In this study, the yield of biomass and polyhydroxyalkanoate  (PHA) of Pseudomonas oleovorans grown in batch and fed-batch cultivations were compared. When oleic acid (QA) (0.5% w/v) was used as carbon source, a significant increase in biomass.and PHA content were observed through fedbatch cultivation. The biomass and PHA content obtained from batch cultivation were 1.45±0.19 g/I and 2.50±0.77 % cell dry weight (CDW) respectively, while in the fed-batch cultivation, the biomass and PHA content increased significantly to 3.35±0.78 g/I and 32.72±0.30 %CDW respectively.  When saponified palm olein (SPO) (0.5% w/v) was used as a carbon source, the batch cultivation yielded …

Salmonella typhi S8 is resistant to ampicillin (Ac), chloramphenicol (Cm), cotrimoxazole (Ctm), streptomycin (Sm), and tetracycline (Tc). The Ac, Cm, Ctm. and Sm resistance traits have been shown to be mediated by a multiple antibiotic resistance transposon located on a large conjugative plasmid. Transposition of the transposon encoding Ac^R (ampicillin resistance), Cm^R Ctm^R and Sm^R designated TnX8, was done by Wong (1999) to a recipient replicon, plasmid pUB307. The Ac^R Cm^R, Ctm^R and Sm^R genes were subcloned into plasmid pKan by digesting the recombinant plasmid, des ignated pCL8 (pUB307::TnX8), with San. Human herpes virus 6 (HHV6) is an ubiquitous, lymphoproliferative P-herpesvirus, which infects almost all individuals during infancy and persists lifelong. Two variants of HHV6 (A and B) have been described. The present study is on HHV6B, which causes exanthem subitum, also known as roseola infantum, a common febrile childhood illness. Two methods of detection for anti-HHV6B in body fluids were used, being indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and peptidylated pin-ELISA. The transition from a planktonic (free-swimming) existence to growth attached to a surface in a biofilm occurs in response to environmental factors, including the availability of nutrients. We show that the catabolite repression control (Crc) protein, which plays a role in the regulation of carbon metabolism, is necessary for biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Using phase-contrast microscopy, we found that a crc mutant only makes a dispersed monolayer of cells on a plastic surface but does not develop the dense monolayer punctuated by microcolonies typical of the wild-type strain.
