A New Approach To The Potential Energy Of Solids, Radhika Chauhan, Sanjeev K. Verma, Anushri Gupta, Anita Kumari, B. D. Indu
A New Approach To The Potential Energy Of Solids, Radhika Chauhan, Sanjeev K. Verma, Anushri Gupta, Anita Kumari, B. D. Indu
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
A general theory is developed to investigate the expression for potential energy without using (i) empirical results and (ii) process of parameterizing. The simple approach of thermodynamics is adopted to obtain the expressions for the interaction energy of solids in terms of interatomic separation and crystal volume. The new findings have been applied to obtain the expressions for bulk modulus and pressure. The variation of the potential energy function, which provides a means to understand the stability of a crystal has been found in excellent agreements to the earlier results. The use of obtained harmonic and anharmonic force constants may …

Closed Form Solutions Of Unsteady Two Fluid Flow In A Tube, J. Liu, C. Y. Wang
Closed Form Solutions Of Unsteady Two Fluid Flow In A Tube, J. Liu, C. Y. Wang
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
Exact closed form solutions for the mathematical model of unsteady two fluid flow in a circular tube are presented. The pressure gradient is assumed to be oscillatory or exponentially increasing or decreasing in time. The instantaneous velocity prof iles and flow rates depend on the size of the core fluid, the density ratio, the viscosity ratio, and a parameter (e.g. the Womersley number) quantifying time changes. Applications include blood flow in small vessels.
The Effects Of Organic And Inorganic Nanoparticles On Bacterial Deactivation, Lauren Cooper
The Effects Of Organic And Inorganic Nanoparticles On Bacterial Deactivation, Lauren Cooper
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Antibacterial resistance is one of the greatest problems in modern medicine, as healthcare professionals are experiencing more and more difficulty in providing effective care. As such, alternative methods of treatment are needed in order to overcome this issue. One recently proposed method of alternative treatment is photodynamic therapy. Photodynamic therapy is a light-based method of treatment that utilizes (1) a photosensitizing agent, (2) light, (3) produced oxygen species. When the photosensitizing agent is injected into an infected region of interest and then irradiated with a certain wavelength of light, the agent is photoactivated and begins to produce harmful forms of …

Memory Formation In Matter, Joseph Paulsen, Nathan C. Keim, Zorana Zeravcic, Srikanth Sastry, Sidney R. Nagel
Physics - All Scholarship
Memory formation in matter is a theme of broad intellectual relevance; it sits at the interdisciplinary crossroads of physics, biology, chemistry, and computer science. Memory connotes the ability to encode, access, and erase signatures of past history in the state of a system. Once the system has completely relaxed to thermal equilibrium, it is no longer able to recall aspects of its evolution. The memory of initial conditions or previous training protocols will be lost. Thus many forms of memory are intrinsically tied to far-from-equilibrium behavior and to transient response to a perturbation. This general behavior arises in diverse contexts …

This study investigated the effects of selenized DC sputtered precursor stacking orders on the structural, electrical and optical properties of copper zinc tin selenide (CZTSe) absorber layer for thin film solar cells. The precursors were deposited sequentially on the soda lime glass substrate at room temperature by DC magnetron sputtering. The precursors were selenized by annealing in an atmosphere containing selenium pellets and nitrogen gas. The structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties were respectively characterized using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), UV/VIS/NIR lambda 9/19 spectrophotometer, Hall Effect measurement system (HMS 3000) and a four point probe system. CZTSe …
Effects Of Thickness Variation In The Multilayer Thin Film On The Performance Of Eta Solar Cell, Robinson J Musembi
Effects Of Thickness Variation In The Multilayer Thin Film On The Performance Of Eta Solar Cell, Robinson J Musembi
Tanzania Journal of Science
A highly structured eta solar cell of the type TiO2/In(OH)xSy/Pb(OH)xSy/PEDOT:PSS/Au with different layer thickness has been fabricated using various deposition techniques for each layer in the stack. The solar cell parameters, Uoc, FF and have been extracted from current- voltage characteristics measurements. The buffer layer and the hole collector layer have been kept constant while the window and the absorber layer have been varied. The thickness of either of the two layers being varied has been observed to affect the performance of the solar cells. The difference in thickness has been attributed to affect the charge lifetime in the space …

Generating High-Order Optical And Spin Harmonics From Ferromagnetic Monolayers, G.P. Zhang, M.S. Si, M. Murakami, Y.H. Bai, Thomas George
Chemistry & Biochemistry Faculty Works
High-order harmonic generation (HHG) in solids has entered a new phase of intensive research, with envisioned band-structure mapping on an ultrashort time scale. This partly benefits from a flurry of new HHG materials discovered, but so far has missed an important group. HHG in magnetic materials should have profound impact on future magnetic storage technology advances. Here we introduce and demonstrate HHG in ferromagnetic monolayers. We find that HHG carries spin information and sensitively depends on the relativistic spin–orbit coupling; and if they are dispersed into the crystal momentum k space, harmonics originating from real transitions can be k-resolved and …

Vertex Sliding Drives Intercalation By Radial Coupling Of Adhesion And Actomyosin Networks During Drosophila Germband Extension, Timothy E. Vanderleest, Celia M. Smits, Yi Xie, Cayla E. Jewett, J Todd Blankenship, Dinah Loerke
Biological Sciences: Faculty Scholarship
Oriented cell intercalation is an essential developmental process that shapes tissue morphologies through the directional insertion of cells between their neighbors. Previous research has focused on properties of cell–cell interfaces, while the function of tricellular vertices has remained unaddressed. Here, we identify a highly novel mechanism in which vertices demonstrate independent sliding behaviors along cell peripheries to produce the topological deformations responsible for intercalation. Through systematic analysis, we find that the motion of vertices connected by contracting interfaces is not physically coupled, but instead possess strong radial coupling. E-cadherin and Myosin II exist in previously unstudied populations at cell …
Study Of The Visual Adaptation Mechanism In Marine Species With The Change Of Habitation Depth., Demid Osipov, Daniil Moshnikov
Study Of The Visual Adaptation Mechanism In Marine Species With The Change Of Habitation Depth., Demid Osipov, Daniil Moshnikov
The International Student Science Fair 2018
The goal of our work was to determine the principal mechanisms that provide the difference in visual perception of two marine species that live on different depths: T. Pacificus and O. Vulgaris. In nature, visual perception of species that live deeper is shifted towards the blue region. This is related to the fact that red, orange and yellow light is absorbed more strongly by water than the blue light. On the other hand, the visual perception spectrum of an animal is determined by the absorption spectrum of the "light sensor" located in rods and cones of its eye retina. These …

Slip And Chemical Reaction Effects On Peristaltic Transport Of A Cou-Ple Stress Fluid Through A Permeable Medium With Complaint Wall, Gurunath Sankad, Mallinath Dhange
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In the present article, the effects of slip and homogeneous-heterogeneous chemical reaction on peristaltic pumping of a couple stress fluid through a permeable medium with complaint wall is studied as a model for transport phenomena occurring in the small intestine of human beings during digestion process. The mean effective coefficient of dispersion on simultaneous homo-geneous, heterogeneous chemical reactions has been derived through long wavelength assump-tion, and conditions of Taylor’s limit. The behaviors of key parameters on the mean effective dispersion coefficient have been examined through the graphs. It is found that slip and wall pa-rameters, and amplitude ratio favor the …

Radical Social Ecology As Deep Pragmatism: A Call To The Abolition Of Systemic Dissonance And The Minimization Of Entropic Chaos, Arielle Brender
Student Theses 2015-Present
This paper aims to shed light on the dissonance caused by the superimposition of Dominant Human Systems on Natural Systems. I highlight the synthetic nature of Dominant Human Systems as egoic and linguistic phenomenon manufactured by a mere portion of the human population, which renders them inherently oppressive unto peoples and landscapes whose wisdom were barred from the design process. In pursuing a radical pragmatic approach to mending the simultaneous oppression and destruction of the human being and the earth, I highlight the necessity of minimizing entropic chaos caused by excess energy expenditure, an essential feature of systems that aim …
