As an academic health sciences library in an urban area, the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library is challenged to provide outreach services to a diverse user population and to the surrounding community. To respond to this challenge the librarians provide outreach services and programs to accomplish the following goals: Provide additional education to user groups within the medical center; Provide focused services at the point of need within the curricula and the hospital; Reach out to the surrounding health care community, offering medical information and consumer education; Promote consumer resources to underserved populations.

The purpose of this study was to measure the utility of a variety of predictors that have been used by the Old Dominion University, Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene and other baccalaureate dental hygiene programs in selecting dental hygiene students who are most likely to graduate and be successful in passing the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE). Diabetes is a serious illness affecting millions of people in the United States today. The disease is characterized by the chronic and acute complications of poorly regulated blood glucose concentrations. These complications lead to significant morbidity and mortality in the diabetic population. It is estimated that diabetes accounts for over $1.9 billion in Kentucky healthcare expenditure annually, a figure that continues to grow each year. In order to address this serious public health problem, many states have adopted healthcare initiatives to target increased diabetes awareness and care. Outcome Evaluation Of The School Drug Education Project: Final Report Presented To The School Drug Education And Road Aware Project, Therese Shaw, Margaret Hall, Donna Cross, Hamilton Greg

In 2002, Curtin University's Western Australian Centre for Health Promotion Research provided a report which explored the feasibility of a range of options to evaluate the impact of the School Drug Education Project (SDEP) on students' drug use, perceptions of drug-related harm and attitudes towards drug use. Given the difficulties of achieving a prospective design, this proposal recommended comparing retrospective measures of SDEP participation, level of SDEP training and dose of SDEP implementation with Years 8-12 student drug-related outcome data collected from four large Western Australian studies conducted somewhat concurrently with the School Drug Education Project.

This study examined the effects of two hospital-based clinical programs for student nurses on six dimensions of nursing. The two programs included a I 0-week student nurse summer extern program which was offered to nursing students who had completed a minimum of two clinical semesters of nursing school. The second program, a 12-week student nurse intern program, was offered to student nurses during their last semester of nursing school prior to eligibility for the national registered nurse licensure exam.
