The Determination Of Clomiphene Citrate And Tamoxifen In Human Blood Plasma And Semen, Janice Irene Kiss Jul 1990

The Determination Of Clomiphene Citrate And Tamoxifen In Human Blood Plasma And Semen, Janice Irene Kiss

Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses & Dissertations

Triphenylethylene antiestrogen compounds are used to stimulate ovulation in anovulary women and spermatogenesis in oligozoospermatic males. Clomiphene Citrate (CC) is given therapeuticaly as a mixture of the trans (E) and cis (Z) isomers. Each of these isomers has its own characteristic agonist-antagonist profiles. Only the trans form of Tamoxifen (T) is administered therapeutically.

HPLC methodologies were developed for the determination of CC and Tin human blood and seminal plasma. The methodologies involved extraction of the triphenylethylene compounds using hexane, followed by evaporation of the hexane under N2. The residue was then taken up in a volume of HPLC …

Simultaneous Determination Of 3-Methoxy-4-Hydroxyphenyl-Glycol, Homovanillic Acid, And 5-Hydroxyindoleacetic Acid In Plasma By High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Yung-Te Tseng Jul 1989

Simultaneous Determination Of 3-Methoxy-4-Hydroxyphenyl-Glycol, Homovanillic Acid, And 5-Hydroxyindoleacetic Acid In Plasma By High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Yung-Te Tseng

Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses & Dissertations

A rapid, reliable, and sensitive method for simultaneous determination of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), Homovanillic acid (HVA), and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5- HIAA) in plasma is described. The method is based on high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection. Samples were filtered with Amicon Centrifree micropartition systems and extracted with organic solvent before chromatography. Chromatographic separation of sample components was achieved isocratically in a C18 reverse-phase column. Quantitation was performed by measuring the peak height ratios of the sample components to an internal standard. Analytical recoveries ranged from 50.78 (SD 4.2%) to 67.94 (SD 3.28). Within-run coefficient of variations (CVs) ranged from 3.78 …

Investigation Of The Substrate Binding Site Of Nad Glycohydrolase In Human Seminal Plasma, Sau C. Cheung Apr 1983

Investigation Of The Substrate Binding Site Of Nad Glycohydrolase In Human Seminal Plasma, Sau C. Cheung

Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses & Dissertations

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide glycohydrolase (NADase) (E.C. 3.2.2.5) from human seminal plasma (HSP) was partially purified through a multistep purification procedure, including affinity chromatography on Amicon Red Matrex Gel A. The NADase activity was assayed by a fluorometric method with nicotinamide 1,N6 -ethenoadenine dinucleotide as the substrate. The enzymatic cleavage of etheno-NAD by NADase was accompanied by an eight-fold increase in fluorescence. This large increase in fluorescence provided a sensitive way to follow the rate of etheno-NAD hydrolysis.

NADase was found to be less specific for the purine moiety of NAD, since etheno-NAD was accepted as a substrate. The enzyme …

Correlation Between Glutathione Peroxidase Activity And Selenium Concentrations In Both Plasma And Erythrocytes, Agatha Dudzai Munyanyi Oct 1981

Correlation Between Glutathione Peroxidase Activity And Selenium Concentrations In Both Plasma And Erythrocytes, Agatha Dudzai Munyanyi

Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses & Dissertations

Plasma and erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase activities and selenium concentrations were determined for 38 apparently healthy female subjects. In addition, erythrocyte lead and plasma lead and iron concentrations were determined in each subject.

Effects of age, smoking, vitamin and mineral supplementation, use of caffeinated beverages and oral contraceptives on glutathione peroxidase activity were determined and interelement relationships were investigated using the one tailed t-test and Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficients
