A New Species Of Cyathus (Agaricaceae) From India, Kanad Das, Manoj Emanuel Hembrom, Arvind Parihar, Rui Lin Zhao

The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden is a well-known botanical garden. Cyathus thindii, a new species of bird's nest fungus, was collected from this garden, and is described and illustrated in the present paper. It is distinct with its sessile basidiomata growing on a white mycelial pad, plicate exterior (partly) and interior wall of the peridium, comparatively large peridioles without tunica, and medium sized spores. Its relation with allied taxa is discussed and a provisional key to the Indian species of Cyathus is given in the present paper.

The blueberry tribe Vaccinieae (Ericaceae) is particularly diverse in South America and underwent extensive radiation in Colombia where many endemics occur. Recent fi eldwork in Colombia has resulted in valuable additions to the phylogeny and as well in the discovery of morphologically noteworthy new species that need to be phylogenetically placed before being named. Th is is particularly important, as the monophyly of many of the studied genera have not been confi rmed. Lyophyllum Turcicum (Agaricomycetes: Lyophyllaceae), A New Species From Turkey, Ertuğrul Sesli̇, Alfredo Vizzini, Marco Contu

A new species, Lyophyllum turcicum, from the Kümbet plateau of the Dereli district in Giresun Province, Turkey, is described, taxonomically delimited, and illustrated based on morphological and molecular data. The new species belongs to a small group of species in the Lyophyllum sect. Difformia as traditionally circumscribed. Lyophyllum turcicum is easily distinguished mainly by the light tinges of the basidiomes, filiform-fusiform to cylindro-flexuose marginal cells, and elongate, ellipsoid spores.

Bondarzewia zonata, collected from North Sikkim, is proposed here as new to science. It is characterized by basidiomata with strong zonate pilei, thin context turning persistent dark red with guaiacol, comparatively small spores with narrow ornamented ridges, and an absence of cystidioles. A detailed description coupled with macro- and micromorphological illustrations of this species is provided. Its relation to the allied species is discussed and a provisional key to the species of Bondarzewia is given.

Prosthechea Tinukiana Sp. Nov. (Orchidaceae: Laeliinae): An Update Of The Prosthechea Prismatocarpa Complex, Diego Bogarin, Adam P. Karremans

We describe and illustrate a new species of Prosthechea from Costa Rica. The species is similar to Prosthechea ionocentra, but it is easily distinguishable by its inflorescence originating from the penultimate mature pseudobulb; its purple spotted sepals and petals; the cordate, acute labellum; the disc with two longer, narrower keels; the stigmatic arms of the column, which are convergent and rounded; and the narrower stigma. Differences from other related species are given and discussed. Data on distribution, habitat and ecology, etymology, and phenology are provided. An updated key to the species of the Prosthechea prismatocarpa complex is presented.

Artemisia bashkalensis Kurşat & Civelek sp. nov. from Hakkari Province in East Anatolia, Turkey, has been described. The differences between Artemisia bashkalensis and the related species Artemisia stenocephala Krash. ex Poljak. and Artemisia khorassanica Podl. are reported. The diagnosis, description, distribution map, and taxonomic comments on the new species are provided.

A New Species Of Sisymbrium (Brassicaceae) From Turkey: Morphological And Molecular Evidence, Bi̇rol Mutlu, Şükrü Karakuş

Sisymbrium malatyanum Mutlu & Karakuş is identified as a new species from Malatya Province, East Anatolia, Turkey. Morphological and molecular (entire ITS region) studies proved that this species especially resembles Sisymbrium brassiciforme, S. heteromallum, S. altissimum, S. damascenum, and S. austriacum subsp. contortum. New species and related taxa are discussed in terms of morphological and molecular differences. Epicuticular wax on the fruit surface of the new species was determined. SEM images (hairs on leaf, stem, fruit, stylus, and epicuticular wax crystalloids) and field photographs (habitat, flowering and fruiting shape of habitus, and fruit) are presented.

This paper describes a new species of Clavicipitaceae fungi belonging to the genus Metacordyceps G.H. Sung, J.M. Sung, Hywel-Jones and Spatafora, defined as Metacordyceps dhauladharensis sp. Nov., from India. The diagnostic features of this new species are stipitate stromata of brownish color and an elongated fertile head on a Hymenopteran host. The perithecium size of this species was measured as 152-257 × 65-72 µm, and the asci were measured as 30-48 µm in length and 2.5 µm in breadth. Leaf remains of 4 lauraceous taxa collected from the Siwalik sediments (Middle Miocene to Pliocene) of Arunachal Pradesh of eastern Himalaya are described in the present communication. One fossil leaf, Cinnamomum palaeobejolghota sp. nov., was recovered from the lower part of the Siwalik succession (Dafla Formation; Middle to Upper Miocene), while Persea mioparviflora sp. nov., Persea preglaucescens sp. nov., and Lindera neobifaria sp. nov. were collected from the middle part of the Siwalik succession (Subansiri Formation; Pliocene) of Arunachal sub-Himalaya. A new species, Gladiolus osmaniyensis Sağıroğlu (Iridaceae), is described and illustrated from South Anatolia, Turkey. G. osmaniyensis is morphologically close to G. attilae and G. atroviolaceus. The ecology and phenology of the new species as well as its etymology, conservation status, and diagnostic morphological features are discussed. In addition, the seed surfaces of the G. osmaniyensis, G. attilae, and G. atroviolaceus are examined by SEM. The geographical distribution of the new species and the morphologically related species are mapped as well.

Onobrychis alamutensis Amirah., Kaz. Osaloo & Charkhch. is described as a new species. It is restricted to the northwestern Alborz mountain range in Rudbar-Alamut, Qazvin, Iran. The diagnostic characters and relevant description of the species are given. The new species is distinguished from its closely related taxa, Onobrychis verae Sirj., O. ptychophylla Sirj. & Rech.f., and O. sosnowskyi Grossh. in both morphological and molecular evidence (nrDNA ITS sequences). The distribution map and an illustration of the new species are also provided.

Allium efeae Özhatay & İ.Genç is described as a new species from northwest Anatolia. The distribution area of this species is restricted to Kıbrıscık (Bolu) and Beypazarı (Ankara). It resembles Allium lycaonicum Siehe, but differs in tepal shape and color, leaf length, and filament shape. A table comparing the diagnostic morphological characters of the new species and A. lycaonicum is provided. The diagnostic morphological characters, distribution, conservation status, and color photographs of the new species as well as its chromosome number (2n = 24) are presented.

Orthotrichum pamiricum Plasek & Sawicki is described as a new species from the western foothills of the Pamir Mountains of the Tajik-Afghan border in Central Asia. It is placed in Orthotrichum Hedw. subg. Pulchella (Schimp.) Vitt. The species is characterized by obtuse leaf apices, cryptoporous stomata, an exostome composed of 8 pairs of the teeth that are recurved when dry, and an endostome with 16 thin and incurved segments. Molecular data indicating the phylogenetic placement of O. pamiricum are also presented.

Linanthus bernardinus is described as new from San Bernardino County, California. It is morphologically similar to L. killipii and L. orcuttii subsp. pacificus but differs from plants of these taxa in height, corolla length, seed morphology, and habitat. Linanthus bernardinus can be found growing in vernally moist areas within Joshua tree woodland, often in shallow depressions, or on gentle slopes, in decomposed granite sand that is surrounded by large granite boulder fields.

The type specimen of Magnolia odoratissima Y.W.Law & R.Z.Zhou (Magnoliaceae) conflicts with the protologue and belongs to the genus Parakmeria Hu & W.C.Cheng. A new name, Magnolia kwangnanensis S.G.Chen & Q.W.Zeng sp. nov., and a new type are designated to accommodate the original description. Here we provide new data and a detailed morphological description for this species. Notes are also presented on its habitat, pollen morphology, and conservation status.

Astragalus yukselii Karaman & Aytaç (Leguminosae) is described as a new species and illustrated. The species is distributed near the town of Hadim in Konya Province (South Anatolia). Diagnostic morphological characters useful in discriminating the new species from its close relatives, A. isauricus Hub.-Mor. & V.A.Matthews and A. karjaginii (Boriss.) Boriss., are explained. Both species clearly belong to Astragalus L. sect. Macrophyllium Boiss., which is characterised by large leaves and flowers. We also present some notes on the ecology, biogeography, and conservation status of the new species.

It is known from two general locations, one in the Orocopia Mountains (Riverside County) and the other in the Marble Mountains and adjacent Bristol Mountains (San Bernardino County). The habitat is desert scrub on rocky hillsides and along arroyos, primarily in rock crevices or gravelly soils, at elevations from approximately 600 to 850 m. Two new Cephalaria Schrad. ex Roem. et Schult. species (Caprifoliaceae) from Turkey, Cephalaria davisiana Göktürk & Sümbül and Cephalaria sumbuliana Göktürk, are described and illustrated. A map showing their distribution and other related taxa is given. The morphological differences of the 2 new species are discussed and comparisons are made with the similar Cephalaria speciosa Boiss. & Kotschy and Cephalaria elmaliensis Hub.-Mor. & V.A.Matthews. In addition to morphological observations, C. davisiana, C. sumbuliana, C. elmaliensis, and C. speciosa were analysed by applying RAPD-PCR techniques. RAPD methods clearly distinguished between the new species and the 2 species that they resemble.

Marrubium sivasense Aytaç, Akgül & Ekici sp. nova (Lamiaceae) is described and illustrated from Central Anatolia, Turkey. The new species most resembles Marrubium depauperatum, but it differs by 3-10 flowered verticillasters, crenate to crenulated leaf margins, and unequal calyx teeth. The ecology and phenology of the new species as well as its etymology, conservation status, and diagnostic features are discussed.

Eryngium babadaghensis G.Ecevit-Genç, E.Akalın & A.Wörz sp. nova (Apiaceae, Saniculoideae) is described as a new species from the Babadağ (Fethiye-Muğla) in south-west Turkey. The new species is closely related to E. kotschyi Boiss., which is endemic to Turkey. Verbascum hasbenlii Aytaç & H.Duman sp. nov. (sect. Bothrosperma Murb.) is described and illustrated from Turkey. This new species was collected in B1 Çan (Çanakkale Province) area. V. hasbenlii appears to be closely allied to V. luciliae (Boiss.) O.Kuntze and V. haraldi-adnani Parolly & Eren. Its affinities with this and other related species are discussed. The characteristic features of pollen, seed, stomata structure, and hairs are studied using a scanning electron microscope and the distribution of the new species in Turkey is given.

Streptanlhus vernalis is a newly described species inhabiting serpentine rock outcrops in the Three Peaks area in Lake County, California. Morphological and allozyme data indicate that this taxon is related to the S. morrisonii complex.

Eleocharis (Cyperaceae) includes approximately 200 species and is particularly diverse in the New World. A newly discovered species of subgenus Limnochloa is described from the states of Sonora and Mexico, Mexico. Eleocharis yecorensis is related to E. acutangula, E. mutata. and E. quadrangulata and can be distinguished from these species by its five-angled culms, obdeltoid achenes. and narrow neck between tubercle and achene body. In addition. E. yecorensis possesses root storage structures similar to those found in the Chinese water chestnut, Eleocharis dulcis.
