Ethno-Medicinal Survey For Some Wild Plants Of Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan, Ramiz Raja, Tasveer Zahra Bokhari, Shakil Ahmad, Saeed Ahmad Malik, Kausar Hussain, Kashif Nadeem Sep 2020

Ethno-Medicinal Survey For Some Wild Plants Of Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan, Ramiz Raja, Tasveer Zahra Bokhari, Shakil Ahmad, Saeed Ahmad Malik, Kausar Hussain, Kashif Nadeem

Journal of Bioresource Management

Wild plants have always held economic, nutritional and medicinal value for human beings. Present work is the study of local information of some wild plants being used for remedial purposes in District Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan. The indigenous knowledge of local conventional uses was collected through survey and personal interviews during field trips. A total of 50 plant species were identified by taxonomic description using field guides and locally by medicinal knowledge of people living in the area. About 150 informers were interviewed randomly to record local names and ethno-medicinal uses of different plant species.

Overexpression Of Bplerd15 Enhances Drought Tolerance In Betula Platyphylla Suk, Kaiwen Lv, Hairong Wei, Jing Jiang Sep 2020

Overexpression Of Bplerd15 Enhances Drought Tolerance In Betula Platyphylla Suk, Kaiwen Lv, Hairong Wei, Jing Jiang

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1

In this study, we report the cloning and functional characterization of an early responsive gene, BplERD15, from Betula platyphylla Suk to dehydration. BplERD15 is located in the same branch as Morus indica Linnaeus ERD15 and Arabidopsis Heynh ERD15 in the phylogenetic tree built with ERD family protein sequences. The tissue-specific expression patterns of BplERD15 were characterized using qRT-PCR and the results showed that the transcript levels of BplERD15 in six tissues were ranked from the highest to the lowest levels as the following: mature leaves (ML) > young leaves (YL) > roots (R) >buds (B) >young stems (YS) >mature stems (MS). Multiple …

Simulated Fire Behavior And Fine-Scale Forest Structure Following Conifer Removal In Aspen-Conifer Forests In The Lake Tahoe Basin, Usa, Justin P. Ziegler, Chad M. Hoffman, Brandon M. Collins, Jonathan W. Long, Christa M. Dagley, William Mell Sep 2020

Simulated Fire Behavior And Fine-Scale Forest Structure Following Conifer Removal In Aspen-Conifer Forests In The Lake Tahoe Basin, Usa, Justin P. Ziegler, Chad M. Hoffman, Brandon M. Collins, Jonathan W. Long, Christa M. Dagley, William Mell

Aspen Bibliography

Quaking aspen is found in western forests of the United States and is currently at risk of loss due to conifer competition at within-stand scales. Wildfires in these forests are impactful owing to conifer infilling during prolonged fire suppression post-Euro-American settlement. Here, restoration cuttings seek to impact wildfire behavior and aspen growing conditions. In this study, we explored how actual and hypothetical cuttings with a range of conifer removal intensity altered surface fuel and overstory structure at stand and fine scales. We then simulated wildfires, examining fire behavior and effects on post-fire forest structures around aspen trees. We found that …

Drought- Conditioning Of Quaking Aspen (Populus Tremuloides Michx.) Seedlings During Nursery Production Modifies Seedling Anatomy And Physiology, Joshua L. Sloan, Owen T. Burney, Jeremiah R. Pinto Sep 2020

Drought- Conditioning Of Quaking Aspen (Populus Tremuloides Michx.) Seedlings During Nursery Production Modifies Seedling Anatomy And Physiology, Joshua L. Sloan, Owen T. Burney, Jeremiah R. Pinto

Aspen Bibliography

In the western US, quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) regenerates primarily by root suckers after disturbances such as low to moderate severity fires. Planting aspen seedlings grown from seed may provide a mechanism to improve restoration success and genetic diversity on severely disturbed sites. However, few studies have examined the use of container-grown aspen seedlings for restoration purposes from both the outplanting and nursery production perspective. Thus, the purpose of this novel study was to examine how alterations in irrigation levels during nursery production across three seed sources would impact seedling performance attributes on harsh, dry outplanting sites. Irrigation …

Wetland And Hydric Soils, Carl C. Trettin, Randall K. Kolka, Anne S. Marsh, Sheel Bansal, Erik A. Lilleskov, Rodney Chimner, Et Al. Sep 2020

Wetland And Hydric Soils, Carl C. Trettin, Randall K. Kolka, Anne S. Marsh, Sheel Bansal, Erik A. Lilleskov, Rodney Chimner, Et Al.

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1

Soil and the inherent biogeochemical processes in wetlands contrast starkly with those in upland forests and rangelands. The differences stem from extended periods of anoxia, or the lack of oxygen in the soil, that characterize wetland soils; in contrast, upland soils are nearly always oxic. As a result, wetland soil biogeochemistry is characterized by anaerobic processes, and wetland vegetation exhibits specific adaptations to grow under these conditions. However, many wetlands may also have periods during the year where the soils are unsaturated and aerated. This fluctuation between aerated and nonaerated soil conditions, along with the specialized vegetation, gives rise to …

Initial Establishment Success Of Five Forages In An East Texas Loblolly Pine (Pinus Taeda) Silvopasture, Michael Richard, Ken Farrish, Brian P. Oswald, Hans M. Williams, Michael Maurer Sep 2020

Initial Establishment Success Of Five Forages In An East Texas Loblolly Pine (Pinus Taeda) Silvopasture, Michael Richard, Ken Farrish, Brian P. Oswald, Hans M. Williams, Michael Maurer

Faculty Publications

The establishment at the end of 1 year of five forages was evaluated in a loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) silvopasture system. The five forages were: ‘Pensacola” bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum Fluegge), “Texas Tough” bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon L. Pers.), “Alamo” switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.), “San Marcos” Eastern gamagrass (Tripsacum dactyloides L.), and a native mix containing 45% “Texas” little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium Michx Nash), 15% sand lovegrass (Eragrostis trichodes Nutt. L. Alph. Wood), 15% “Blackwell” switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.), 10% “Lometa” indiangrass (Sorgastrum nutans L. Nash), 10% “Haskell” sideoats grama (Bouteloua …
