The reproductive biology and postnatal development of Microtus rossiaemeridionalis were investigated based on field and laboratory observations. This vole preferred humid meadows, and its burrow was complex with several entrances. The breeding season of this species was between December and October, and lasted 11 months. Pregnancy lasted 20-21 days, and average litter size was 5. The first mating was observed in a captive female at an age of 35 days, and other females subsequently mated at 40, 42, 60, and 70 days. Pseudophoxinus Alii (Teleostei: Cyprinidae), A New Fish Species From The Antalya Region, Turkey, Fahretti̇n Küçük

Pseudophoxinus alii is a new species described from 3 water bodies (Aksu River, and Ilıca and Kömürcüler streams) in the Antalya region, Turkey. This new species is distinguished from other large-scaled species of Pseudophoxinus in having 41-44 scales in lateral series, commonly 14 predorsal vertebrae, and large eye diameter (26%-32% HL).

Seasonal Fluctuations In The Zooplankton Composition Of A Eutrophic Lake: Lake Marmara (Manisa, Turkey), Şükran Yildiz, Ahmet Altindağ, Mehmet Borga Ergönül
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Seasonal fluctuations in the zooplankton fauna of Lake Marmara were studied between spring 2001 and winter 2002. In all, 41 species, consisting of 29 Rotifera (81.99%), 8 Cladocera (12.88%), and 4 Copepoda (5.13%), were recorded. The dominant species in the lake were Keratella tecta (Rotifera), Bosmina longirostris (Cladocera), and Eucyclops serrulatus (Copepoda). According to the QBrachionus/Trichocerca index (6.08) used for the determination of trophic level, the lake was hypertrophic.

Distribution Of The Gekkonidae Species In Southeast Anatolia, Turkey, And New Localities, İsmai̇l Hakki Uğurtaş, Hi̇kmet Sami̇ Yildirimhan, Murat Sevi̇nç

The distribution of Gekkonidae in southeast Anatolia was examined. Specimens were caught during field excursions between 2000 and 2002. The localities of the samples are marked on the provided maps and the distribution of the species is explained. Some habitat and ecological features are also given. Hemidactylus turcicus (Linnaeus, 1758) was recorded for the first time in Şanlıurfa and its distribution extended towards eastern Turkey. In addition, we added new localities to the distribution range of Cyrtopodion scaber (Heyden, 1827), which was previously only known from Şanlıurfa.

This study is on the Decapoda Brachyura found in the Dardanelles, included in the Turkish Straits system. Samples of Brachyura were collected at different depths (0-40 m) at 5 stations chosen in the Dardanelles, using a set fishing net and scuba divers during 1998-1999. A total of 19 species belonging to the Brachyura was identified, and 12 of these are new records for the Dardanelles. However, Parthenope angulifrons Latreille, 1825 is reported from the Turkish Straits system for the first time.

The characteristic features and drawings of Dicranolasma giljarovi Silhavy, 1966, which is a new record for the harvest spider fauna of Turkey, are given. In addition, habitat, phenology and the geographical distribution of the species are presented. The specimens were collected from different parts of Turkey.

Gastropod Shell Species Occupied By Hermit Crabs (Anomura: Decapoda) Along The Turkish Coast Of The Aegean Sea, A. Suat Ateş, Tuncer Katağan, Ahmet Kocataş

This study aimed to describe the gastropod shell species inhabited by hermit crabs (Anomura: Decapoda) collected during investigations of the decapod fauna of the Turkish Aegean Sea coast. We documented 12 hermit crab species inhabiting 16 species of gastropod shells. The hermit crab, Pagurus anachoretus Risso, 1827, had the highest inhabitation frequency (IF), inhabiting 37.5% of all the samples collected. The gastropod shell most inhabited was Bittium latreillii (Payraudeau, 1826), which accounted for 66.7% of inhabited shells.

The Karyotype Of The Wild Boar Sus Scrofa Linnaeus, 1758 In Turkey (Mammalia: Artiodactyla), İrfan Albayrak, Si̇nan İnci̇

This study is based on the karyological analyses of 4 Sus scrofa specimens obtained from Kırıkkale province in 2003 and 2005. It is the first time that karyotypes of Turkish wild boar specimens were determined. The diploid chromosome number (2n) is 38 and number of autosomal arms (NFa) 60. Karyological data were compared to the relevant literature. The results showed that the Turkish wild boar is different from central and western continental European specimens having 36 chromosomes and is identical to the domestic pig, and ones from east and south-east Europe and the Mediterranean islands.

Food Composition Of The Marsh Frog, Rana Ridibunda Pallas, 1771, In Thrace, Keri̇m Çi̇çek, Ahmet Mermer

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the feeding habits of the marsh frog, Rana ridibunda, populations inhabiting Turkish Thrace. Analysis of the stomach contents of 53 (19 males, 34 females) adult individuals was performed. The frog diet consisted of a wide variety of arthropods; Diptera (42.62%) and Coleoptera (21.84%) were especially prominent. Aquatic forms did not contribute much to the frog diet. The prey items identified indicate that individuals of this species, like other ranids, are generalist opportunistic predators whose diet is most strongly influenced by prey availability.

This study was based on the records of baculum features, hair scale form, and karyotype of Taphozous nudiventris magnus. The baculum is a distinctive feature in separating this subspecies from T. n. kachhensis. Under the field conditions of the Gölbaşı district of Ankara, commercial preparations of VectoBac® 12 AS (aqueous suspension) and VectoBac® G (corn cob formulation), both based on Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (H-14), were tested against Anopheles sacharovi, An. maculipennis, Culex pipiens, and Cx. theileri larvae at the edge of a lake, a flood plain, and a swamp. Applying VectoBac® 12 AS at the rate of 1.0-1.25 l/ha and VectoBac® G at 7.5-10.0 kg/ha produced excellent initial control (90%-100%) of all mosquito larvae under Central Anatolian conditions. Zeuxia zejana Kolomiets (Diptera: Tachinidae) specimens were reared from the larvae of Agapanthia osmanlis Reiche et Saulcy (Col.: Cerambycidae) in Bayburt province (Kop Mountain Pass). Agapanthia osmanlis is the first known host for Zeuxia zejana in Turkey.

The present paper deals with the population structure and biology of Pseudonereis anomala collected from different shallow-water habitats of İskenderun Bay in September 2005. In all, 434 specimens of P. anomala were found in the area. The maximum density and biomass values of the species in the area were 2475 ind. m^{-2} (on Jania rubens) and 7.85 g m^{-2} (among the bivalve Brachidontes pharaonis), respectively. The relationships among the biometrical measurements of the P. anomala specimens were assessed using regression and correlation analyses. The growth of P. anomala seems to be allometric. Pseudorasbora parva is a small cyprinid fish native to East Asia. In 1982, the occurrence of this species was first recorded from the Thrace region of Turkey and in 1996, from Aksu Stream. This study was carried out in order to determine parasitoid species of the family Agromyzidae (Diptera) in Diyarbakır and Mardin provinces during 2002-2004. Infested leaves with leafminer larvae were collected from both cultivated and non-cultivated plants twice a month. The adult parasitoids were obtained by rearing from infested leaves in the laboratory. Five parasitoid species belonging to the Braconidae (Hymenoptera) were found. This study was based on Urophora Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 specimens collected from Turkey during 1999-2005. Urophora doganlari n. sp., reared in flowerhead galls on Centaurea bornmuelleria (Hausskn & Bornmuelleria, 1905), is described from Turkey and placed in the U. quadrifasciata species group. The other species are associated with Centaurea spp. and Ptilostemon spp. The best characters for defining the group are the preapical step in the female aculeus, oviscape length, colour of femora and first flagellomere, wing pattern, and pollinose on the scutum. The karyotypes and morphology of 98 specimens of the subterranean mole rat Spalax leucodon Nordmann, 1840 across 18 localities in and around Kastamonu province were analysed. It was determined that S. leucodon has 2n = 54, NF = 72; 2n = 56, NF = 74; 2n = 58, NF = 74; 2n =60, NF = 74 in the populations from the Kastamonu region. This study re-evaluated the brackish and freshwater Prosobranch fauna list of Turkey. Furthermore, recent systematic changes and future studies to be performed were discussed. This study was conducted with the pellets of Long-eared Owls from 2 sites in the area of Dicle University Campus, located in the north-eastern part of Diyarbakır Province, Turkey (lat 37°55'N, long 40°12'E). Pellets were collected at monthly intervals from July 2000 to June 2001 and the remains of 310 prey items were recovered from 211 pellets. The assemblages were composed mostly of small mammals. We examined 529 specimens of Mus domesticus and Mus macedonicus from Turkey, in terms of their morphological, bacular, and phallic aspects. The zygomatic index (ZI) varied from 0.32 to 0.47 in M. domesticus, and 0.60 to 0.85 in M. macedonicus. The head plus body length/tail length (H+B/T) index varied from 0.87 to 1.05 in M. domesticus, and 1.08 to 1.78 in M. macedonicus. The zygomatic plate is straight or convex in M. domesticus and M. macedonicus. The ventral wing of the parietal is generally tortuous in M. domesticus and is protruding or straight in M. macedonicus. Errata are given for the checklist of Tabanidae fauna of Turkey published by Kılıç in 1999 and additional records and localities reported after 1999 for previously known species are added to this checklist. With these additions, the number of species and subspecies is 164 and 13, respectively, for the Tabanidae fauna of Turkey.

This research was carried out along the Turkish Aegean Sea coast (from Saros Bay in the north to Turunç-Marmaris in the south) in order to determine the Isopod fauna. A total of 163 samplings were conducted at 23 stations and 17 different biotopes, from which 3209 specimens were collected belonging to 18 families, 29 genera and 50 species. Four new localities of Leptotyphlops macrorhynchus (JAN, 1862) were recorded in Turkey. Two of the localities were found within the previously known distribution area on the east side of the Fırat River, and the other 2 were found on the west side. As a result, the distribution range of Leptotyphlops macrorhynchus has been extended. Information about the morphological features of the captured specimens is given.

New records of water mites of the genus Monatractides K.Viets (Acari: Hydrachnidia, Torrenticolidae) for the fauna of Turkey are presented in this study. Three species, Monatractides lusitanicus (Lundblad, 1941), M. aberratus (Lundblad, 1941), and M. vafaei Pesic, 2004, are reported for the first time from Turkey.
