Two field trials (FieldExp1 and FieldExp2) and a pot experiment (PotExp) were c0onducted over a period of 3 years to assess olive tree response to nitrogen (N) applications and to estimate apparent N recovery. FieldExp1 was installed in a 3-year-old olive grove. FieldExp2 consisted of a plantation of young rooted plants. Two treatments were applied in both experiments: N application and a nonfertilized control. In PotExp, 4 N rates were used. This study was carried out to determine the effect of different growth periods and possible role of gibberellins (GAs) and abscisic acid (ABA) metabolites on the alternate bearing of the pistachio (Pistacia vera L.). For this purpose, the levels of GAs and ABA in the panicles and nuts of the trees during flower bud abscission and embryo development were analyzed in the crop "on" year. Alfalfa weevil (Hypera postica Gyllenhal, 1813) samples were collected from different locations in Kırşehir, Turkey, during May-August in 2014. They were immediately transferred to the research laboratory and dissected under aseptic conditions. Then serial dilutions were prepared from digestive tract samples and the spread plate technique was used for obtaining pure cultures. In this study, the mechanism of the biochemical adaptation of wild soybean to the experimentally modeled effects of cadmium sulfate and copper sulfate in approximately double permissible concentration was investigated. The extracted concentrations of cadmium and copper in the experimental soil were determined by inversion voltammetry - 1.46 and 48.25 mg/kg, respectively. Growing soybeans in soil with the addition of copper and cadmium sulfates led to an increase in the concentration of malonic dialdehyde in soybean seeds relative to control by 62% and 38%, respectively, which confirmed the strengthening of oxidative processes. The main objective of this study was to examine the characteristics and the relationship between walnuts in the Una-Sana Canton based on phenotypic properties. This is the first study of preselection of walnut variability in this area. In this study, we evaluated the phenological and morphological characteristics of 75 selected genotypes during 2014 and 2015. Twenty-four phenotypic traits were monitored throughout 2 years on different sites. This study investigated the effect of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na-CMC) added to urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin on particleboard production and its effects on the properties of the boards. The Na-CMC/UF was prepared at the selected blending levels of 0/100, 5/95, 10/90, 15/85, 20/80, 25/75, 30/70, 35/65, 40/60, 45/55, and 50/50. In the production of test panels, 55% coniferous and 45% broadleaved wood chips were used. The physical and mechanical properties of the particleboard panels were determined and evaluated. In this study, the effect of pretreatments (hot water blanching, microwave blanching, and ohmic heating (OH)) on the drying kinetics and quality characteristics of red pepper, dried at 60 and 70 °C, was investigated. The drying times varied between 205-290 min, depending on the pretreatment and temperature applied. The drying rate also changed based on the pretreatment and the falling rate period was observed. Fitted to the experimental data were 4 mathematical models and the logarithmic model was found to be the best for all of the samples. Plant community responses to environmental changes depend upon management strategies, climate, topography, and time. The objective herein was to determine canopy coverage and botanical changes in Turkish highland rangelands with different topographical characteristics between 1993 and 2013. Trends in the plant composition changed depending on the slope aspect (compass direction) and topography. The contribution of the grasses to the canopy decreased, while that of legumes and the other families increased. The results indicated that rangeland degradation occurred under uncontrolled grazing conditions. Suitable range management changes are recommended for the conservation of natural resources in the highland rangelands of Turkey.

In the present study, the fruit of 13 apricot cultivars (Adilcevaz, Alkaya, Aprikoz, Çataloğlu, Hacıhaliloğlu, Hasanbey, İsmailağa, Kabaaşı, Mahmuduneriği, Soğancı, Şam, Şekerpare, and Tokaloğlu-Erzincan), grown together at the Apricot Research Institute in Malatya Province, were harvested and evaluated for some important physicochemical and bioactive characteristics. Invasions often impact community attributes such as cover and species richness, but these factors may also regulate patterns of invasion. In such cases, impacts may be dependent on the invasion context. The role of thiamine (THI)-induced nitric oxide (NO) synthesis in the improvement of tolerance to boron (B) toxicity in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) was studied. A solution of THI (50 or 100 mg L-1) was sprayed to the foliage of pepper plants exposed to high B regime (2.0 mM H3BO3) once a week for 4 weeks. It is important to understand how woody species are affected by elevated in-soil CO2 for carbon capture and storage (CCS). A study was conducted to analyze the effects of artificially released in-soil CO2 on the physiology and growth of 4-year-old Pinus densiflora and 3-year-old Quercus variabilis seedlings. Approximately 7.9 kg CO2 plot-1 d-1 was released at a depth of 0.5 m over the period from 20 June to 20 July 2017. The chemical composition and the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of essential oils from two Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G.Don subspecies grown in Bulgaria were investigated. As a result, 95 compounds with concentrations above 0.05% were detected by GC/MS and 46 of them, mainly mono- and sesquiterpenes, representing 79.81% and 85.51% of the total content of the samples, were identified. The main constituents of the essential oil from Helichrysum italicum subsp. microphyllum (plant origin from Bosnia) were monoterpene α-pinene (20.84%) and sesquiterpene γ-curcumene (16.53%), followed by β-selinene (5.59%), ar-curcumene (4.39%), trans-caryophyllene (4.35%), β-diketone italidione I (4.32%), α-selinene (4.28%), and neryl acetate (3.81%). …

Changes Of Some Horticultural Characteristics In Jujube (Ziziphus Jujube Mill.) Fruit At Different Ripening Stages, Hakan Keles

In this study, changes in some horticultural characteristics of jujube fruits at two ripening stages were investigated. The ripening stages were determined by reference degree (%) of the red zone on the surface of the fruit: white ripening stage (WR), 5-15%; red ripening stage (RR), 95-100%. Fruit weight, length, width, color, and firmness were examined as morphological characteristics; phenolics, organic acids, fatty acids, and sugars were evaluated as biochemical characteristics. Many sources of woody biofuels provide alternative options to fossil fuels that can help mitigate greenhouse gases. One key component of feedstock sustainability from an ecosystem service perspective is soil sustainability. We examined eucalyptus (Eucalyptus grandis) plantations in the warm-temperate entic and mollic soils of Northeastern Argentina, oil palm plantations (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) in the tropical alfic soils of Southeastern Mexico, and aspen (Populus tremuloides) in the cool-temperate spodic soils of Northeastern United States. The associated code and data are supporting information for an assessment of large-scale changes in aquatic habitats within the varying pools of the Arkansas River, Arkansas, USA following impoundment of the river as part of the McClellan–Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. We used a combination of Landsat satellite data (30 m resolution) from 1984-2016 and the European Commission Joint Research Center’s (JRC) Global Surface Water dataset (GSW) to assess changes in water availability by aquatic habitat category and river pool in the Arkansas River system.
