This study is based on the fruit fly (Diptera: Tephritidae) materials collected from Adıyaman, Kilis, and Şanlıurfa provinces during 2009 and 2010. Specimens were collected from host plants using an insect net. During this study, 42 species belonging to 13 genera from 3 subfamilies were determined in this region. Urophora tenuis Becker, 1908 is recorded for the first time from Turkey. In addition, zoogeographic distribution and wing figures of all species are given.

Age And Growth Of Swordfish (Xiphias Gladius L.) In The Aegean Sea, Okan Akyol, Tevfi̇k Ceyhan

Age and growth of swordfish, Xiphias gladius, were determined from 205 specimens (total n = 1408), collected from onboard a swordfish fishery fleet and from a wholesale fish market between June 2008 and July 2011. The length and weight distribution of all fish samples ranged from 51 to 242 cm and from 0.85 to 171.0 kg, respectively. The 70-80 cm lower jaw fork length range of swordfish had the highest ratio (approximately 57%). The length-weight relationship showed a positive allometric growth (b = 3.32; r^2 = 0.969). New Locality Record For Podarcis Siculus Hieroglyphicus (Berthold, 1842) (Squamata: Lacertidae) In The Western Black Sea Region Of Anatolia, Çeti̇n Ilgaz, Yusuf Kumlutaş, Mustafa Sözen

Six specimens of Podarcis siculus hieroglyphicus from Filyos, Zonguldak Province, in the western Black Sea region were collected. This new record extended eastward seriously (ca. 250 km) the known distribution area of the subspecies in Turkey. The meristic (pholidolial) and metric (morphometric) characters and color-pattern features of specimens collected from Filyos, Zonguldak, are given in detail and compared with the specimens from other known Turkish localities with regard to the literature. The specimens examined were similar to P. siculus hieroglyphicus specimens mentioned in the literature.

The Bearded Tit (Panurus biarmicus) is a small passerine bird occurring only in wetland habitats. Three subspecies of the Bearded Tit are known from Turkey. The endemic subspecies Panurus biarmicus kosswigi has only been recorded from Amik Lake in Turkey. This subspecies is now considered extinct; the apparent cause of this extinction was the drought affecting the lake. Other subpopulations might be similarly threatened by habitat loss. Therefore, it is important to investigate the morphometric characteristics and genetic variation of these local subpopulations. The present study deals with the first records of Laubieriellus salzi and Spiophanes afer in the Sea of Marmara. They were collected from Mytilus galloprovincialis, Zostera marina, sand, and shell fragments substrate at depths ranging from 0.2 to 5 m in November 2010. This study gives more information regarding the morphological and distributional features of these species.

Length-Weight Relationships Of 22 Fish Species From The Gallipoli Peninsula And Dardanelles (Northeastern Mediterranean, Turkey), Özgür Cengi̇z

Length-weight relationships are presented for 22 fish species from the Gallipoli Peninsula and Dardanelles between September 2006 and October 2009. The b values ranged between 2.78 and 3.28. All species' length-weight relationships were highly significant (P < 0.001).

New Records And Distributional Data On Sarcophaga (Heteronychia) (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) From Turkey, Gamze Pekbey, Rüstem Hayat

Sixteen species belonging to subgenus Heteronychia Brauer & Bergenstamm, 1889 of Sarcophaga Meigen, 1826 were recorded from the Bayburt, Erzincan, and Erzurum provinces of Turkey during 2008-2010. Five of these species, Sarcophaga (Heteronychia) armeniaca (Rohdendorf, 1937), S. (H.) bulgarica (Enderlein, 1936), S. (H.) clarahenae (Lehrer, 1999), S. (H.) monspellensia Böttcher, 1913, and S. (H.) recta (Rohdendorf, 1937) represent new records for the Turkish fauna. With these new records, the number of species belonging to subgenus Heteronychia known from Turkey has been increased from 19 to 24.

We performed this study on the subterranean mole rat Nannospalax xanthodon (Nehring, 1898) in western Turkey and we analyzed karyotypes of 121 specimens from 54 localities. This study was carried out in order to determine the species of the subfamilies Homolobinae, Macrocentrinae, Meteorinae, and Orgilinae in southeastern Anatolia, Turkey. Malaise and light traps and sweeping nets were used to obtain adult specimens from various habitats in the study area during 2010 and 2011. New Records Of Miltogramminae And Paramacronychiinae (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) From Turkey, Gamze Pekbey, Rüstem Hayat

This study was conducted in the Bayburt, Erzincan, and Erzurum provinces of Turkey during 2009 and 2010. A total of 10 species in 6 genera from the subfamilies Miltogramminae (4 species in 2 genera) and Paramacronychiinae (6 species in 4 genera) were determined. The genera Angiometopa Brauer and Bergenstamm, 1889 and Brachicoma Rondani, 1856 and the species Angiometopa falleni Pape, 1986, Brachicoma devia (Fallén, 1820), Macronychia polyodon (Meigen, 1824), and M. striginervis (Zetterstedt, 1838) are recorded for the first time from Turkey. Photographs or illustrations of the new records are provided.

This study was carried out in order to determine species of the subfamily Opiinae in Turkey. The collected materials from new localities were identified, and faunistic records of 63 species belonging to 3 genera of Opiinae were given. Ten of these species are reported as new to Turkey. The presented article covers synonyms, zoogeographical region'(s), hosts, host plants of host species, and parasitoid data for the species.

A total of 625 fish belonging to 25 species were sampled from the coasts of Trabzon, Rize, and Artvin provinces and examined parasitologically. Fifteen Lyciasalamandra atifi and 14 L. fazilae from Antalya Province, Turkey, were examined for helminths. Three species of nematodes, Rhabdias bermani, Aplectana acuminata, and Cosmocerca longicauda, were found in L. atifi and 2 species, Aplectana linstowi and Cosmocerca longicauda, were found in L. fazilae. L. atifi represents a new host record for each of the 3 species of nematodes reported; L. fazilae represents a new host record for each of the 2 species of nematodes reported.

The Effect Of Vegetation And Water Depth On Nest Patterns Of The Eurasian Coot (Fulica Atra), Ali̇ Uzun

Nest characteristics of the Eurasian coot (Fulica atra) and the effect of vegetation and water depth on nest size were investigated. The study was conducted in 2008 on Poyrazlar Lake (Sakarya) in northwest Turkey. Depth and distance from the edge has no effect on internal nest diameter; however, nest height and external diameter are correlated with water depth.

Two different myxosporean fish parasites (Myxobolus episquamalis Egusa, Maeno & Sorimachi, 1990 and Myxobolus ichkeulensis Bahri & Marques, 1996) are reported based on samples found on the scales and gill arches of flathead mullet (Mugil cephalus) captured from Çamlık Lagoon, located on the northeastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Both parasites were found for the first time on flathead mullet from the Turkish coasts. In addition to the data concerning spore morphology and the dimensions of both species, new additional taxonomic observations are presented. Furthermore, asynchronous polar capsule maturation was observed in transmission electron microscope images of both species.

Some parasitic hymenopterans were reared from their host insects found on the stems and branches of Heracleum platytaenium Boiss., which contains furanocoumarins that are insect repellents and suppress growth in some species. Nucleolar Organizer Regions In Mesocricetus Brandti (Nehring, 1898) (Mammalia: Rodentia) From The Yozgat And Tokat Provinces Of Turkey, Nursel Baydemi̇r

Mesocricetus brandti possesses a diploid chromosome number of 2n = 42, a fundamental number of NF = 82, and a fundamental number of autosomal arms of NFa = 78. The chromosome set consists of 17 meta-submetacentric pairs, 2 subtelocentric pairs, and 1 acrocentric pair. The X chromosome is large and metacentric while the Y is medium-sized and metacentric. The nucleolar organizer regions were located at the telomeric region of 7 biarmed autosomes and at the centromeric region of 1 acrocentric autosome.

In this study, Zeiraphera isertana (Fabricius, 1794) is newly recorded among Turkish Tortricidae fauna. This is the first record of the genus Zeiraphera Treirschke, 1829 from Turkey. The specimens were collected from cherry trees in Afyonkarahisar Province during 2008. Collection was done via bait traps used for the control of Tortricidae pest moths. Both male genitalia and imago were depicted.

The Thysanoptera fauna of the Lakes Region of Turkey was studied in 1990-1992. A total of 3173 specimens from 397 samples were examined. The study revealed 74 Thysanoptera species and 45 of them are new records for the region. Three genera, namely Bregmatothrips Hood, Eremiothrips Priesner, and Iridothrips Priesner; and 5 species, namely Bregmatothrips dimorphus (Priesner), Eremiothrips dubius (Priesner), Eremiothrips taghizadehi (zur Strassen), Iridothrips iridis (Watson), and Mycterothrips annulicornis (Uzel) are new records for the Turkish fauna. A total of 44 molluscan species belonging to 5 classes were identified in 3 transects (including depths of 10, 25, 50, 75, 100 and 200 m) located in Kumkuyu, Limonlu, and Erdemli. Overall, no significant difference in community parameters such as diversity index, evenness index, and species richness was found among transects. The species abundance showed seasonal and depth-wise variations. Tephritis ozaslani sp. nov. is described from Artvin Province of Turkey and placed in the T. pulchra species group. The key to the T. pulchra group is provided, which includes 9 species. The main characters that distinguish the new species from the closely resembling Palaearctic species, T. cometa israilis Freidberg, T. acanthiophilopsis Hering, T. erdemlii Kütük, T. divisa Rondani, T. recurrens Loew, T. merzi Freidberg & Kütük, and T. hurvitzi Freidberg, are discussed. In addition, Inula oculus christi L. (Asteraceae) is determined as a host plant of the new species.

Neoechinorhynchus zabensis Amin, Abdullah, and Mhaisen, 2003 was described from Capoeta damascina (Valenciennes, 1842) and Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843) in the Greater and Lesser Zab rivers of northern Iraq. It is reported here from C. trutta in the Dez River, Iran, and from Capoeta barroisi Lortet, 1894 (new host record) in the Murat River, Turkey (both are new locality records). Neoechinorhynchus zabensis appears to be restricted to the Tigris-Euphrates basin in Iraq, Turkey, and Iran, where it infects native fishes of the genus Capoeta Valenciennes in Cuvier and Valenciennes, 1842 (Cyprinidae). This paper reports the morphological characteristics of a subadult lynx, Lynx lynx, collected in 2005 from Ardanuç in Artvin Province. Pelage color, hair structure, and some cranial measurements of this specimen and other recent records of Turkish lynxes are given, including that from Beyaz Dağ in Şırnak Province in the southeastern part of Turkey collected during field work and a skin from an unknown locality in Isparta. It was concluded that Turkish lynxes are likely to represent the subspecies L. lynx dinniki based on a comparison of morphometric values given in the literature.

Graecoanatolica Radoman, 1973 is a remarkable genus of Hydrobiidae, recognized with its disjunct distribution between Macedonia, Greece (Thessaly), and Turkey (Lakes Region). However, the current distribution of the genus is restricted to Turkey, as the 2 Balkan species have been declared extinct. In this study, a taxonomic revision of the Graecoanatolica species in Turkey is presented. Among 6 previously recognized species, G. conica Radoman, 1973 and G. brevis Radoman, 1973 from the provinces of Denizli and Burdur are determined to be extinct. The larval parasitoids and larval diseases of Malacosoma neustria (L.) (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae) in various host plants were investigated in Erzurum Province, Turkey, during 2004 and 2005. The larval parasitoids were reared in a laboratory, and a total of 29 parasitoid species were established in association with the larvae of M. neustria in the families Tachinidae (Diptera), Braconidae, Ichneumonidae, and Chalcidoidea (Hymenoptera). Of the 6 tachinid parasitoids, Pales pavida (Meigen) was the most prevalent species and accounted for 25% of the tachinid records. Two new mite species of the genus Stigmaeus from Turkey, S. tokatensis sp. nov. and S. amasyanus sp. nov., are described and illustrated based on females. A key to all known Turkish species of the genus is included.

The Thysanoptera fauna of the Aegean region of Turkey was studied in the spring of 1993 and 1995. The surveys were conducted in the following provinces: Afyonkarahisar, Aydın, Denizli, İzmir, Manisa, Muğla, and Uşak. A total of 2899 specimens from 405 samples were examined. The study revealed 82 Thysanoptera species, which included new records for the region and Turkey. One genus, Prosopothrips Uzel, and 3 species, Oxythrips halidayi Bagnall, Prosopothrips nigriceps Bagnall, and Rubiothrips validus (Karny), are new records for Turkish fauna. This paper presents the results of recent field surveys and provides new data on the spider fauna of Turkey. The following 9 taxa are new records for Turkey: Larinia chloris (Audouin, 1826); Macrothele sp.; Arctosa tbilisiensis Mcheidze, 1946; Pisaura consocia (O. P.-Cambridge, 1872); Prodidomus redikorzevi Spassky, 1940; Macaroeris flavicomis (Simon, 1884); Scytodes velutina Heineken & Lowe, 1832; Achaeridion conigerum (Simon, 1914); and Phoroncidia paradoxa (Lucas, 1846).
