A Correlation Of Subjective Ranking Of Facial Esthetics And The Golden Section Analysis, Timothy Robin York

The objective of this study was to determine if faces which fit the golden sections as proposed by Ricketts were considered more esthetic to the layman than faces which did not fit the golden sections as well.

Frontal facial photographs of 92 individuals from the normal occlusion sample of Andrews were measured for facial proportions according to Ricketts application of the golden section. Seven facial proportions were computed from the photographs. Ten photographs were selected, five of males and five of females, representing a range of mean percent deviation from the golden section proportion (1.618). Randomly arranged sets of these …

The sickle erythrocyte (RBC) is a pathologic RBC that contains multiple membrane abnormalities. Some of these abnormalities have been implicated in the pathophysiology of vasoocclusive crises characteristic of sickle cell disease; others have yet to be defined in terms of their clinical significance. Recent information has shown that sickle RBC adhere abnormally to cultured endothelial cells yet little is known about the ways in which sickle cells interact with model membranes of defined size and lipid composition. We investigated this phenomenon by interacting sickle RBC with artificial lipid vesicles (liposomes) containing acidic phospholipids. Our results demonstrate that sickle disease (hemoglobin …

We have examined the early events in Ca2+-induced fusion of large (0.2 μm diameter) unilamellar cardiolipin/phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine/phosphatidylethanolamine vesicles by quick-freezing freeze-fracture electron microscopy, eliminating the necessity of using glycerol as a cryoprotectant. Freeze-fracture replicas of vesicle suspensions frozen after 1-2 s of stimulation revealed that the majority of vesicles had already undergone membrane fusion, as evidenced by dumbbell-shaped structures and large vesicles. In the absence of glycerol, lipidic particles or the hexagonal HII phase, which have been proposed to be intermediate structures in membrane fusion, were not observed at the sites of fusion. A descriptive research approach and a self-designed questionnaire were used to obtain information about the effective clinical teacher as perceived by first and second year dental hygiene students. The Effective Teaching Behaviors Questionnaire was reviewed critically by several Old Dominion University dental hygiene faculty who's comments were used for revision. Once revisions were made, a pilot study was conducted on a sample of Old Dominion University dental hygiene students to determine the reliability and validity of the instrument.

The purpose of this survey was to assess periodontists' attitudes toward pit and fissure sealants as an oral health service. A self-designed, 43-item questionnaire and a letter of transmittal were mailed to a random sample of periodontists belonging to the American Academy of Periodontics (N=S00). Data were obtained from 288 returned questionnaires (58 percent).

Data analysis suggested that periodontists' attitudes have changed over the past nine years in that: (1) more periodontists are assigning a high value of pit and fissure sealants in preventing dental caries, (2) more periodontists are using pit and fissure sealants to prevent dental caries, and …

ปัจจุบันมีการนำเอา "ไบออปซี่" (biopsy) มาใช้กันอย่างกว้างขวาง ในการวินิจฉัยโรค การวินิจฉัยได้อย่างถูกต้อง นอกจากจะขึ้นอยู่กับความรู้ความ สามารถของแพทย์ผู้ทำไบออปซี่และพยาธิแพทย์แล้ว ยังต้องอาศัยวิธีการจัดการกับ ชิ้นเนื้อตัวอย่างให้เหมาะสมด้วย จากประสบการณ์การทํางานในภาควิชาทันตพยาธิ วิทยา คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย พบว่ามีข้อบกพร่องบาง ประการ เช่น ตัดชิ้นเนื้อตัวอย่างเล็กเกินไป ใส่น้ำยารักษาสภาพไม่ถูกต้อง ให้ ประวัติผู้ป่วยไม่ละเอียดพอ เป็นต้น สิ่งเหล่านี้เป็นอุปสรรคต่อการวินิจฉัยโรคของพยาธิแพทย์ บทความนี้มุ่งหวังที่จะทบทวน อธิบาย วิธีการรวมทั้งเหตุผลและข้อเสนอแนะในการทำไบออปซี่

ความคิดรวบยอดเกี่ยวกับตนเอง ของบุคคลมีมาตั้งแต่เกิดและมีการพัฒนามาเป็นลำดับสิ่งที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการพัฒนาความคิดรวบยอดเกี่ยวกับตนเอง ได้แก่ประสบการณ์ในช่วงแรกของชีวิต และครอบครัว วัฒนธรรม ร่างกาย และสติปัญญา นอกจากนี้ โรงเรียน บทบาทของครู และบรรยากาศในชั้นเรียน จะมีส่วนสำคัญในการพัฒนาความคิดรวบยอดเกี่ยวกับตนเอง การเรียนรู้ความคิดรวบยอด ของบุคคลจะเกิดประโยชน์ในการเข้าใจบุคคลและพฤติกรรมของบุคคลมากขึ้น

ในการศึกษาสถิติเกี่ยวกับขนาด และรูปร่างของฟันหน้าบนของชายหญิง อายุตั้งแต่ 20-42 ปี จำนวน 56 คน ทำให้ทราบว่าฟันหน้า central incisor ขนาดใหญ่ที่สุด ความยาวในแนว inciso cervical 12.2 ม.ม. ความกว้างที่สุด ในแนว mesio-distal 9.57 ม.ม. ฟัน lateral incisor ยาวที่สุด 11.4 ม.ม. กว้างที่สุด 6.4 ม.ม. พื้น cuspid ยาวที่สุด 12.3 ม.ม. กว้างที่สุด 8.5 ม.ม. และฟันซีน (cuspid) มีความแตกต่างกันมากในแต่ละคน จากการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบกับผลงานวิจัยของ Arne M. Bjorndal, D.D.S., M.S., William G. Henderson, M.P.H., Ph.D., Arthur Eddy Skidmore, D.D.S., M.S., และ Frank H. Kellner, D.D.S. (BKHS) พบว่าฟันของคนไทยและคน อเมริกันมีความกว้างในแนว mesio-distal ใกล้เคียงกันแต่ความยาวในแนว inciso cervical ในคนไทยสั้นกว่าของคนอเมริกัน จึงทําให้ฟันหน้าของคนไทย โดยเฉลี่ยดูจะป้อมกว่าของชาวอเมริกัน ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับรูปร่างใบหน้าของกะโหลก ในคนไทยส่วน Central incisor มักจะเป็นรูป Tapering

ได้ทำการสัมภาษณ์หัวหน้าครัวเรือนทุกครัวเรือนในหมู่บ้านหินดาษ ตำบลดงน้อย อำเภอราชสาสน์ จังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา จำนวน 54 คน เป็นชาย 21 คน (คิดเป็นร้อยละ 38.9) และหญิง 33 คน (คิดเป็นร้อยละ 61.1) ในส่วนที่เกี่ยว กับประวัติส่วนตัว การประเมินทันตสุขภาพของตนเอง ปัญหาทันตสุขภาพ การ ใช้บริการทางทันตกรรม บริการทันตกรรมของภาครัฐ และเรื่องเกี่ยวกับฟันปลอม ซึ่งให้ผลของการศึกษาดังนี้ ประชาชนคิดว่าตนเองมีปัญหาโรคฟัน และเชื่อว่า เกิดมาจากพื้นเป็นรู (คิดเป็นร้อยละ 74) สภาพของเหงือก ประชาชนเชื่อว่า อยู่ในสภาพแข็งแรงดี (คิดเป็นร้อยละ 81) ร้อยละ 65 ของผู้ตอบไม่ต้องการการ ใส่ฟันปลอมแทนฟันแท้ที่ถูกถอนไป เมื่อมีปัญหาโรคในช่องปาก เขานิยมไปรับบริ การการถอนฟันจากหน่วยแพทย์เคลื่อนที่ แต่สําหรับพวกที่มีปัญหาแล้วไม่ไปรับบริ การเพราะเชื่อว่าโรคฟันเกิดขึ้นเองและหายเอง หรือเพียงแต่ซื้อยาแก้ปวดมากินก็พอ ประชาชนมีความต้องการ (Demand) คำแนะนำและการบริการทางการป้องกัน โรคเป็นอันดับหนึ่ง การตรวจฟันและการถอนฟันเป็นอันดับรองลงไปตามลำดับ

Surgical treatment of deep periodontal pockets associated with intraosseous defects has traditionally been performed either with or without resection of the osseous defect. A non-resective approach may provide more gain of attachment while a resective approach may give better pocket reduction. The increased pocket reduction following osseous resection is probably accomplished at the expense of some attachment loss in areas involved by the surgical procedure. Previous studies have compared periodontal surgery with and without osseous resection (i.e. Rosling et al. 1976, Knowles et al. 1979 and Smith et al. 1980). The purpose of this study was to survey Old Dominion University dental hygiene master's degree graduates and their employers to assess the overall quality of the graduates' education. Individuals who graduated between May 1976 and December 1981 (N =29) were sent a self-designed questionnaire to obtain evaluative data about the ODU dental hygiene master's degree program. The graduates were asked to identify strengths and weaknesses of the ODU master's degree program, the role competencies required for their current position, and the degree to which they were prepared for their current job by the master's degree program. A Comparison Of Two Rapid Palatal Expansion Appliances And Their Effect On Palatal Cross-Sectional Area, William D. Scott

Two rapid palatal expansion appliances, acrylic-free and acrylic-reinforced, were compared for their effect on the cross-sectional area of the palate. Two groups, twenty-five patients in each, were selected so that they would match as closely as possible with regards to age and sex distribution. The pre-treatment and post-treatment maxillary models were duplicated, and this duplicate model was then trimmed in a specific manner to allow the cross-sectional area between the first permanent molars to be compared. The results indicate that there is no difference, at the five percent level of significance, between these two appliances. It is concluded that the …
