Turkish Truffles I: 18 New Records For Turkey, Azi̇z Türkoğlu, Michael Angelo Castellano, James Martin Trappe, Mehri̇can Yaratanakul Güngör

We report the first records of 18 truffle species in Turkey. Three belong to the Ascomycota: Elaphomyces leucocarpus, E. muricatus, and Genea sphaerica; and 15 to the Basidiomycota: Alpova corsicus, Gautieria otthii, G. retirugosa, G. trabutii, Hymenogaster citrinus, H. hessei, H. luteus, H. lycoperdineus, Hysterangium clathroides, H. epiroticum, H. fragile, H. nephriticum, Leucogaster tozzianus, Octaviania asterosperma, and Protoglossum aromaticum. We also report new localities within Turkey for Picoa juniperi, P. lefebvrei, Geopora cooperi, Terfezia arenaria, T. claveryi, Tuber aestivum, and T. nitidum in the Ascomycota; and Leucogaster nudus, Hymenogaster thwaitesii, H. vulgaris, and Melanogaster broomeanus in the Basidiomycota.

Micromorphological Characters On Nutlet And Leaf Indumentum Of Teucrium Sect. Teucrium (Lamiaceae) In Turkey, Gülay Ecevi̇t Genç, Taner Özcan, Tuncay Di̇rmenci̇

Leaf indumentum and nutlet surface micromorphology of 13 taxa belonging to the Teucrium sect. Teucrium was studied with a scanning electron microscope. We observed 5 trichome types on the nutlets and 8 trichome types on the leaves. Branched trichomes were not found on the nutlets. Nutlet shapes of the taxa were elliptic, obovate, oblong, or rotund, and their surfaces were generally alveolate with different ornamentations. Some nutlets had longitudinal ridges. The indumentum varied among unrelated species and showed some significant similarities within related species. In Flora of Turkey sect. The taxa of the genus Euphorbia L. Have seeds that mature in schizocarp fruits, called cocci, with three or more cells, each of which explosively splits open into separate parts at maturity. The Euphorbia seeds have taxonomically useful characters. We studied 13 taxa of the genus Euphorbia distributed in Turkey-in-Europe, with a focus on the seed characters; for morphological observations we used a stereomicroscope, and for surface microstructure we used a scanning electron microscope (SEM). New Records For Turkey And Contributions To The Macrofungal Diversity Of Isparta Province, Hali̇l Güngör, Mehmet Hali̇l Solak, Hakan Alli, Mustafa Işiloğlu, Erbi̇l Kalmiş

This study was conducted on specimens of macrofungi collected from Isparta Province between 2005 and 2008; in addition, Trichophaea woolhopeia (Cooke and W. Phillips) Boud. İs given as a new record from Muğla Province. After fieldwork and laboratory studies, 129 taxa belonging to 36 families and 2 divisions were identified from Isparta Province. Five of them, Cortinarius olidus J.E. Lange, Cystoderma jasonis (Cooke and Massee) Harmaja, Echinoderma echinaceum (J.E. Lange) Bon, Hebeloma gigaspermum Gröger and Zschiesch., and Psathyrella canoceps (Kauffman) A.H. Sm., are new records for Turkey.

Basidiomes of Alnicola subconspersa (Kühner ex P.D. Orton) Bon, Amanita pachyvolvata (Bon) Krieglst., Cortinarius azureus Fr., Cortinarius vernus H. Lindstr. And Melot, Melanogaster variegatus (Vittad.) Tul. And C. Tul., Paxillus ammoniavirescens Contu and Dessì, and Paxillus cuprinus P. Jargeat, H. Gryta, J.P. Chaumeton and A. Vizzini were reported for the first time for the Turkish mycota from Trabzon. In this research, the morphological, anatomical, palynological, and cytological characteristics of the section Alopecuroidei DC. species belonging to genus Astragalus L. in Turkey were studied. As a result of this study, the members of the Alopecuroidei section represented by 22 taxa were evaluated under 24 taxa. While 3 taxa were reduced to synonyms, 4 new taxa have been added to the literature. Those are Astragalus aytatchii Akan & Civelek, A. ovabaghensis Akan & Aytaç, A. bahcesarayensis Akan, Fırat & Ekici, and A. ekicii H.Duman & Akan. In this study, the bryophyte flora of Erciyes Mountain was investigated. In total, 244 taxa were found in this area. Of these, 9 families, 9 genera, and 11 taxa belong to liverworts and 25 families, 72 genera, and 233 taxa belong to mosses. According to Henderson's grid-square system, 138 bryophyte taxa for the B8 square are new records. Among them, Leiocolea heterocolpos (Thed. ex Hartm.) H.Buch., Scapania obscura (Arn. & Jens.) Schiffn., Schistidium pulchrum H.H.Blom., Tortula lingulata Lindb., Bryum knowltonii Barnes, and Brachythecium capillaceum (F.Weber & D.Mohr) Giacom are new records for the bryophyte flora of Turkey. Macromycetes Determined In Yomra (Trabzon) District, Ilgaz Akata, Yasi̇n Uzun, Abdullah Kaya

This study was carried out on macrofungi samples collected from Yomra district during 2007-2012, and 236 taxa belonging to 58 families were identified. Crocicreas cyathoideum (Bull.) S.E.Carp., Phaeohelotium fagineum (Pers.) Hengstm., and Dacrymyces chrysospermus Berk. & M.A.Curtis are recorded for the first time from Turkey. Calyptella capula (Holmsk.) Quél., Campanella caesia Romagn., and Guepiniopsis buccina (Pers.) L.L.Kenn. are the first members of the genera Calyptella Quél., Campanella Henn., and Guepiniopsis Pat. respectively, in Turkey.

This study aimed to investigate molecular taxonomic diversity of unicellular chlorophyte strains in the northern Anatolian freshwater habitats of Turkey. Five strains were isolated from various habitats i.e. salty lagoons, shallow lakes, or slow-flowing creeks. The habitats chosen were Cernek lagoon (Kızılırmak Delta, Samsun), Kara lake (Çubuk, Ankara), Sarıkum lagoon (Sinop), and Sırakaraağaçlar creek (Sinop). Gladiolus Osmaniyensis (Iridaceae), A New Species From South Anatolia, Turkey, Mehmet Sağiroğlu, Gençay Akgül

A new species, Gladiolus osmaniyensis Sağıroğlu (Iridaceae), is described and illustrated from South Anatolia, Turkey. G. osmaniyensis is morphologically close to G. attilae and G. atroviolaceus. The ecology and phenology of the new species as well as its etymology, conservation status, and diagnostic morphological features are discussed. In addition, the seed surfaces of the G. osmaniyensis, G. attilae, and G. atroviolaceus are examined by SEM. The geographical distribution of the new species and the morphologically related species are mapped as well.

To assess the genetic diversity and relationships among commercial Gossypium species released in Turkey between 1964 and 2014, 96 cotton varieties were analyzed using morphological and molecular markers. Morphological analysis was performed based on 4 fiber quality traits including fiber length, strength, fineness, and uniformity, and the mean values of each trait for each genotype were calculated using 2-year data. The results showed that most of the genotypes have long fiber length, very high fiber strength, coarse (45 genotypes) or average (50 genotypes) fiber fineness, and high uniformity. Allium Efeae (Amaryllidaceae), A New Species From Northwest Anatolia, Turkey, İlker Genç, Fatma Neri̇man Özhatay

Allium efeae Özhatay & İ.Genç is described as a new species from northwest Anatolia. The distribution area of this species is restricted to Kıbrıscık (Bolu) and Beypazarı (Ankara). It resembles Allium lycaonicum Siehe, but differs in tepal shape and color, leaf length, and filament shape. A table comparing the diagnostic morphological characters of the new species and A. lycaonicum is provided. The diagnostic morphological characters, distribution, conservation status, and color photographs of the new species as well as its chromosome number (2n = 24) are presented.

In this study, an attempt has been made to determine macrofungal specimens collected from Kilis in 2006 and 2007. After field and laboratory studies, 47 taxa belonging to 17 families and 2 divisions were identified: 4 taxa belong to Ascomycota and 43 to Basidiomycota. Three of them, Inocybe taxocystis (J.Favre & E.Horak) Senn-Irlet, Russula laccata Huijsman, and Russula medullata Romagn., are new records for Turkey.

In this study, an attempt has been made to establish macrofungal specimens collected from Antalya between 2005 and 2009. After field and laboratory studies, 136 taxa belonging to 40 families and 2 divisions were identified. Twenty taxa belong to Ascomycota and 116 to Basidiomycota. Three of them, Cortinarius subferrugineus (Batsch) Fr., Entoloma vernum Lundell, and Inocybe piceae Stangl & Schwöbel, are new records for Turkey.

In this study, Mollisia ventosa P.Karst., Hymenoscyphus herbarum (Pers.) Dennis, H. immutabilis (Fuckel) Dennis, H. robustior (P.Karst.) Dennis, Ciboria amentacea (Balb.) Fuckel, and Peziza fimeti (Fuckel) E.C.Hansen have been recorded in Turkey for the first time. Comments on their morphological and anatomical features, geographical position, locality, collection date, and distribution and short descriptions and photographs related to macro- and micromorphologies of the taxa are provided.

Palynological characteristics of 30 Salvia taxa in sections Hymenosphace and Aethiopis from Turkey were investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy. S. aethiopis (sect. Aethiopis) has the smallest pollen while S. blepharochlaena (sect. Hymenosphace) has the largest pollen. The basic shape of the pollen grains in most taxa is suboblate, oblate-spheroidal, or prolate-spheroidal to spheroidal; however, subprolate pollen grains are occasionally are found in S. cassia of sect. Aethiopis. Three pyronemataceous macrofungi genera, Acervus Kanouse, Neottiella (Cooke) Sacc., and Rhodoscypha Dissing & Sivertsen, are recorded for the first time from Turkey, based on the collection of Acervus epispartius (Berk. & Broome) Pfister, Neottiella rutilans (Fr.) Dennis, and Rhodoscypha ovilla (Peck) Dissing & Sivertsen. Short descriptions of the taxa are provided together with photographs related to macro- and micromorphologies.

A new species, Asperula anatolica M.Ozturk (Rubiaceae), is described from south-east Turkey. A. anatolica grows on limestone bedrock, in Uludere District (C9 Şırnak Province). It is an endemic confined to south-east Anatolia, and it is related to A. comosa Schönb.-Tem in the section Cruciana. Asperula anatolica is distinct from a closely allied species, A. comosa, by its inflorescence, indumentum, corolla lobes and shape, bracts, bracteoles, internodes, seed coat surface, and pollen grains. Airborne pollen distribution in Denizli Province was measured volumetrically during 2 consecutive years, 2005 and 2006, on a weekly basis. A total of 11,981 pollen grains/m^3 belonging to 42 taxa were determined. In 2005 the total was 5368 pollen grains/m^3 and in 2006 it was 6613 pollen grains/m^3. Among the taxa recorded, 26 belonged to arboreal and 16 to nonarboreal taxa. At the end of the 2 years total pollen counts comprised 79.68% arboreal, 19.48% nonarboreal, and 0.84% unidentified taxa. The number of pollen grains/m^3 among arboreal plants was as follows: Pinaceae (24.19%), Cupressaceae/Taxodiaceae (15.99%), Olea europaea (11.35%), Quercus spp. …

Forty-four Silene L. taxa belonging to the sections Siphonomorpha Otth, Lasiostemones Boiss., Sclerocalycinae Boiss., Chloranthae Rohrb., Tataricae Chowdhuri, and Otites (Adams.) Otth were studied. The Silene specimens used in the study were collected from different localities between 2005 and 2007. Their conservation status, phytogeographical regions, and distribution in Turkey were determined. Detailed drawings of the general view and flower from each species were added to the study. Grimmia anomala Schimp., Pohlia filum (Schimp.) Mårtensson, and Hookeria acutifolia Hook. & Grev. are noteworthy moss species reported here for the first time in South-West Asia from specimens collected in north-eastern and north-western Turkey. The diagnostic characters, habitat preferences, illustrations, and updated ranges of the treated species are given together with notes comparing them with those of related taxa.

The succession of epiphytic bryophytes was investigated in Cedrus libani A.Rich. forest on the Meydan Plateau (Aladağ). A total of 19 taxa (16 mosses, 3 liverworts) were recorded in 90 sampling relevés, 4 dm^2 each. Index of ecological significance (IES) was used to evaluate the ecological importance of the taxa in epiphytic habitats on tree trunks. Additionally, the epiphytic bryophyte succession of the cedar forest was analysed using multivariate classification techniques (TWINSPAN and DECORANA). Minuartia hamzaoglui M.Koç & Aksoy (Caryophyllaceae) is described as a new species of sect. Minuartia in Turkey. The specimens were collected from Mount Erciyes (Kayseri). The new species is related to Minuartia erythrosepala (Boiss.) Hand.-Mazz. var. erythrosepala. M. hamzaoglui is an endemic species which has a distribution in Central Anatolia. The differences between the species are discussed. Description, distribution, illustration, and conservation status of the new species are given. Seed structures were examined by scanning electron microscopy.

The pollen size and morphology of 20 Onobrychis Adans. taxa from Turkey were studied using both light and scanning electron microscopy. Of the taxa studied, Onobrychis fallax Freyn & Sint. and Onobrychis elata Boiss. & Balansa showed the smallest size of pollen grains, while the largest were found in Onobrychis aequidentata (Sibth. & Sm.) d'Urv. and Onobrychis viciifolia Scop. Astragalus Yukselii (Leguminosae), A New Species From Turkey, Seher Karaman Erkul, Zeki̇ Aytaç

Astragalus yukselii Karaman & Aytaç (Leguminosae) is described as a new species and illustrated. The species is distributed near the town of Hadim in Konya Province (South Anatolia). Diagnostic morphological characters useful in discriminating the new species from its close relatives, A. isauricus Hub.-Mor. & V.A.Matthews and A. karjaginii (Boriss.) Boriss., are explained. Both species clearly belong to Astragalus L. sect. Macrophyllium Boiss., which is characterised by large leaves and flowers. We also present some notes on the ecology, biogeography, and conservation status of the new species.

Two new records of Orobanche L. have been added to the 37 species of this genus previously reported from Turkey. Orobanche owerini (Beck) Beck is reported as a new record to flora of Turkey for the first time, and the existence of O. reticulata Wall. that was mentioned as a doubtful record for Turkey has been confirmed. Macro- and micromorphology of the taxa are discussed, geographical distributions in Turkey are mapped, and details of their habitat, ecology, and taxonomic remarks of the studied taxa are provided.
