A106: Aerobic Exercise Modulates Gpcr/Camp/Pka Signaling Pathway And Complement-Microglia Axis To Prevent Synaptic Loss In App/Ps1 Mice, Jialun Yang, Shunling Yuan, Ye Jian, Yong Lei, Zelin Hu, Xinjun Yan, Wenfeng Liu

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Purpose: Synaptic failure serves as a primary contributor to memory dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Physical exercise has demonstrated the potential to thwart and delay degenerative alterations in memory functions linked to AD. Investigating the underlying mechanisms may unveil crucial insights into early pathological changes, offering breakthroughs for both understanding and treating AD. Methods: We utilized 3-month-old APP/PS1 mice and subjected them to a 12-week aerobic exercise intervention. The spatial learning and memory functions of the mice were assessed using the Morris water maze test, while Golgi staining was employed to determine dendritic spine density in each mouse group. To …

Purpose: As the social economy rapidly advances, and competition intensifies, university students are confronted with both increased opportunities and significant psychological pressures. Notably, the incidence of depression is on the rise, with approximately 20.3% of university students in China experiencing certain psychological issues. Against this backdrop, this study seeks to explore the interplay between exercise motivation, exercise adherence, and depression among university students. Methods: A cohort of 25 subclinical individuals experiencing psychological issues related to depression was chosen to partake in a 2-month exercise intervention study. The intervention involved Salsa dance, with a frequency of approximately 2 hours twice a …

A115: Revision Of The Chinese Version Of Physical Self-Description Questionnaire-Short For Middle School Students, Ruijin Wang, Xiaoling Yang, Liu Ji

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Purpose: The Physical Self-Description Questionnaire -Short (PSDQ-S) is one of the world's recognized effective tools for measuring Physical Self-Concept (PSC). However, Latent profile analysis of the physical self-description among Chinese adolescents only supported the 3-dimensional model of PSDQ-S, that is, it could only distinguish the Physical Activity (PA), Appearance, and Body Fat of Chinese children and adolescents, but could not effectively distinguish the 8 dimensions of Coordination, Flexibility, Strength, Endurance, Sport, Global Physical, Health, and Global Esteem. It cannot meet the needs of PSC measurement in the field of sports psychology in China. The purpose of this study was to …

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Purpose: The highly morbid condition known as sarcopenia affects middle-aged and elderly people and is characterized by a progressive loss of whole-body muscle mass accelerated by aging. It is also accompanied by a decline in muscle strength and physiological function. These weakening functions manifest as impaired physical movement, increased risk of falls, disability, lower quality of life, and even death. Sarcopenia is progressively emerging as a new public health issue in China with a quickly aging population, making it vital to investigate effective exercise therapies for sarcopenic patients. Methods: Sixty sarcopenic patients (aged 60-75) from a local hospital in northeast …

Changes In Brain Activity Immediately Post-Exercise Indicate A Role For Central Fatigue In The Volitional Termination Of Exercise, Grant Chesbro, Cameron Owens, Melody Reese, Lisa Destefano, J. Mikhail Kellawan, Daniel Larson, Michael Wenger, Rebecca Larson Jan 2024

Changes In Brain Activity Immediately Post-Exercise Indicate A Role For Central Fatigue In The Volitional Termination Of Exercise, Grant Chesbro, Cameron Owens, Melody Reese, Lisa Destefano, J. Mikhail Kellawan, Daniel Larson, Michael Wenger, Rebecca Larson

International Journal of Exercise Science

International Journal of Exercise Science 17(1): 220-234, 2024. Electroencephalography (EEG) allows for the evaluation of real time changes in brain (electrocortical) activity during exercise. A few studies have examined changes in electrocortical activity using stationary cycling, but the findings have been mixed. Some of these studies have found increases in brain activity following exercise, while others have found decreases in brain activity following exercise. Hence, it is of importance to identify post-exercise changes in brain activity. Sixteen healthy, untrained subjects (8 males; 8 females) participated in the study. All 16 participants performed a graded exercise test (GXT) to volitional exhaustion …

The test data were analyzed using a paired t-test, an …

Kinematic Characteristics Of Novices’ Sprint Techniques At Maximum Velocity Phase, Saburo Nishimura, Yoshinori Kinomura Jan 2024

Kinematic Characteristics Of Novices’ Sprint Techniques At Maximum Velocity Phase, Saburo Nishimura, Yoshinori Kinomura

Topics in Exercise Science and Kinesiology

Topics in Exercise Science and Kinesiology Volume 5: Issue 1, Article 2, 2024. Sprint performance is a crucial aspect of achieving high performance across a range of sports. However, previous studies analyzing the sprint technique of novices have yielded disparate findings regarding effective sprint techniques. For instance, Saito and Ito (1995) found no significant difference in the maximum thigh angle of the free leg between boys aged 7 to 12 and sprinters. Conversely, Katoh et al. (2001) reported that elementary school sprinters indicated a larger maximum thigh angle of the free leg than novice elementary children. Inconsistency like this makes …

Outcome measures included VO2max, Venous Occlusion Plethysmography (VOP), %fat mass measured via DEXA, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and International …

Acetic Acid: An Underestimated Metabolite In Ethanol-Induced Changes In Regulating Cardiovascular Function, Andrew D. Chapp, Zhiying Shan, Qing Hui Chen Jan 2024

Acetic Acid: An Underestimated Metabolite In Ethanol-Induced Changes In Regulating Cardiovascular Function, Andrew D. Chapp, Zhiying Shan, Qing Hui Chen

Michigan Tech Publications

Acetic acid is a bioactive short-chain fatty acid produced in large quantities from ethanol metabolism. In this review, we describe how acetic acid/acetate generates oxidative stress, alters the function of pre-sympathetic neurons, and can potentially influence cardiovascular function in both humans and rodents after ethanol consumption. Our recent findings from in vivo and in vitro studies support the notion that administration of acetic acid/acetate generates oxidative stress and increases sympathetic outflow, leading to alterations in arterial blood pressure. Real-time investigation of how ethanol and acetic acid/acetate modulate neural control of cardiovascular function can be conducted by microinjecting compounds into autonomic …

Acute Ingestion Of Dark Chocolate Fails To Affect Running Economy In Recreational Female Runners, Bianca J. De Lucia, Beau Kjerulf Greer, Christopher B. Taber

Topics in Exercise Science and Kinesiology

Topics in Exercise Science and Kinesiology Volume 5: Issue 1, Article 1, 2024. Ingestion of dark chocolate (DC), a dietary source high in flavanols, may increase nitric oxide bioavailability. Elevating blood nitric oxide concentrations may augment metabolic efficiency by reducing the amount of oxygen or energy needed to perform a given task. Utilizing a crossover design, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acute ingestion of DC on running economy (RE). Nineteen recreationally trained females (age: 20±1 years) volunteered for this investigation, with 16 completing all procedures (n = 16). Two-hours before RE assessment, participants consumed …
