Las Halictinae, especialmente en los zonas templadas, forman uno de los grupos más grandes de abejas silvestres, y son de interés biológico especial en cuanto al importante papel que juegan en la polinización de las plantas. Ninguna abeja de este género es grande y en su mayoría son pequeñas. Al-gunas són de color colorado brillante pero la mayor parte carece de adornos. Las alas anteriores tienen el estigma muy desarrollado, dos ó tres células submarginales y la vena basal muy encorvada. Il y a moins d'un demi-siècle, l'on ignorait encore complètement l'histoire du développement des Mylabres, et leurs formes larvaires étaient totalement inconnues. C'est seulement en 1876 que Valéry MAYET (Sur les triongulins des Mylabres, Ann. Soc. ent. Fr. [1876], Bull., p. 196) donna les premières indications sur ce sujet et décrivit sommairement la larve primaire d'un de ces insectes, le Zonabris quadripunctata L., mais sa découverte passa à peu près inaperçue.

Schwarz. Kopf rund, Augenrander nach unten schwach verjungt. Clypens ungefahr 1 1/2 mal so lang wie breit, eben, auBerordentlich fein lederartig gerunzelt und auBerdem zerstreut und flach eingestochen punktiert. Wangen sehr fein langsgerieft und zerstreut punktiert, ungefleckt, das Gesicht also ganz schwarz. Augenfurchen bis zur Hohe des oberen Augenrandes reichend. Stirn sehr dicht und fein, Scheitel zerstreut punktiert. FuhlergeiBel unterseits rotbraun bei einem Stuck die letzten Glieder etwas dunkler.

The acreage given over to the production of alfalfa seed is rapidly increasing in Idaho because of the widespread interest throughout the east in growing alfalfa as a forage crop, the growing demand of eastern farmers for high-grade seed, and the higher prices obtainable since the beginning of the world war. In growing alfalfa farmers have discovered thru experience and heavy losses at times that it is more profitable to plant high-grade than inferior seed.
