Tensile Resistance Of Dowel With The Pvac And Polymerin From Different Types Wood Or Particle Or Fiberboards, Yalçin Örs, Musa Atar, Ayhan Özçi̇fçi̇

This study was performed to determine the connections resistance with dowel of some beech wood materials and board types used in furniture industry, which are bonded by polyvinyl acetat (PVAc) and polyurethane based (Desmodur-VTKA) glues. For this purpose, the tensile resistance was made with wood materials; scotch pine (Pinus silvestris L), oriental beech (Fagus orientalis lipsky) and oak (Quercus petraea spp.) using cross and radial section with polyurethane based glue, edges of particle or fiber boards processed and unprocessed with beech wood, polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) glue. In this experiment, yield stabilty of 10 winter growth chickpea genotypes were investigated in Adana, Kahramanmaraş and Hatay Yayladağ. Experiments were located Çukurova University, Agricultural Faculty, Crop Science Department Experimental area in Adana, and farmers field in Kahramanmaraş and Hatay-Yayladağ. Chickpea variety that newly registered for winter crop ILC 482 (Güney Sarısı)), ILC-195, FLIP 85-14C (Menemen 92), FLIP 85-135C( Taşova 89) and promissing line FLIP 84-17C, FLIP 85-4C, FLIP 85-15C, FLIP 88-82C, FLIP 90-3C, FLIP 90-109C were used in experiments. The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems encountered in the irrigated and non-irrigated areas of Lower Seyhan Plain which coveres 213 200 ha land and has a great agricultural potential for Turkish economy. In the irrigated areas; it has been determined that actual cropping pattern is quite different from the proposed one, and irrigation ratio varied between 66 and 86 %. Although drainage problems still exist in 50 % of groundwater observation area, lands with groundwater salinity Ievels more than 5 000 \mumhos/cm cover only 4-5 % of these areas. This study attempted to describe the variations in the annual growth of Oriental spruce and to give a mean annual ring curve using annual rings. Another purpose was to determine the standardized chronology in the wood of Picea orientalis (L.) Link. As a result the standardized chronology in the wood of Oriental spruce between 1749-1988 was determined.

In this study mature and immature embryos of Doğu-88 wheat variety was cultured for callus development on MS medium supplemented with 4 different substances. Experiment was planned and analysised as factorial design with two replication. Data has been converted with rootsquare transformation. Observations were continued during 42 days. Number oftubes in which callus, shoot and root formation occured, were found after observation. The immature embryos formed the highest callus (average 94 % ) on medium MS containing 2 mg/l 2,4-D + 1 mg/l kinetin. A Study Of The Flower Biology Of Different Rye Genotypes (S. Cereale L., S. Montanum Guss.), İlknur Akgün, Meti̇n Tosun, Sevi̇m Sağsöz

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, the pollen germination rate, pollen viability, pollen size, pollen production and anther length of rye (S. cereale L.) and the diploid and tetraploid of perennial rye (S. montanum Guss.) populations were examined. The highest pollen germination rate was obtained in 30 % sucrose, 5 ppm boric acid and 10 ppm calcium nitrate solution with all specimens. Furthermore, the lowest pollen size (length: 18.92 \mum; width: 15.26 \mum), pollen production per anther (19982) and anther length (7.39 mm), but the highest pollen germination rate (40.48 %) and pollen viability (94.93 %) were observed in diploid perennial rye.

In this study perlite, volcanic tuff and peat moss media were investigated for their possible use in mushroom production in aquaculture between 1994-1995. In mushroom feeding studies, 2% sucrose medium was found to be the most suitable solution for mushroom mycelium growth. Among the 6 different media each containing 2% sucrose, the effect of different rates of micro and macro elements were studied and mycelium growth was investigated. Assessment Of The Effects Of Rooted Offshoot Properties And Ga_3 Applications On The Yield Of The Globe Artichoke, Günnur Koçer, Beni̇an Eser

In this study, the effects of rooted offshoot properties and number of GA_3 applications, 30 ppm in concentration, on the early and total yield of the globe artichoke cv "Sakız", produced in one year, were tested. It was determined that when the offshoots, which were at the vegetative growth stage, were used in plantation, higher early and total yields were obtained than that of the generative growth stage. This positive result gained with offshoots at the vegetative stage was also improved significantly with all GA_3 applications, 30 ppm in concentration when compared with untreated plants. Clark’s nutcrackers, Nucifraga columbiana, store thousands of pine seeds during the autumn and retrieve them throughout the winter. It has been shown that these birds are able to use visual cues to relocate hidden food in the laboratory. In this set of experiments, we trained three groups of Clark’s nutcrackers to find a hidden food goal that was placed in the same spatial location relative to the testing room. Clark’s nutcrackers regularly store large numbers of pine seeds and remember the locations of the cached seeds. Although they are very accurate, they do make some errors during recovery. In an attempt to determine whether any behaviours during caching predicted the occurrence of errors during recovery, we videotaped Clark’s nutcrackers while they cached and recovered seeds under laboratory conditions. We used the videotapes to develop complete, quantitative descriptions of caching and recovery behaviour, with an emphasis on body orientation and directions of movement. We trained Clark’s nutcrackers, Nucifraga columbiana, to search halfway between two landmarks while varying the distance between the landmarks (Kamil & Jones 1997). We found that the birds learned the problem readily and generalized to novel interlandmark distances within the range of distances used during training. Unlike some other studies in which responses to proportional distance were obtained (e.g. O’Keefe & Burgess 1996; Tommasi et al. 1997), the nutcrackers showed very precise search and maintained this precision during the transfer test.
