Two trials were initiated on each of five Research Stations in collaboration with G.A. Pearce and J.E. Holmes. The Effect of Septoria nodorum on Yield of 125 Wheat Cultivars. The aim of this experiment was as described for that of 1976. There were some modifications to the treatments which were as follows: (a) Most of the cultivars were 'new' and (b) Three levels of Septoria attack were set up:- 1. Low: cover sprayed throughout the season with the fungicide Difolatan. 2. Moderate: inoculated with Septoria three times, followed at heading out by cover spraying with Difolatan. 3. Rates of Nitrogen on Wheat, Oats and Barley - Soil Test. In this, the third year of this programme, 44 sites were selected and soil sampled during February - March. Thirty seven of these trials consisted of four replications on wheat only and the other seven consisted of three replications on wheat, oats and barley. All reps were soil sampled separately. In 1975/76 two varieties of sunflower, Hysun 10 and Hysun 20, as well as Safflower (Gila) were grown in a large alternative crop demonstration. Results were sufficiently good to warrant more and closer examination. This led to the present variety trial using varieties suggested by Mr. M. Poole. The aim was to evaluate six sunflower varieties and one safflower. The work was carried out in the light of reduced profitability of peas, beans and some fruit crops. A series of 9 trials to compare the crossbred subterranean clovers Nungarin, 239.2 and 584.1B. with Northam and Geraldton was sown in representative, dry wheatbelt localities in 1976. The trials were sown in randomised blocks with four replications on sites which carried little or no clover. Plot size was 4.22 metres by 40 metres. Superphosphate was applied at rates related to past applications and soil type, but was usually about 200 kg a hectare. Copper, zinc and molybdenum were applied where necessary. Seed …
