The effect of ethyl alcohol (10%) on the postnatal development of cerebellar cortex was studied using histological and morphometric methods. The external granular layer was much increased in thickness in alcohol fed rat than those of the control while the molecular and granular layer were reduced. The cells of themolecular layer showed neuronal degeneration and many spaces were present in this layer esp < /strong>ecially late postnatal. The Purkinje cells failed to reach their final position up the tenth day and still arranged in more than one row. The degenerative changes appeared at five days and increased with age. The extent …

Powder characteristics of indomethacin powder purchased from three different suppliers were studied. Moisture content, particle shape, particle size, polymorphism and particulate dissolution were determined. All of the indomethacin powder studied were of y-polymorph. This study demonstrated that particulate dissolution rate of indomethacin powder increased with decreased particle size.

Naphthoquiones And A Sterol From Impatiens Balsamina L. Root Cultures, Pharkphoom Panichayupakaranant, Hiroshi Noguchi, Wanchai De-Eknamkul, Uchio Sankawa
The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
A binaphthoquinone; diphthiocol, two naphthoquinones; lawsone and 2-methoxy -1,4-naphthoquinone, and a sterol; spinasterol, were isolated from the root cultures of Impatiens balsamina . Their structures were established on the basis of UV, IR, mass, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectral data. Diphthiocol is a new natural product in which its synthesis has been reported.

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
From dried stems of Tinospora rumphii Boerl. (Menispermaceae), a monolignan glycoside, syringin (1), and a diterpene glycoside, borapetoside B (2), were isolated. The structures of 1 and 2 were elucidated by spectroscopic and enzymatic studies. The amino acid composition and content in ethanol extract of the stems have also been studied.

Amino Acid Composition And Contents Of Some Thai Medicinal Plants, Fumio Ikegami, Terumi Fukuda, Nijsiri Ruangrungsi, Isamu Murakoshi
The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Examination of the amino acid composition and contents in ethanol extracts from 6 species of Thai medicinal plants revealed that Mucuna collettii contained a large amount of L-DOPA (62.5 umol/g dry wt) which occupied about 83% of all free amino acids in this plant. Some plants yielded a relative high amount of GABA as a major amino acid.
