Estimated Growth And Standing Crop Of Largemouth Bass (Micropterus Salmoides) From Lake Elmdale, Alex Zdinak Jr., Raj V. Kilambi, Marvin L. Galloway, John E. Mcclanahan, Clark Duffe
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
Electro-fishing gear was used to make shoreline population estimates of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoldes) in Lake Elmdale, Washington County, Arkansas, during September 1979. The population density was estimated to be 1541 bass/Km² with a standing crop of 30.4 kg/ha. The length-weight relationship was calculated as W = 0.00001 504L^2.97, and the total length-scale radius relationship as L = 41.75 + 1.23 St. The average condition coefficient(K) was 1.31. In comparison with four other Arkansas lakes the population density of largemouth bass was highest in Lake Elmdale while the growth rate was lowest.

Systematic Status Of The Fishes Of Genus Campostoma (Cyprinidae) Inhabiting The Major Drainages Of Northern Arkansas, Stephen A. Sewell, John K. Beadles, V. Rick Mcdaniel
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
A total of 6980 morphometric and meristic data points were analyzed from specimens previously identified as Campostoma anomalum pullum and Compostoma oligolepis from all areas of their Ozark ranges in Arkansas. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and IBM 370 Computer System (HASP II). An attempt was made to establish separation points through multivariate analysis (MANOVA) by taxon and watershed. Additional analyses included factor analysis and discriminant function analysis. Scale count frequencies were analyzed using computer program MINITAB. MANOVA revealed a lack of consistent separation points, and Ozark populations were shown to be distinct and highly variable …

Variation In Pappogeomys Castanops (Geomyidae) On The Llano Estacado Of Texas And New Mexico, Robert C. Dowler, Hugh H. Genoways
University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
Nongeographic and geographic variation in the yellow-cheeked pocket gopher, Pappogeomys castanops, were analyzed in specimens collected in northwestern Texas and eastern New Mexico. Univariate and multivariate methods of analysis were utilized to assess variation in morphometric characters among 12 samples of P. castanops. Because of significant variation with age, only adult specimens were used in analyses. Adult males were significantly larger than females in all 13 characters studied. Our analyses of geographic variation reveal that those specimens previously assigned to the subspecies P. c. simulans are not sufficiently distinct to warrant subspecific designation.

Structure Of A Subtidal Benthic Community Near Cape Charles, Virginia, R. Michael Ewing
Structure Of A Subtidal Benthic Community Near Cape Charles, Virginia, R. Michael Ewing
Biological Sciences Theses & Dissertations
Species composition, distribution, and abundance of benthic invertebrates of a subtidal community were examined at a location on the lower Delmarva Peninsula near Cape Charles, Virginia. Macrobenthos was sampled quarterly between June, 1977 and June, 1978 at nine sites along a transect in Old Plantation Creek and the adjacent offshore area. Spatial and temporal patterns of numerically important species are discussed.
Sampling sites and species were grouped by a numerical classification strategy which consisted of the Bray-Curtis similarity measure and group-average clustering. Three faunal assemblages were identified with the aid of constancy and fidelity nodal analyses: (1) a tidal creek …
Records Of Bats (Mammalia: Chiroptera) From Suriname, Hugh H. Genoways, Stephen L. Williams
Records Of Bats (Mammalia: Chiroptera) From Suriname, Hugh H. Genoways, Stephen L. Williams
University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
Ten species are added to the 60 species of bats already known to occur in Suriname. The species added include Micronycteris minuta, M. nicefori, Phylloderma stenops, Tonatia bidens, T. brasiliense, Carollia brevicauda, Chiroderma trinitatum, Vampyressa bidens, Promops centralis, and P. nasutus. Additional information is presented on five species previously recorded from Suriname, including Pteronotus parnellii, Mimon crenulatum, Artibeus concolor, Chiroderma villosum, and Sturnira tildae.

Homeless Cats And Dogs Are Suffering And Dying
Homeless Cats And Dogs Are Suffering And Dying
Close Up Reports
Last year more than 13 million homeless cats and dogs were euthanized at humane societies and municipal animal shelters. As a statistic, 13 million may be meaningless. But think of it another way. Think of the 13 million as individual animals with individual personalities--each with their own beating heart, each with their own wretched story of how they found their way to the animal shelter. Each one was an individual breathing creature whose life was ended because there was no home to go to.
