Background: Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and tau protein aggregates. These pathological features develop in specific brain regions, but why some areas are more vulnerable to early AD-related changes remains unclear. To address this, predictive gene expression signatures were developed to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying regional susceptibility to AD pathology.

The field of drug discovery has seen remarkable advancements over the past few decades, transitioning from traditional experimental methods to highly sophisticated computational approaches. One of the pivotal techniques in this evolution is virtual screening, which utilizes molecular docking to predict the interaction between small molecules and target proteins. This method has significantly accelerated the initial stages of drug discovery by enabling the high-throughput screening of large chemical libraries. By simulating the binding affinity and stability of potential drug candidates, virtual screening has become a cornerstone in identifying promising compounds for further development.

The advent of the Omicron strain of SARS-CoV-2 has elicited apprehension regarding its potential influence on the effectiveness of current vaccines and antibody treatments. The present investigation involved the implementation of mutational scanning analyses to examine the impact of Omicron mutations on the binding affinity of four categories of antibodies that target the Omicron receptor binding domain (RBD) of the Spike protein. The study demonstrates that the Omicron variant harbors 23 unique mutations across the RBD regions I, II, III, and IV. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer related deaths worldwide, reportedly contributing to 1.8 million of the 10.0 million mortalities documented in the year 2020. Since severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is highly contagious and mortal, finding a treatment is time critical. Drug repurposing is probably the quickest and safest approach in our arsenal. However, testing every drug in a brute force manner would require a lot of resources, and a more sophisticated method is required to filter possible candidates. Fusarium Euwallacea is a fungus that has established symbiotic relationship with the beetle Euwallacea aff. fornicata. The beetle bores through the tree bark and into the sapwood making long tunnels inside the trees. The beetle carries the F. Euwallacea in a specialized structure on its body called mandibular mycangia and cultivates the fungus in the tunnels on which the beetle feeds to grow and reproduce. The growth of the fungus obstructs water and mineral transport in the plant xylem tissue, resulting in dieback, wilt and mortality of the host tree.
