This study was conducted to compare the effect of GPS attachment, OT Equator attachment and Ball and Socket attachment on crestal bone around implants in implant retained mandibular overdenture cases. Materials and Methods: Following two stage surgical protocol eighteen completely edentulous patients received two implants placed bilaterally in the canine region (36 implants) to retain mandibular overdentures. Background and Objective: This study was conducted to measure the difference between Chrome Cobalt telescopic crowns and Poly ether ether ketone (PEEK) telescopic crowns retaining implant retained partial overdenture.
Materials and Methods: This is a comparitive study that included fourteen lower kennedy class I partially edendulous patients. All patients received posterior implant in the second molar area in each side. The patients were divided into 2 groups, the first group received chrome cobalt telescopic crown and the second group received poly ether ketone telescopic crowns over the implants. Aim: In an attempt to move toward exploration of the antibacterial properties of herbal products, this study evaluated the effect of how the addition of Moringa would affect the physical properties of the commercial Endofil sealer. Materials and Methods: An experimental in vitro study was performed using three experimental sealers. Background: Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease which is considered as a potential precancerous condition. Numerous studies have confirmed that inflammation is a strong risk factor for cancer development. Smoking is associated with potentially malignant disorders of the oral and oropharyngeal mucosa. The adverse consequences of smoking in various pathologies are mediated by its effects on the immune-inflammatory system. Little is known about the influence of cigarette smoke content on the course of OLP and inflammatory response. The association of prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2) and defensin beta 1 (DEFB1) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) with chronic periodontitis (CP) have been widely studied amongst different ethnic groups such as the Chinese and European population. Thus far, no study has been done on the Malay ethnic group. Hence, this study assessed the allele and genotype frequencies of PTGS2 and DEFB1 variants in subjects with CP and periodontally healthy individuals in Malaysian Malays. Samples of 78 Malay CP subjects and 62 periodontally healthy controls were obtained from Malaysian Periodontal Database and Biobanking system (MPDBS) for this study. DNA samples were genotyped …

Objectives: To assess the prevalence, severity and extent of impacts of self-perceived malocclusion on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) related to dental aesthetics among young Malaysian adults, to compare between those with and without self-perceived malocclusion and to investigate the influence of demographics on the outcome. Methods: Multi-stage random sampling method was used to recruit 589 subjects from tertiary institutions in Malaysia. Despite advances in diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, mortality and morbidity rates have not improved in the last decade. Hence, alternative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches are urgently needed. Cancer testes antigens (CTA) are proteins that are expressed in various malignant tumours but its expression in normal tissue is restricted to testes and occasionally placental trophoblast. The degenerative temporomandibular joint diseases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatic arthritis, TMJ ankylosis, condylar resorption is successfully treated by total joint replacement. The aim of this study was to examine the function of Temporomandibular joint after total joint replacement. 15 patients with unilateral or bilateral TMJ total joint replacements and 15 healthy controls were evaluated via SICAT JMT+ device. This non-invasive system measures 3D position and rotation in all degrees of freedom and allows undisturbed functional mandibular movements to provide a quantitative evaluation. Purpose: The "#MeToo" movement has increased awareness of sexual harassment in the workplace and its detrimental effects on the work environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of sexual harassment in a convenience sample of dental hygienists in the state of Virginia (VA).
Methods: A cross-sectional research design was used to determine the experiences of VA dental hygienists with sexual harassment in the workplace occurring over the previous twenty-four months. Teledentistry is an innovative technology that can be used to improve access to care and oral health outcomes. Dental students’ intention to use teledentistry after completing dental school has not been investigated.
Purpose
The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) was used to predict intentions to use teledentistry among 4th-year U.S. dental students. Methods A cross-sectional approach was performed for a 7-week period in Spring 2019. All U.S. dental schools (N = 66) were invited to participate and 16 schools agreed to participate. Purpose: Preventive oral health behaviors are essential for children during early stages of development. The purpose of this study was to pilot an innovative, collaborative service-learning (ICSL) experience for dental hygiene (DH) and primary care nurse practitioner (NP) students to address pediatric oral health.
Methods: A convenience sample of DH and NP students (n=12) participated in the development, planning and delivery of an ICSL activity focusing on pediatric oral health to 44 pre-school aged children. Purpose: Dental hygienists have the potential for filling critical roles in multidisciplinary victim identification teams. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate the accuracy of dental hygiene students utilizing dental charting, bitewings, and skull dentitions for the purpose of making identification matches.
Methods: Thirty senior dental hygiene students (n=30) independently viewed an asynchronous online multimedia-based presentation on the procedures used for collecting and recording forensic dental evidence. Following the presentation participants attempted to chart and match three bitewing radiograph sets to three human skull dentitions by correlating matches/exclusions. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine strength of muscles involved with instrumentation (scaling) by dental hygienists and the additive effects of cellular (mobile) phone usage, as indicated by measurements of muscular force generation.
Methods: A convenience sample of licensed dental hygienists currently in clinical practice (n=16) and an equal number of individuals not currently using devices/tools repetitively for work (n=16), agreed to participate in this pilot study. All participants completed a modified cell phone usage questionnaire to determine their use pattern and frequency. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of vitamin C containing sodium ascorbate prepared solution on dentin bond strength of resin composite to non-vital bleached tooth and on fracture resistance of restored non-vital bleached tooth. Sixty (30 pairs, left and right) extracted sound human maxillary premolar teeth were collected from 30 patients. All teeth were endodontically treated and each pair was randomized assigned into microtensile bond strength and fracture resistance tests.
