Vegetation Patterns In Relation To Topography And Edaphic Variation Nebraska Sandhills Prairie, P. W. Barnes, A. T. Harrison, S. P. Heinisch
School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications
Detailed studies on soil texture and moisture retention indicate a close association between edaphic features and the distribution and composition of plant communities along topographic gradients at Arapaho Prairie, a typical, semi-arid Nebraska Sandhills prairie. The vegetation characteristics of three major habitat types (ridge, slope, and valley) and several minor subtypes (swale, stable ridge, and eroding ridge) are recognized and quantitatively described. Texture analysis indicates that the soils of dune slopes and ridges are largely azonal and are very coarse with substantially lower fine fractions (silt-clay ~ 13-15%) than soils of the more lowland swale and valley sites where surfact …

Die Mongoleisammlung Im Herbarium Der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Werner Hilbig
Erforschung biologischer Ressourcen der Mongolei / Exploration into the Biological Resources of Mongolia, ISSN 0440-1298
Jahrhundert enthalten, z. T. von A . …

Analysis Of The Presettlement Forests Of The Unglaciated Portions Of Southern Illinois, Lawrence A. Leitner
Analysis Of The Presettlement Forests Of The Unglaciated Portions Of Southern Illinois, Lawrence A. Leitner
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research used the data on witness trees found in the surveyors' records of the General Land Office surveys of 1805-1815 as the basis for studying the primeval forests of unglaciated southern Illinois. Via computer, the random pairs and closest individual methods of plotless sampling were used to develop stand attributes tables, with soil association boundaries defining the limits of forest stands. A vegetation map was developed from these stands. Four major forest types were delineated: Upland Oak, nixed Hardwoods, Swamp Forest, and Floodplain Forest. The Upland Oak Forest, with lowest density (175.9/ha or 71.2/acre) and basal area (21.3 rn …

The Ethnobotany Of The Isleta Indians, Volney H. Jones
The Ethnobotany Of The Isleta Indians, Volney H. Jones
Anthropology ETDs
This study is an outgrowth of the increasing interest in the history, ethnology, and archaeology of the Pueblo Indians of the Southwest. Although much research has been done in this very fertile field, new and fascinating problems are constantly presenting themselves.
When one states that the environment greatly influences a people he speaks truisms and common knowledge. The arid Southwest with its distinctive flora offers an unusual environment to which the Indian had adapted himself remarkably well. The object in general of this problem has been to study the reciprocal relation between the Isleta Indian and his plant environment; specifically, …

41 page annotated list of vascular plants collected by the authors in and around the Perkiomen Creek in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. "About the year 1915 Dr. Kline, Brendle and Mumbauer began to make weekly collecting trips. This preliminary catalogue rests mostly upon the work done on these trips." [from the Foreword]
