Mobility enables man to interact with his surroundings, and to influence his environment as well as to be influenced by it. The need for the blind individual to relate himself to his environment has been the motivation for the development of orientation and mobility instruction.

While orientation and mobility for the blind is a relatively new discipline, the systemic use of basic techniques, i.e. hand-and-arm techniques and the use of long, light, functional cane as a mode of travel, has been validated empirically with more than a thousand blinded adults. The administration of the antibiotic, Chloramphenicol, to pregnant rats just prior to, and for four days after delivery, diminishes the incidence of the so-called "Wasting Disease" in neonatally thymectomized rats.

A total of 50 rats were divided into the following groups:

1. Thymectomy only---nonmedicated 17 rats
2. Thymectomy only---medicated 12 rats
3. Thymectomy-adrenalectomy---nonmedicated 5 rats
4. Thymectomy-adrenalectomy---medicated 8 rats
5. Controls---nonmedicated 4 rats
6. Controls---medicated 4 rats

DURING February and March of 1965 some particularly heavy body lice infestations were found on fowls in both deep litter and cage units in Western Australia.

In some instances comparatively new laying cage units were involved.

The most seriously affected flocks showed marked unthriftiness and depressed egg production.

1. The nominate subspecies of E. granulosus (Batsch, 1786) is redesignated from the type locality, Europe.

2. Five subspecies of E. granulosus are described from South African carnivores: E. g. granulosus, E. g. africanus, E. g. felidis, E. g. lycaontis and E. g. ortleppi.

This study was conducted to make nursing care guides which can be used by African students of nursing in making individualized nursing care plans. The nursing problems which were met in African rural hospitals served as a basis for the nursing care guides. Data for the study were obtained through questionnaires which were airmail to ten rural hospitals in Africa. Eight of the hospitals responded to the questionnaires.

In four separate experiments mouse embryo cell monolayers infected with polyoma virus and uninfected control mouse embryo cells were maintained in Eagle’s Minimum Essential Medium for periods of time ranging from 0 to 168 hours. The cell layers were removed from the glass by trypsinization. Samples of the cells were counted in a Coulter Counter and the remainder of the cells frozen after centrifugation, in a button. Later, the buttons were thawed and protein, RNA, and DNA analyses were performed on each sample. The micrograms per million cells of protein. Presently accepted concepts of the etiology and pathogenesis of periodontal disease do not adequately explain the following consistent clinical observations: (1) equal local etiologic factors do not result in equal periodontal destruction in all patients; and, (2) equal therapy is not equally successful in all patients. The differences in patient response must be due to differences within the patient. By relating the broadened concept of disease, as described by Engel, to periodontal disease, the reasons for these individual patient differences become apparent. In short, even where protein malnutrition is primarily a result of poor environment, economy, and technology, other, often less obvious, traditional cultural patterns must be taken into account in any development and improvement program. If kwashiorkor is to be eliminated satisfactorily, and if contingent problems are to be kept to a minimum, these other patterns must often also be modified.

THIS parasitic disease appears to be much more common than is usually recognised; for, while severe cases with chronic skin lesions are readily seen, light infestations, especially on coloured pigs often go unnoticed.

When it is realised that even lightly infested pigs require twice as much feed to make one pound gain in live weight as do uninfested pigs, then early recognition and treatment of the disease becomes an obvious economical necessity.
