A New Species Of Cyathus (Agaricaceae) From India, Kanad Das, Manoj Emanuel Hembrom, Arvind Parihar, Rui Lin Zhao

The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden is a well-known botanical garden. Cyathus thindii, a new species of bird's nest fungus, was collected from this garden, and is described and illustrated in the present paper. It is distinct with its sessile basidiomata growing on a white mycelial pad, plicate exterior (partly) and interior wall of the peridium, comparatively large peridioles without tunica, and medium sized spores. Its relation with allied taxa is discussed and a provisional key to the Indian species of Cyathus is given in the present paper.

Resistance gene analogs (RGAs), peroxidases (POXs), and WRKY transcription factors are gene families related to stress-response pathways that regulate enhancement of stress tolerance in crop plants. In this study, the polymorphisms of these gene families were determined in the genus Lens Miller and Vicia montbretii (Fish. And Mey) Davis and Plitmann. Phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N), carbon ©, and sulfur (S) contents of the leaves and specific leaf area (SLA), leaf mass per area (LMA), and N and P resorption were researched in Vaccinium arctostaphylos L. The tetraploid fern Cryptogramma crispa (L.) R.Br. Ex Hook. İs distributed across alpine and high latitude regions of Europe and western Asia and is sympatric with the recently described octoploid C. Bithynica S.Jess., L.Lehm. And Bujnoch in north-central Turkey. Our analysis of a 6-region plastid DNA sequence dataset comprising 39 accessions of Cryptogramma R.Br., including 14 accessions of C. Crispa and one accession of C. Bithynica, revealed a deep genetic division between the accessions of C. Crispa from western, northern, and central Europe and the accessions of C. Crispa and C. We assessed the combined effects of elevated CO2 and nutrients on the metabolism of a benthic community dominated by the seagrass Cymodocea nodosa (Ucria) Ascherson in a mesocosm experiment. C. Nodosa plants and their associated community were exposed to two CO2 levels simulating future (700 ppm, pH 7.84) and current (360 ppm, pH 8.12) conditions, and two nutrient levels (enriched and ambient concentration) in a total of four treatments (-C-N, -C+N, +C-N, +C+N). Natural and anthropogenic habitats differed greatly in terms of soil nutrients. Soil at the anthropogenic sites contained significantly lower concentrations of nitrogen (N) than those at the natural sites. Seeds of Epipactis helleborine were sampled from these two contrasting growth habitats and their size and nutrient composition were recorded. The 8 populations of E. Helleborine were different in seed and embryo volumes, but there were no significant differences in seed width. On a broad scale, the extent of clearing and plowing of the crops in rangelands has brought a significant degradation in pasture species along with an invasion of weed species. This work evaluates the vegetation composition of an agriculture field after 15 years of exclosure and protection against clearing and plowing activities. Vegetation cover, density, richness, species dispersion, and diversity index were estimated through 12 permanent transects of 20 m in length and 23 quadrats of 1 m2 over a 3-year period. This study reports twelve species of cladoniicolous fungi from Turkey. Nine of these taxa, i.e. Abrothallus cladoniae R.Sant. And D.Hawksw., Epicladonia stenospora (Harm.) D.Hawksw., Lichenosticta alcicornaria (Linds.) D.Hawksw., Lichenoconium aeruginosum Diederich, M.Brand, van den Boom and Lawrey, Phoma foliaceiphila Diederich, Kocourk. And Etayo, Scutula cladoniicola Alstrup and D.Hawksw., Sphaerellothecium cladoniicola E.S. Hansen and Alstrup, Syzygospora bachmannii Diederich and M.S.Christ., and Taeniolella beschiana Diederich, are new records for Turkey. A key to these 12 species of lichenicolous fungi on Cladonia species is provided.

Muscari elmasii Yıldırım (Asparagaceae) is described as a new species to science. It is endemic to the western Anatolia region of Turkey. M. elmasii is known from a single locality in Muğla Province. It is related to M. weissii and M. massayamum by morphological features and shows some similarities in terms of morphological characters and the same distribution area to M. mirum. As well as its morphological characteristics and classification with regards to sections, its description, ecology, and relationship with related species are presented and discussed. Prospero cudidaghense Fırat & Yıldırım (Asparagaceae) is described as a species new to science based on morphological studies. It is endemic to the eastern Anatolian region of Turkey. P. cudidaghense is known from a single locality on Cudi Mountain, located in Şırnak Province. It is an isolated taxon of the genus Prospero. It is related to P. autumnale and P. seisumsianum. Diagnostic morphological characters are discussed and compared with those of related taxa. It can be easily distinguished from all taxa in the genus Prospero by its spring flowering time, synanthous leaves, and chasmophytic habit.

A synopsis of the sect. Hymenocoleus Bunge, sect. Hymenostegis Bunge, and sect. Macrophyllium Boiss. belonging to Astragalus L. in Turkey is given based on a revisional study carried out in Turkey. As a result of this study, an account of 19 species including keys and general distribution as well as their conservation status in Turkey is given. It is determined that A. narmanicus Karaman & Aytaç is new to science and A. expetitus Maassoumi, A. pereshkhoranicus Maassoumi & F.Ghahrem., and A. marivanensis Maassoumi & Podlech do not exist in Turkey. Additionally, the name of the sect. Hymenocoleus is preserved.

In a literature search, the presence of Haematococcus in phytoplankton communities and its biogeography were investigated. Haematococcus, although showing a wide biogeographical distribution, has been rarely found in phytoplankton communities. Simultaneously, the colonization potential of air-dispersed Haematococcus in ephemeral waters and its interactions with coexisting phytoplankton taxa were examined by microscopy and molecular methods. Haematococcus was a successful colonist, appearing among the first taxa in the experimental containers. According to principal component analysis, Haematococcus growth rate was negatively correlated with the abundance and species richness of the other autotrophs. Eumusae leaf spot disease, caused by Mycosphaerella eumusae, is widely distributed in different banana growing countries in Asia and Africa, causing severe losses in yield and quality of banana. The aim of this study was to identify the differentially expressed defense responsive genes through subtractive suppression hybridization (SSH) in the Musa-M. eumusae interaction system. In this method, leaf samples collected at different intervals between 0 and 72 h postinoculation (hpi) of M. eumusae from resistant (Manoranjitham-AAA) and susceptible (Grand Naine-AAA) cultivars were subjected to cDNA-SSH library construction. We tested the phylogenetic utility of three chloroplast DNA loci, i.e. the trnL(UAA) intron, trnL(UAA)-F(GAA) intergenic spacer (IGS), and trnV(UAC) intron, across thirteen native Oxytropis species. Our objective was to determine whether any of these chloroplast DNA markers could be beneficial to figure out phylogenetic relationships among Oxytropis species. To increase the interspecific sampling, nine sequences of the trnL intron and trnL-F regions were retrieved from GenBank and included in the analyses.
