Residual Value Of Rock Phosphate Fertilizers, J W. Bowden, Michael D A Bolland Jan 1987

Residual Value Of Rock Phosphate Fertilizers, J W. Bowden, Michael D A Bolland

Technical Bulletins

The residual value of Christmas Island C-grade ore, 500 degrees C heated (calcined) C-grade ore (Calciphos), and superphosphate was measured in three experiments. Plant yield, and bicarbonate-soluble phosphorus extracted from the top 10 cm of soil were used to indicate the effectiveness of the four fertilizers. Using either of these indicators, superphosphate was the most effective fertilizer.

Peanuts In The Ord, D L. Mcneil, D. W. Bennett Jan 1987

Peanuts In The Ord, D L. Mcneil, D. W. Bennett

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

The peanut industry on the Ord River Irrigation Area is expected to gross about $1.9 million at the end of the decade, a tidy return for an industry that only started truly commercial plantings some six yesrs ago.

At present the Ord River Irrigation Area produces about 2.5 per cent of Australia's total production, but it hopes to increase this to 7 per cent. High yields and plantings on non-staining soils make peanuts one of the most succesful crops grown on the Ord.

The Effect Of Soil Acidity On Barley, P J. Dolling, T. D. Haines

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Three liming experiments were established to confirm previous estimates of the critical soil acidity level for barley. Two experiments studying the effect of depth of incorporation on the effectiveness of lime, established in 1986, were continued in 1987.
The results from the three liming experiments established this year supported the conclusion that barley is affected by soil acidity at pH's around 4.2 and 4.3 (CaC12) and that depth of this acid layer is important.
Significant lime responses were obtained at the Katanning depth of lime incorporation site but conclusions can not be made because of possible mixing of …

They were designed to monitor soil/fertiliser nitrogen transformations with time. Unfortunately the site of this trial was variable. The end most similar to the other trials was deeper and sandier and stored less water than the other and where crop growth was far better.
