Farmer's Bulletin No. 2191, TREFOIL PRODUCTION FOR PASTURE AND HAY, was released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in July, 1967. This publication noted that acreages of trefoil in the U.S. increased from 770,000 in 1957 to over 2 million acres in 1967. This bulletin is an excellent guide to kinds of trefoils, to the different varieties available, and to general production practices in obtaining stands and in managing this legume. It is stated in the bulletin that birdsfoot trefoil is not recommended south of a line drawn from the Nebraska-Kansas border to the east coast, except at higher elevations. …

"1970· Progress Eight of the 5 unreplicated trials were cropped without fertiliser. Seven were harvested (severe weed infestation ruined 66KA 7). Three trials left under pasture responded to the fertiliser treatments and were cut for dry matter production. The remaining four trials left under pasture grew badly, became weed dominant and were not rated for growth differences between treatments or cut for dry matter production. The replicated trials at Avondale and Newdegate were also cropped, without fertiliser. Airplanes were first used in agriculture shortly after the close of World War I. They proved valuable for locating mosquito breeding areas, for forest fire patrol work, as an aid in locating outlaw cotton fields in the campaign against pink bollworm, and for surveying damage caused in large forested areas by the spruce budworm.

A native of the old world, from central Europe to China, bromegrass was introduced into the United States about 1884. In 1899, the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station reported that "all things considered, it is the most promising cultivated pasture grass for this state that has been tested on the Station farm." Early records of the Station show that considerable seed was distributed to farmers during the period from 1898 to 1902. A few of these early plantings are still in existence.
