Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Small bowel obstruction is a rare complication of Meckel´s diverticulitis. Our purpose is to present a case of a 16-year-old boy with a 3 days history of abdominal pain, recurrent vomiting, and absence of stool discharge. He had appendectomy 3 years ago. Upon laparotomy, we observed small bowel obstruction due to an adhesion between the tip of the inflamed Meckel´s diverticulum and anterior abdominal wall. Although postoperative abdominal adhesions account for the most frequent cause of intestinal obstruction, Meckel´s diverticulitis should also be kept in mind.

Neuroblastoma is a common malignancy in children, but rarely occurs in adults. Neuroblastoma occurring in adolescents, compared to those occurring in children, are more frequently diagnosed in advanced stages and have common sites of metastases. Currently there are no standard treatment guidelines for patients with neuroblastoma in adulthood. If treated with standard protocols as those used for children, their survival is poor, particularly patients with localized disease seem to have a more aggressive course compared to children.

Materials and Methods: One hundred and twenty patients were randomized into three groups to receive intravenous (i.v.) lidocaine 30 mg (Group Lidocaine, n=40), ketamine 0.5 mg/kg (Group Ketamine, n=40) or saline 2 ml (Group Saline, n=40). Thirty seconds after the pretreatment drug, intubation dose of rocuronium (0.6 mg/kg) was injected by i.v. route in 5 seconds. The pain and the withdrawal movements were assessed by a five-point and a four-point scale, respectively. Six hours after anesthesia, patients were asked …

Aims: Acinetobacter species usually affect hospitalized patients and are involved in many infections associated with a high mortality rate. Management of infections caused by these strains is very difficult, as the strains often display multiple drug resistance, including carbapenem resistance. Tigecycline is the most recently developed semi-synthetic broad spectrum glycylcycline antibiotic. The present study was conducted to evaluate the in vitro susceptibility of Acinetobacter baumannii strains isolated from the hospitalized patients to tigecycline. Materials and Methods: Acinetobacter isolates were collected from hospitalized patients with documented nosocomial infections between June 2005 and October 2006. Only one isolate per patient was accepted. …
