Biota Of Magazine Mountain (Ii): A Preliminary List Of The Macrolepidoptera Fauna, Robert T. Allen, Richard L. Brown
Biota Of Magazine Mountain (Ii): A Preliminary List Of The Macrolepidoptera Fauna, Robert T. Allen, Richard L. Brown
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
Collections during the past three years have demonstrated a large and diverse Lepidoptera fauna on Magazine Mountain, Logan County, Arkansas. During the study, over 5,000 specimens were collected at ten different localities on the mountain. To date, 274 species of macromoths have been identified. Twenty-six of these species are new state records while four of the taxa appear to be new species. Localities and the approximate dates when the specimens were collected are reported.

Life History Studies, Host Records, And Morphological Description Of Genitalia Of Eurytoma Tylodermatis Ashm. (Hymenoptera : Eurytomidae) From South Dakota, Burruss Mcdaniel, Arvid A. Boe
Life History Studies, Host Records, And Morphological Description Of Genitalia Of Eurytoma Tylodermatis Ashm. (Hymenoptera : Eurytomidae) From South Dakota, Burruss Mcdaniel, Arvid A. Boe
Native Plant Focused Publications
Eurytoma tylodermatis Ashm. was found to be parasitic on Acanthoscelides perforatus (Horn) in seed pods of Canada milk- vetch {Astragalus canadensis L.). Observations on larval behavior and frequency of parasitism are discussed. Male and female genitalia of E. tylodermatis are illustrated.

A New Bruchophagus From Glycyrrhiza Lepidota Pursh In The Northern Great Plains (Hymenoptera : Chalcidoidea : Eurytomidae), Burruss Mcdaniel, Arvid A. Boe
Native Plant Focused Publications
A new species, Bruchophagus grisselli McDaniel and Boe, which infests seeds of Glycyrrhiza lepidota Pursh (American licorice), is described and illustrated. It's known from South Dakota and North Dakota in the USA. A field study at 8 sites showed that B. grisselli has a wide distribution throughout the Dakotas.
Biota Of Magazine Mountain (I): An Outline Of The Natural History Of Magazine Mountain, Robert T. Allen
Biota Of Magazine Mountain (I): An Outline Of The Natural History Of Magazine Mountain, Robert T. Allen
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
One plant and five invertebrate species are thought to be endemic to Magazine Mountain, Logan County, Arkansas. The mountain is the highest point in the Interior Highlands reaching 2,753 feet. Previous studies have recorded over 650 species of plants including (or in addition to) 27 fern species. The animal fauna is less well known. It is suggested that an inventory of the biota of the mountain could be completed within the foreseeable future. It is further suggested that such an inventory would be useful in answering questions relevant to understanding the evolution and biogeography of selected taxa in North America. …
Feeding Responses Of Chilo Partellus (Swinhoe) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) Larvae To Sorghum Plant Phenolics And Their Analogs, Baldwyn Torto, Ahmed Hassanali, Kailash N. Saxena, Sagary Nokoe
Feeding Responses Of Chilo Partellus (Swinhoe) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) Larvae To Sorghum Plant Phenolics And Their Analogs, Baldwyn Torto, Ahmed Hassanali, Kailash N. Saxena, Sagary Nokoe
All Peer-Reviewed Publications
Phagostimulatory responses of third-instar larvae of Chilo Partellus to phenolic components identified in an ethyl acetate extract of the leaf whorls of 3-week-old plants of Sorghum bicolor cultivar IS 18363 were studied in no-choice bioassays. The major components in the extract were identified as 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, with 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid, 3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid, and 4-hydroxycinnamic acid present in minor amounts. All but 4-hydroxycinnamic acid were stimulatory at the doses tested. 4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde was more stimulatory than other potential biogenetic analogs. Hydroxybenzoic acids generally elicited greater feeding response than cinnamic acids, and the pattern of oxygen substitution in the benzene ring was …
Mechanisms Of Resistance In Wild Rice Oryza Brachyantha To Rice Leaffolder Cnaphalocrocis Medinalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), R. Ramachandran, Z. R. Khan
Mechanisms Of Resistance In Wild Rice Oryza Brachyantha To Rice Leaffolder Cnaphalocrocis Medinalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), R. Ramachandran, Z. R. Khan
All Peer-Reviewed Publications
A wild rice, Oryza brachyantha, was rated as highly resistant to rice leaffolder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée), while its F1 hybrid from a cross with a high-yielding, leaffolder-susceptible rice, IR31917-45-3-2, was rated resistant in a standard screening test. In comparison with IR31917-45-3-2, O. brachyantha and the F1 hybrid were unsuitable for oviposition, survival, and growth of C. medinalis. However, growth and survival of larvae in artificial diets containing lyophilized leaf powder of IR31917-45-3-2 and O. brachyantha were comparable. Studies on the feeding and settling preference of the larval stages suggested that the mechanism of resistance of O. brachyantha is that of …
Enhancement Of Diapause Development In A Stem Borer, Busseola Fusca (Lep.: Noctuidae) By Dry Conditions, Takashi Okuda
Enhancement Of Diapause Development In A Stem Borer, Busseola Fusca (Lep.: Noctuidae) By Dry Conditions, Takashi Okuda
All Peer-Reviewed Publications
Water was an important factor for diapause termination only during the late stage of the diapause in Busseola fusca. Exposure to dry conditions for 2 months accelerated diapause development more. Diapause development proceeded at warm temperatures only. © 1991, JAPANESE SOCIETY OF APPLIED ENTOMOLOGY AND ZOOLOGY. All rights reserved.

Volatiles from banana ('githumo''cultivar) pseudostem were trapped using porapak S. The trapped volatiles were desorbed from porapak columns by elution with dichloromethane and analysed using GC and GC-MS. The volatile compounds identified included α-pinene, β-pinene, β-myrcene, limonene, α-cubebene, α-copaene, α-cedrene, β-caryophyllene and α-humulene. © 1992.

Pesticide Use On Crops In Nebraska - 1987, Maurice Baker, Nancy Peterson, Shripat T. Kamble
Pesticide Use On Crops In Nebraska - 1987, Maurice Baker, Nancy Peterson, Shripat T. Kamble
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
This is the third and most comprehensive study of pesticide use on crops in Nebraska. The first was completed in 1978 and the second one in 1982. The first study indicated that approximately 25 million pounds (11.34 million kg) of active ingredients were used on the major crops in Nebraska. This increased to approximately 30.2 million pounds (13.7 million kg) in 1982. The USDA requires accurate information to meet their responsibilities. Thus, this survey was undertaken to determine: 1) the use of pesticides on crops, pasture and rangeland and 2) to identify pest management practices.
