Effects Of Low-Pressure Electrostatic Field-Assisted Freezing At Different Field Strengths On The Quality Of Sea Buckthorn Leaves, Xiaoyue Dong, Tongliga Dong, Jinwei Te, Xiukuan Wang, Qian Hao, Meishu Miao, Xueyan Yun Sep 2025

Effects Of Low-Pressure Electrostatic Field-Assisted Freezing At Different Field Strengths On The Quality Of Sea Buckthorn Leaves, Xiaoyue Dong, Tongliga Dong, Jinwei Te, Xiukuan Wang, Qian Hao, Meishu Miao, Xueyan Yun

Journal of Food Science and Biotechnology

[Objective ] This study aimed to investigate the effects of different freezing preservation techniques on the quality of sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides ) leaves.[Method ] A low-voltage electrostatic field (LVEF ) pretreatment was applied during the freezing process of sea buckthorn leaves, and its effects on freezing characteristics and bioactive compound retention were evaluated.Field strengths at 0,20,40,and 60 cm from the discharge plate were compared with conventional freezing in terms of freezing rate, water loss rate, bioactive compound retention rate, and antioxidant activity of sea buckthorn leaves. The optimized and conventionally frozen leaves were subsequently used to prepare sea buckthorn leaf yogurt, with plain yogurt (NY) …

Mechanisms Of Antioxidant Activity Of Lactic Acid Bacteria And Its Application In Oxidative Stress-Related Diseases, Yixiao Shao, Chuang Huang, Chenjian Liu, Xiaoran Li Jul 2025

Mechanisms Of Antioxidant Activity Of Lactic Acid Bacteria And Its Application In Oxidative Stress-Related Diseases, Yixiao Shao, Chuang Huang, Chenjian Liu, Xiaoran Li

Journal of Food Science and Biotechnology

The antioxidant properties of lactic acid bacteria are related to various probiotic activities, which can prevent and alleviate a variety of chronic diseases caused by oxidation in the host. The antioxidant mechanisms of lactic acid bacteria, including the action mechanisms of antioxidant enzymes and non-enzymatic antioxidants and regulation of host signaling pathways, were expounded.Furthermore, the application status of antioxidant properties of lactic acid bacteria in diseases of the nervous system, digestive system, and skin system were summarized. The aim is to explore how to enhance the antioxidant activity of lactic acid bacteria in oxidative stress-related diseases and give new insights into the development of related treatment strategies.

Evaluation Of Free Radical Scavenging  Activity Of Sauce And Formulation Of Tamarindus Indica (L.) And Prunus Domestica (L.) Fruits, Zulnoreen Sarfaraz, Mehmooda Munazir, Mubashrah Munir, Asma Ahmed, Rehana Badar, Ayesha Tahir Mar 2023

Evaluation Of Free Radical Scavenging  Activity Of Sauce And Formulation Of Tamarindus Indica (L.) And Prunus Domestica (L.) Fruits, Zulnoreen Sarfaraz, Mehmooda Munazir, Mubashrah Munir, Asma Ahmed, Rehana Badar, Ayesha Tahir

Journal of Bioresource Management

The formulation and sauce of Tamarindus indica  (L.) and Prusnus  dometica (L.) are very popular recipes across globe. But, not even a single study existed on free-radical scavenging activity (FRSA) of afore-mentioned recipes. So, the present study was designed to bridge this gap of information. The FRSA of individual samples were also determined and compared with that of combinations of both. The highest value for FRSA among all samples was that of T. indica (158.9732 ± 12.658 % at 100 μg ml-1). It was followed by that of individual extract of P. domestica fruit (96.647 ± 0.554 %). …

Exopolysaccharide From Mycelium Of Ganoderma Lucidum As A Potential Additive For Juvenile Red Hybrid Tilapia (Oreochromis Sp.), Pajaru Rahman Janathu Ferdaus Jul 2020

Exopolysaccharide From Mycelium Of Ganoderma Lucidum As A Potential Additive For Juvenile Red Hybrid Tilapia (Oreochromis Sp.), Pajaru Rahman Janathu Ferdaus

Student Works (2020-2029)

Functional feed additives are added during feed preparation to improve the growth performance and cellular defense for the fishes. Interaction of cellular biomolecules and dysfunction of red hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) could be avoided by strengthening the antioxidant defense with antioxidant rich sources. As for this, a bioactive polysaccharide of Ganoderma lucidum was found to have its antioxidant bioactivities. Thus the potential of exopolysaccharide (EPS) extracted from the mycelium of G.lucidum as feed additive for red hybrid tilapia was evaluated in this research. In this experiment, one hundred twenty (120) juveniles were randomly divided into four groups and designated with …

Fermented Mycelial Biomass Of Ganoderma Lucidum As A Potential Additive For Juvenile Red Hybrid Tilapia (Oreochromis Sp.), Subramaniam Kumeera Jul 2020

Fermented Mycelial Biomass Of Ganoderma Lucidum As A Potential Additive For Juvenile Red Hybrid Tilapia (Oreochromis Sp.), Subramaniam Kumeera

Student Works (2020-2029)

The presence of antibiotic compounds in aquaculture is gaining higher interest worldwide due to the emergence as dangerous pollutants of the environment and to human health. However, feed additive play an important role in agriculture to reduce the usage of antibiotics and aquaculture productive performance. Therefore, the polysaccharide produced by Ganoderma lucidum is recognised due to its essential biological activities. Growing biomass from mycelium of Ganoderma lucidum (MGL) through submerged liquid fermentation (SLF) has been a fast and straightforward alternative compared to fruiting bodies. The study aims to observe the inclusion of biomass from MGL as a dietary supplement on …

Vegetables as an essential component of the human diet usually undergo some type of processing before being consumed. In the present study, impact of microwave (MW) processing on various physiochemical properties of York cabbage was studied. York cabbage was processed at 400, 560 and 800W for 0 to 14 min with an increment of 2 min followed by a kinetic study for the degradation of polyphenols, flavonoids, antioxidant capacity, colour and texture were carried out. Results showed that MW processing leads to significant reductions in the texture, colour, polyphenols and antioxidant capacity. For all the MW processing power studied total …
