Different Irrigation Rates Effect On The Yield And Quality Of Greenhouse Cultivated Platycodon Grandiflorum Crops Considering Transpiration, Jia Liu, Xuecan Li, Yuanyuan Sui, Haiye Yu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Abstract: The consumption of agricultural water resources is enormous, and in the face of water scarcity, optimizing the utilization rate of water resources is urgent. As a common medicinal plant, the planting area of platycodon grandiflorus crops has increased. Therefore, in order to maximize the yield and quality of platycodon crops, different irrigation treatment methods are developed based on their evaporation capacity, and the impact of different irrigation amounts on platycodon crops is explored. Different irrigation amounts affect multiple indicators of the platycodon plant. The experimental results indicated that for the daily transpiration of the platycodon plant, 120% irrigation was …

Different Doses Of Cadmium In Soil Negatively Impact Growth, Plant Mineral Homeostasis And Antioxidant Defense Of Mung Bean Plants, Fahad Mohammed Alzuaibr Aug 2023

Different Doses Of Cadmium In Soil Negatively Impact Growth, Plant Mineral Homeostasis And Antioxidant Defense Of Mung Bean Plants, Fahad Mohammed Alzuaibr

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Heavy metal (HM) pollution of soil has become a gigantic issue across the globe. Metals enter the food chain and cause problems in plants, animals, and humans. We performed this work to evaluate the impacts of different cadmium (Cd) levels on growth, physiology, mineral nutrition, and yield attributes of Vigna radiata. Changes in growth fund are statistically significant and directly linked with an increase in Cd doses. Various concentrations of cadmium exhibited significant (p ≤ 0.05) vicissitudes in biochemical parameters such as in the contents of chlorophyll, amino acids, soluble proteins, and total soluble sugars in experimental plants. The shoot …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Clonal selection in viticulture is based on genetic variability with the aim of creating superior plants (clones) that enable more economical production. The Riesling variety, with a long tradition of cultivation, has been the subject of extensive clonal selection and clones 49, 1089 and 1091 were created in France. During the two-year period (2016-2017), the productivity and oenological potential of Riesling clones 49, 1089 and 1091 in the agroclimatic conditions of Bosnia and Herzegovina were conducted. Significant differences between clones were found in the yield per vine (1.34-1.87 kg), ten skins weight (2.17-2.46 g) and mass of ten berries seeds …

Prunus Microcarpa: A Potential Rootstock For Apricots, Remzi̇ Uğur

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

One of the most important developments in the history of fruit growing is the discovery and use of dwarf rootstocks. Today, dwarf rootstock studies continue in different fruit species including apricot. The main goal of this study was to identify new dwarfing rootstocks for apricots that limit apricot tree height and size, without altering scion production or fruit characteristics. In this study, `Hacıhaliloğlu', `Hasanbey', `Kabaaşı', and `Roxana' apricot cultivars grafted on Prunus microcarpa - a potential rootstock for apricot - were investigated. Phenological, morphological, yield, and quality traits of apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) cultivars grafted on Prunus microcarpa seedlings and …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Peppermint, Mentha piperita L. belonging to the Lamiaceae family, contains a valuable essential oil known for its high menthol and menthone content. During the vegetation seasons of 2016 and 2017, field studies were conducted in Turkey?s Isparta climate by using randomized blocks to examine the yield and oil composition of the new peppermint cultivars. In these studies, Multimentha produced the highest herb yield even though the quality of its essential oil is relatively poor due to its low menthol content. Yield levels of other cultivars were similar to each other with the same statistical group. In the study, Citaro, Tokat …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Maize (Zea mays L.) is an important cereal crop around the globe. Scarcity of water is one of the major abiotic factors reducing yields in this crop. The development of maize varieties with stress-tolerant traits is time-consuming and laborious work. There is a strong need to develop techniques that could have the effect of reducing irrigation requirements and mitigating waterstress conditions. Biopriming (seed priming with bacterial inoculation) is a newly emerging, simple, and easily adaptable strategy to mitigate drought stress for enhanced crop production. The current trial was executed using a randomized complete block design with factorial arrangements during the …

The Applicability Of New Training Systems For Sweet Cherry In Turkey, Di̇lek Soysal, Leyla Demi̇rsoy, İdri̇s Maci̇t, Gregory Lang, Hüsnü Demi̇rsoy

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The use of training systems for cherry trees is significantly important, as they form the basis of future shoots, which are potential producers of fruits. Numerous studies have been carried out on training systems for cherries around the world. It is well known that new training systems result in a shorter fruiting time and ease mechanical operations, such as harvesting and pruning. Unfortunately, new systems have never been tried for sweet cherry in Turkey. This study was aimed at determining the effect of different training systems, such as tall spindle axe (TSA), super spindle axe (SSA), upright fruiting offshoots (UFO), …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The genetic relationships among 48 melon (Cucumis melo L.) genotypes collected from various parts of Azerbaijan were determined by comparing their phenotypic and molecular traits. Eleven agromorphological traits and 10 polymorphic inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) primers were used to define the genetic diversity. Principal component analysis grouped the agromorphological traits into the first four axes, describing 78% of the total variations. The highest genetic variation coefficient was found for yield per hectare (20.32%) and for fruit length (17.35%). Calculated heritability for yield was 0.96. The analysis of morphological traits grouped the accessions into four clusters. The 10 ISSR primers yielded …

In this experiment, 100 ppm gibberellic acid (GA3) was applied to Memecik olive trees in the middle of June in the `on' (bearing) year to research the effects on yield, reducing sugar amount, and endogenous hormones with the purpose of bearing fruit regularly. The yield was 19.33 kg/tree in control plants and 17.33 kg/tree in GA3-treated plants in the `on' year. The yield was 7.17 kg/tree in GA3-treated plants and 4.00 kg/tree in control plants in the 'off' year. While GA3 treatment was not very effective on the decrease of fruit amount in the `on' year, it increased fruit amount …

The rootstock potential of 21 bottle gourds (Lagenaria siceraria) collected from the Mediterranean region (Turkey) was investigated for watermelon with regard to plant growth, yield, and fruit quality. The Crimson Tide watermelon cultivar was used as a scion and 2 commercial rootstocks (L. siceraria) were also used for comparison. In greenhouse conditions, the survival rate of grafted plants and the effect of rootstocks on plant growth were determined. The grafted plants were planted under low tunnels in early spring and the effects of the rootstocks on early yield, total yield, and fruit quality were evaluated. The survival rates of the …
