Dominance Relationships Of Cycloheximide-Resistant Mutants Of Schizophyllum Commune Fr., Marjorie Meier Eerdmans, Sally A. Amundson, Todd A. Reinhart, Keith K. Klein

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

We have isolated several mutants of Schizophyllum commune Fr. able to grow on media containing cycloheximide in concentrations up to 30 mg/L. Genetic analyses of the resistant phenotypes show them to be due to the action of a single gene located on the first linkage group between the A-mating type factor and a gene for an adenine requirement (ade-ll). We have analyzed the growth and development of dikaryons made homoallelic for either the resistant or sensitive alleles as well as the heteroallelic dikaryon. These dikaryons showed different abilities to fruit when placed on media containing various concentrations of cycloheximide. Homoallelic …

Survey Of The Endogonaceae In Minnesota With Synoptic Keys To Genera And Species, F. L. Pfleger, Elwin L. Stewart Jan 1989

Survey Of The Endogonaceae In Minnesota With Synoptic Keys To Genera And Species, F. L. Pfleger, Elwin L. Stewart

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

Sixteen species in the Endogonaceae (Zygomycotina) were identified from 22 different plant species from a native prairie, an intensively cultivated vegetable field, a reclaimed iron ore tailings basin, an undisturbed site adjacent to the iron ore tailings basin, and from a Pinus resinosa plantation. Seven species of Endogonaceae identified in this study are new records for Minnesota. Synoptic keys to genera and species are presented.

Lake Itasca State Park Myxomycetes: An Annotated Checklist, M. E. Palm, E. L. Stewart, E. F. Haskins Jan 1979

Lake Itasca State Park Myxomycetes: An Annotated Checklist, M. E. Palm, E. L. Stewart, E. F. Haskins

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

A lack of published information regarding Minnesota Myxomycetes prompted attempts to document species from Lake Itasca State Park in Clearwater county, in the northwest part of the state. Seventy-five species are herein recorded from 341 collections made during the years 1959, 1971,and 1975-78.

Detecting Oak Wilt By False Color Infrared Aerial Photography, R. P. Latham, D. W. French, Merle P. Meyer Jan 1969

Detecting Oak Wilt By False Color Infrared Aerial Photography, R. P. Latham, D. W. French, Merle P. Meyer

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

An aerial survey using false-color infrared film at scales of l :9,600 and l : 12,000 located 93.7% of the oak wilt infection centers ii:1 the 1,500-acre study area. The ground survey of the same area also located 93.7% of the infection centers but half of those found by this method were difficult to relocate because they were not correctly mapped. Whereas aerial survey usually missed only trees of small diameter, the ground survey missed trees as large as eight inches in diameter.

Germinability Factors Of Field-Grown Sorghum Seed, D. B. Sauer, C. M. Christensen Jan 1969

Germinability Factors Of Field-Grown Sorghum Seed, D. B. Sauer, C. M. Christensen

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

Germination of sorghum seed did not appear to be affected by spraying the plants with Maneb or with a chemical defoliant before harvest. Mechanical threshing greatly reduced germination of most but not all lots; this injury is thought to be related to the maturity and/ or moisture content of the seed when threshed, although other varietal differences may be important. At any given time there were large differences in moisture content between seeds of different hybrids, different plants of any one hybrid, and between different parts of the same panicle.
