The Effect Of Massage On Blood Lactate Levels Following A Maximal Treadmill Run, Ann Morien-Mcmurray
The Effect Of Massage On Blood Lactate Levels Following A Maximal Treadmill Run, Ann Morien-Mcmurray
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of massage on blood lactate levels in trained male runners following a maximal treadmill run. Twenty-two male distance runners performed a maximal aerobic run on a motor-driven treadmill, at 9 mph and a 2 1/2% grade increase every minute until exhaustion. Fifteen of the subjects were randomly selected for either an active bicycle recovery (pedaling at 40% VO2max), or to receive a massage. A third group served as a control and lay supine during recovery. The three recoveries lasted 20 min. Venous blood was collected during the recovery at 3, …
Norepinephrine And Temperature Regulation In Goldfish, Lonnie Paul Wollmuth
Norepinephrine And Temperature Regulation In Goldfish, Lonnie Paul Wollmuth
Dissertations and Theses
Cannulae were implanted into forebrain loci of goldfish (Carassius auratus; 45-90 g) to determine (i) the effects and site of action of intracranial norepinephrine (NE) injections on behavioral thermoregulation and (ii) the mechanism and the types of adrenoreceptors involved in the thermoregulatory effect of NE. After 30 min in a thermal gradient, implanted fish were injected with norepinephrinebitartrate salt (2.5-500 ng NE) in a total volume of 0.2 ul (carrier was 0.7% NaCl). Injections of 5, 10, 25, and 50 ng NE into the anterior aspect of the nucleus preopticus periventricularis (NPP1 Peter and Gill 1975) led to consistent, dose-dependent …
The Effects Of Orally Ingested Sodium Bicarbonate On Performance Time And Blood Lactate Concentration In Trained Middle Distance Runners, Michael John Webster
The Effects Of Orally Ingested Sodium Bicarbonate On Performance Time And Blood Lactate Concentration In Trained Middle Distance Runners, Michael John Webster
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of orally ingested sodium bicarbonate on performance time and the accumulation of blood lactic acid in trained middle distance runners during short-term, high intensity treadmill running.
Nine, male, varsity track athletes, from the University of Northern Iowa performed two runs to exhaustion on a motor-driven treadmill at 15 mph. Sodium bicarbonate (NaHC03), or a placebo calcium carbonate (Caco3 ), amounting to .3 grams per kilogram of body weight was orally ingested 135 minutes prior to exercise. Venous blood was collected immediately before exercise, two minutes after exercise, and three minutes …
