Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The worlds of sports science, data analytics, and sports performance are at a crossroads. Each field is accustomed to functioning in relative silos; however, this approach is quickly becoming outdated. Sporting organizations are adopting high-performance models that integrate all departments and their subsequent data pipelines. This has led to a wealth of information not available before to a team’s performance health staff in guiding optimal athletic performance. Within the sport of basketball, these silos can be split further into video coaching, basketball analytics, sports science, player development, and performance health. Specifically, basketball sports science can be categorized into internal and …

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
The purpose of this study was to assess relationships between students’ attitudes toward physical education (PE), their perceived competence toward PE, and their fitness test performance, as well as how these relationships change over time. Measurements were conducted with validated instruments across five time points during two school years with fourth and fifth grade students across ten schools (n = 636, 48% = female). This study was developed to address a need for examining how attitudes and perceived competence change over time. Descriptive statistics and latent growth models were run with the variables of interest to investigate four research …

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Purpose: Nowadays, the industrialization of education has led to the shortage of teachers and consequently hindered resource allocation and curriculum optimization. These problems are profound for educators when applying Kinesthetic Intelligence (KI) curriculum for children in early childhood. This paper examines the impact of the current KI course delivery on children’s physical fitness to provide reference for researchers and educators. Methods: Forty-six kids were randomly selected from two intermediate Kindergarten classes and were divided into an experimental group (EG) and a control group (CG). A pre-test of physical fitness was done on eight indices such as stature, weight, throwing, and …

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Purpose: The Physical Self-Description Questionnaire -Short (PSDQ-S) is one of the world's recognized effective tools for measuring Physical Self-Concept (PSC). However, Latent profile analysis of the physical self-description among Chinese adolescents only supported the 3-dimensional model of PSDQ-S, that is, it could only distinguish the Physical Activity (PA), Appearance, and Body Fat of Chinese children and adolescents, but could not effectively distinguish the 8 dimensions of Coordination, Flexibility, Strength, Endurance, Sport, Global Physical, Health, and Global Esteem. It cannot meet the needs of PSC measurement in the field of sports psychology in China. The purpose of this study was to …

A153: The Relationships Between Physical Activity And Health-Related Quality Of Life In Parent-Child Dyads With Asd, Yu Song, Bo Shen
International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Purpose: Researchers have found that the core and combined symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) negatively influence the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of autistic children and their parents. Although it is supported that participation in physical activity (PA) can enhance the HRQoL and well-being in general, few studies have addressed the relationship between HRQoL with PA in the population with ASD. This study examines how much leisure-time physical activity participation is correlated to HRQoL in parent-child dyads with ASD. Method: Participants were recruited from two Rehabilitation Centers for neurodevelopmental disability children. Eighty-five ASD children and their parents participated in …

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Purpose: Synaptic failure serves as a primary contributor to memory dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Physical exercise has demonstrated the potential to thwart and delay degenerative alterations in memory functions linked to AD. Investigating the underlying mechanisms may unveil crucial insights into early pathological changes, offering breakthroughs for both understanding and treating AD. Methods: We utilized 3-month-old APP/PS1 mice and subjected them to a 12-week aerobic exercise intervention. The spatial learning and memory functions of the mice were assessed using the Morris water maze test, while Golgi staining was employed to determine dendritic spine density in each mouse group. To …

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Purpose: The highly morbid condition known as sarcopenia affects middle-aged and elderly people and is characterized by a progressive loss of whole-body muscle mass accelerated by aging. It is also accompanied by a decline in muscle strength and physiological function. These weakening functions manifest as impaired physical movement, increased risk of falls, disability, lower quality of life, and even death. Sarcopenia is progressively emerging as a new public health issue in China with a quickly aging population, making it vital to investigate effective exercise therapies for sarcopenic patients. Methods: Sixty sarcopenic patients (aged 60-75) from a local hospital in northeast …
A84: Factors Influencing Parents' Intention To Involve Autistic Preschoolers In Outdoor Physical Activities, Hongchang Yang, Xiaoxia Zhang
A84: Factors Influencing Parents' Intention To Involve Autistic Preschoolers In Outdoor Physical Activities, Hongchang Yang, Xiaoxia Zhang
International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Purpose: Outdoor physical activities (OPA) can not only improve the physical fitness and health of autistic preschool children, but also provide an indispensable opportunity for their social learning and interaction. However, parents’ intentions of providing OPA for their autistic children are complex due to reasons such as potential risk. Theory of Planned Behavior(TPB)has conceptualized that attitude (AT), subjective norms (SN), and perceived behavioral control (PBC) are influential factors of behavioral intention. Perceived risk and perceived usefulness are suggested to associate with one’s intention, therefore, the purpose of this study was to test an extended TPB model on parent’s intention of …

A159: Effects Of Social Supports On Chinese Adolescent Perceived Physical Literacy, Junyi Bian, Benjamin Colin Cork
International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Purpose: Levels of physical activity in children have gradually declined from elementary to high school. This trend necessitates a greater need of perceived physical literacy (PPL) to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Because social supports for physical confidence (PC) and understanding (PU) are key to nursing PPL, this study investigated effects of perceived family support (PFS), perceived physical education support (PPES), and perceived community support (PCS) on PPL among a group of Chinese adolescents. Methods: The study was based on a retrospective investigation. A total of 3820 participants completed self-reported questionnaires assessing PFS, PPES, PCS. PPL was assessed by an eight-item …
