The aim of this study was to assess the aerobic capacity of men after acute myocardial infarction (G-AMI) and of healthy sedentary men (G-C) at the anaerobic threshold (AT) and at the peak of the exercise (up to physical exhaustion) during a ramp-type ergospirometric test (R-ET). Methods: 22 volunteers divided into two groups: G-AMI (n=10), 55.6 ± 9.7 years old, undergoing β-blocking therapy (atenolol, dosage 46 ± 9.4 mg/day), Killip classification grade I, and G-C (n=12), 53.3 ± 3.2 years old. In cycling the exercise power (w) is a product of cadence (rpm) and kilopounds (kp). The purpose of this study was to check the pedaling frequency influence on critical power (CP) determined using non-exhaustive aerobic capacity test (Chassain, 1986). Adult men (n=2) were submitted to four powers (100, 120, 130 and 150 w) in two different cadences (40 and 70 rpm) in cycloergometer (Monark 894 E). Two exercise bouts lasting 180 seconds by 90 seconds of interval were performed at an equal intensity. The heart rate (HR) has been used as indicator of competitive actions intensity in soccer players. The aim of this study was to analyze the competitive modeling of HR in eight brazilian juniors soccer players (18.84 ± 1.04 years; 71.19 ± 8.60Kg; 177.25 ± 6.04 cm) during a preparatory stage game. All were evaluated with Polar® heart rate monitor Team System model in five moments: warm-up (16min and 40s), recovery (8min and 15s), 1st half (48min), interval (7min and 45s), 2nd half (45min and 30s), and the heartbeats saved every 5 seconds. While much is known about the muscular and neurological responses in the body during a one rep max (1RM) bench press test, there is little research regarding the cardiovascular response. The purpose of this study was to investigate the physiological response, specifically in the cardiopulmonary system, during 1RM testing in real-time using the Zephyr Bioharness. Thirty college undergraduates who were enrolled in beginning weight training for three months were asked to wear a BioHarness device during a 1RM bench test. Passive limb movement (PLM) in humans induces a phasic hyperpnea, but the underlying physiological mechanisms remain unclear. We asked whether PLM in anesthetized rats would produce a similar phasic hyperpnea associated with an augmented ventilatory (E) response to CO2 that is dependent on sciatic afferents. The animals underwent 5 min threshold PLM, 3 min hypercapnia (5% CO2), and their combination (CO2 exposure at the end of 2nd min of 5-min PLM) before and after bilateral transection of the sciatic nerves. Carbohydrate beverages consumed during long-term exercise have been shown to attenuate fatigue and improve performance; however, the optimal timing of ingestion is unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine if timing the carbohydrate ingestion (front-loading (FL), continual loading (CL), and end-loading (EL)) during prolonged exercise influenced exercise performance in competitive cyclists. Ten well-trained cyclists completed three separate exercise bouts on a bicycle ergometer, each lasting 2 hours at an intensity of ~67% VO2 max, followed by a 15-minute “all out” time trial. The present study investigated the rate of systolic blood pressure recovery (SBPR) amongst three male age groups. Ninety-six apparently healthy, non-athletic adult males (48 young [23.91±4.58 years], 32 middle-aged [41.78±5.98 years] and 16 elderly [62.87±2.57 years]) participated in the study. Subjects performed a maximal-effort ergometer exercise test. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) was measured during the exercise protocol; heart rate (HR) and SBP were measured before exercise (after 10 and 15 minutes of rest), during exercise (at 2-minute intervals), and at the first minute of post-exercise recovery and subsequently at 2-minute intervals until the recovery of SBP. This study examined the effects of music on heart rate (HR) as well as ratings of perceived exertion (RPE-B) while running on a treadmill for 20 minutes. Research subjects included men and women, ages 18 to 25. All subjects completed a 20-minute treadmill run set at 5.0 mph with 0% grade. Omron heart monitors were used to measure and record subjects’ HR every 2 minutes after the start of the test. The purpose of this study was to determine how physical education students' cardiovascular responses as determined by mean heart rate, standard deviation of heart rate, and percentage of time in target heart rate zone varied according to student characteristics. Participants were 505 students in Grades 3 through 12. The Polar Accurex Plus heart rate telemetry system was used to measure the physiological load on the cardiovascular system. Three-way ANOVA results suggested that heart rate patterns in physical education varied according to gender, grade, and activity.
