Selection For Test Weight And Kernel Weight In High Yielding Wheat Using A Safety-First Index, Emre İlker, Meti̇n Altinbaş, Muzaffer Tosun

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Five breeding lines and 4 cultivars were grown in replicated trials at 1 location in 1999-2000 and 2 locations in 2000-2001 cropping seasons in İzmir in order to determine the usefulness of a safety-first selection index in making selection among high yielding wheat genotypes for test weight and thousand-kernel weight. Genotype × environment interactions were significant for these 2 quality traits. The regression coefficient (b_i) of genotypes, variance (Si_i^2) of a genotype across environments, and a safety-first index (I_i) were calculated to evaluate the stability of genotypes for test weight and thousand-kernel weights. Wheat genotypes with lower bi values and …

Effects Of Different Irrigation Programs On The Growth, Yield, And Fruit Quality Of Drip-Irrigated Melon, Osman Yildirim, Ni̇lgün Halloran, Şeyda Çavuşoğlu, Nesli̇han Şengül Jan 2009

Effects Of Different Irrigation Programs On The Growth, Yield, And Fruit Quality Of Drip-Irrigated Melon, Osman Yildirim, Ni̇lgün Halloran, Şeyda Çavuşoğlu, Nesli̇han Şengül

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

A field study was conducted in Ankara, a semi-arid region of Central Anatolia, Turkey, on clay-loamy soils in the vegetation seasons of 2005 and 2006. Kırkağaç melon cultivar (Cucumis melo L. cv. Kırkağaç) was irrigated by the drip method from transplantation to the beginning of the flowering (IS_f), fruit setting (IS_{fs}), ripening (IS_r), and harvesting (IS_h) periods. Water amounting to 50% (P_{50}), 75% (P_{75}), and 100% (P_{100}) of full irrigation water were applied. Some analyses were carried out regarding the growth, yield, and fruit quality parameters in these irrigation programs. Moreover, the amount of water, the seasonal evapotranspiration, and the …

Effects Of Potassium, Magnesium, And Sulphur Containing Fertilizers On Yield And Quality Of Sugar Beets (Beta Vulgaris L.), Mehmet Zengi̇n, Fatma Gökmen, M. Ati̇lla Yazici, Sai̇t Gezgi̇n Jan 2009

Effects Of Potassium, Magnesium, And Sulphur Containing Fertilizers On Yield And Quality Of Sugar Beets (Beta Vulgaris L.), Mehmet Zengi̇n, Fatma Gökmen, M. Ati̇lla Yazici, Sai̇t Gezgi̇n

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Effects of potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), and sulphur (S) containing fertilizers on root yield, refined sugar yield, and K, Mg, and S concentrations of leaf of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) were studied on 3 different locations in Konya province, namely Kuzucu, Karaarslan, and Alakova, in 2004, 2005, and 2006. In the trails, a uniform diammonium phosphate (DAP) + urea application was used as the control treatment, while potassium sulphate and Mg containing Kalimagnesia, were applied at varying rate combinations. Compared to the control treatment (DAP + urea), all fertilizer treatments containing K, Mg, and S increased root yield in …
