Within the context of this study, conducted in 2007 and 2008, 64 species of the genera Allohelea Kieffer, Alluaudomyia Kieffer, Atrichopogon Kieffer, Bezzia Kieffer, Brachypogon Kieffer, Culicoides Latreille, Dasyhelea Kieffer, Forcipomyia Meigen, Leptoconops Skuse, Palpomyia Meigen, and Stilobezzia Kieffer were reported in the Central Black Sea Region of Turkey. Among them, three genera (Allohelea, Alluaudomyia, and Brachypogon) and 26 species are new to the country's fauna.

An updated checklist of the species of Turkish Raphidioptera and further analysis concerning their zoogeographical distribution are presented in this study. The present checklist has been based on studies from the literature and includes records from extensive material that I have identified over the last few years. The Turkish Raphidioptera presently comprises 40 species in 8 genera and 2 families. There are 38 species of Raphidiidae, while there are only 2 species of Inocelliidae in Turkey. According to evolutionary biologists, ecology is a very important factor in speciation. Ecology may be effective at driving adaptive divergence between lineages in different environments and climatic conditions. Because Anatolia has major mountain belts, paleogeographic characteristics, and unique climatic traits, it plays an important role in speciation and shows a barrier effect for many terrestrial species. In this study, we investigated the climatic preferences of 6 isolated evolutionary lineages of Typhlops vermicularis in Anatolia using ecological niche modeling. Faunistic and ecological data on 44 species from 3 genera of subtribe Apodacrina are given: Apodacra (13 species), Xeromyia (13 species), and Xerophilomyia (18 species). An original key to the genera is presented. Apodacra radchenkoi Verves & Khrokalo sp. nov. from Turkey is described as being new to science. One species is recorded for the first time for Afghanistan, 2 for Azerbaijan, 2 for Egypt, 2 for Greece, 8 for Israel, 1 for Kazakhstan, 1 for Kyrgyzstan, 6 for Tajikistan, 1 for Tanzania, 3 for Turkey, 2 for Turkmenistan, and 3 for Uzbekistan.

Mirabilithrombium turcicum sp. nov. is described based on both active postlarval forms and larvae. Larvae of Mirabilithrombium Gabrys, 1999 were obtained by experimental rearing from a field-collected female and are described for the first time. This is the third species described in the genus; a key to the active postlarval forms is provided. Data on the habitat specificity for the species are provided.

Nest-site characteristics and nest-site selection in a forest population of common blackbird was investigated in an area of 200 ha in Eskişehir's Meşelik black pine forest during the spring of 2013. Within this framework, 36 nests were found in total: 31 of them were new and the rest (N = 5) were old. The nest-site characteristic parameters were measured in centimeters and nest tree species were recorded. This paper updates our present knowledge on the geographical distribution and host plant relationships of Turkish species of the sap- and pollen-beetle family Nitidulidae. Pria zenobia Jelínek, 1997 from eastern Mediterranean areas is synonymized with Pria angustula Cooper, 1982, from South Africa (syn. nov.). The unknown ovipositor of Xerogethes osellai Audisio & Jelínek, 2000, a species endemic to central Turkey, is described, and the first information on its biology is reported. Raptors can be parasitized by numerous helminth species due to their feeding behavior. When the parasite load is high, the bird's life can be affected. A total of 21 common buzzards, Buteo buteo, from different districts of Bursa, in Northwest Turkey, were examined for helminth infections. The results of the postmortem examination revealed that 15 of 21 buzzards (71.43%) harbored 1 or more helminth species. Seven species/genera of helminths were detected at the following prevalence rates: ascarid larvae (47.62%), Strigea falconis (38.09%), Neodiplostomum attenuatum (33.33%), Cladotaenia globifera (14.29%), Centrorhynchus amphibius (14.29%), Physaloptera alata (9.52%), and Synhimantus laticeps (4.76%). In this study, Ag-nucleolar organizing region (NOR) banding patterns of Myotis myotis and Miniopterus schreibersii were presented. The karyotype of Myotis myotis has a diploid number (2n) of 44, a fundamental number (NF) of 54, and an autosomal fundamental number (NFa) of 50. The 2n, NF, and NFa numbers of Miniopterus schreibersii were 46, 54, and 56, respectively. In Myotis myotis, a homomorphic NOR was localized in 1 of the medium-sized acrocentric pairs; however, NORs were located in 2 pairs on the secondary constriction of Miniopterus schreibersii.

One specimen of Chalcides ocellatus was found in the village of Görümlü, Silopi, Şırnak, southeastern Anatolia. It was examined in terms of morphometric, pholidotic, and coloration pattern characteristics. The distribution of Chalcides ocellatus was expanded to the eastern part of Turkey, an addition of around 235 km air distance, with this study.

This study was based on fruit flies collected from Aksaray and Mersin provinces in spring and summer of 2012-2013. During the study, samples were collected from host plants randomly or systematically by using an insect net. In the study, 62 species belonging to 21 genera from 5 subfamilies have been determined, and Dioxyna sororcula and Terellia ivannikovi have been recorded for the first time in Turkey. In addition, adult figures of new records and wing figures of all species are given.

In this study, specimens were collected from different cities in Turkey during the years 1992-2006. Seven species of 4 genera belonging to Otitinae (Diptera: Ulidiidae) were identified. Four species [Dorycera caucasica Hendel, 1910; Ceroxys urticae (Linnaeus, 1758); Herina lugubris (Meigen, 1826); and Otites formosa (Panzer, 1798)] are new records for the Turkish fauna. The distributions of these species are mapped. In addition, wing photographs of species given in this study are provided.

The present study was carried out to determine the occurrence and distribution of the kleptoparasitic bee genus Sphecodes Latreille (Hymenoptera: Halictidae) of Turkey. The material comprises samples collected from various parts of Turkey since the 1960s and certain private collections in Europe. The examination of the material and an overview of the published sources allowed us to reach the conclusion that Sphecodes of Turkey is represented by 33 species. In the present study, intensity, prevalence, and some pathologic effects of Caligus minimus, Nerocila spp., and Livoneca punctata on fishes extending from the eastern Black Sea coast of Turkey were determined. In addition, besides morphological characters of parasites, diagnosis of the species was carried out by using a molecular method (polymerase chain reaction) in characterization. A new Lycian salamander subspecies, Lyciasalamandra flavimembris ilgazi subsp. nov., is described from southwestern Anatolia, Turkey. It differs from nominate subspecies by its characteristic color pattern, especially the ground color of the dorsum, tail, upper eyelids, and limbs. Its distribution is limited to the type locality (Kötekli, Muğla Province, Turkey).

The morphological variability of the baculum (os penis) of 147 adult specimens of species in the genus Nannospalax from 58 localities in Turkey was examined using morphological and numerical taxonomic methods. Significant differences among all of the Turkish species in the genus were determined by morphological and biometrical comparison of the bacula, and the results of this study showed that N. nehringi and N. xanthodon are separate species and that the names are not synonyms. A total of 143 species belonging to Amphipoda were found at the depths between the supralittoral zone and 200 m along the Levantine coast of Turkey. Ten species (Ampelisca spinifer, Cheiriphotis mediterranea, Deutella shieckei, Ericthonius argenteus, Gammaropsis crenulata, Gammaropsis sophiae, Isaea montagui, Ischyrocerus inexpectatus, Liropus elongatus, and Melita bulla) were recorded for the first time in Turkey, while 69 species were new for the Levantine coast of Turkey. Platorchestia platensis was the only species observed out of water (supralittoral). The other encountered species showed distribution in various depths of between 0 and 200 m. In this study, the breeding ecology and behaviour of the Great Reed Warbler, Acrocephalus arundinaceus, was studied at Poyrazlar Lake, Turkey. The breeding period started in the first week of May. The incubation period lasted 14 days. As clutch size increased, the diameter of the nests became larger (r = 0.65). Diameters of nests containing different clutch sizes varied significantly from one another (P < 0.01). However, their height did not change (r = 0.24). There was no significant height difference between nests containing different clutch sizes (P > 0.05). As the nests became farther from the shore, the clutch size and the egg weight increased, because mature adults built their nests on the reeds in deeper areas (r = 0.59, r = 0.73). On …

Genetic differences in 2 regions (D-loop and cytochrome b) of mitochondrial DNA in Nannospalax xanthodon and Nannospalax ehrenbergi were determined using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis. For 2 species distributed in Anatolia, 94 specimens from 62 populations of Nannospalax xanthodon and 2 populations of Nannospalax ehrenbergi were studied. The Helconinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) species recorded from Turkey as of the end of 2012 are listed. The total number of species was determined as 10. Changes in comparison to the previous Turkish fauna are briefly annotated and the distributions for all species in each of the 68 biogeographical provinces are presented. After the publication of our previous fauna, 8 species belonging 2 genera have been recorded as new to Turkey. The Taxonomic Status And Geographic Distribution Of The European Hare (Lepus Europaeus Pallas, 1778) In Turkey (Mammalia: Lagomorpha), Yasi̇n Demi̇rbaş, İrfan Albayrak

This study was based on 125 specimens of hares collected from 61 different localities in Turkey between 2006 and 2010. We present diagnostic characters, pelage coloration, external, cranial and phallic measurements, skull and phallus features, hair structure, and collection localities of hares from Turkey. Additionally, we analyze morphometric variations of 5 regional populations according to the physiography/orography of the study area. Among the morphometric variables, 10 characters (weight, tail length, basal length, condylobasal length, rostral breadth, height of braincase, foramen incisiva length, occipitonasal length, profile length, and mandible length) are found to be significantly different between the populations (ANOVA, P < 0.01). Principal component analysis of 22 morphometric measurements is performed, and 71.56% of total variance is explained through 5 principle components. The Thracian specimen is distinguished from other populations on the first 2 canonical discriminant functions and the cluster dendrogram. The hair structure, as examined by scanning electron microscope, is found to be flattened and imbricate. Our Anatolian specimens are discussed at the subspecies level, comparing them to the relevant literature, and it is concluded that Lepus europaeus in Anatolia is represented by only one subspecies, Lepus europaeus syriacus.

Species composition and distribution of rumen ciliates were investigated in the rumen contents of 15 domestic goats living in İzmir, Turkey. Nineteen species and 10 morphotypes belonging to 7 genera were identified. The mean number of ciliates was (94.3 ± 33.4) × 10^4 cells mL^{-1} rumen contents, which is higher than that of other goat hosts reported from Turkey and the world. The mean number of ciliate species per host was 9.2 ± 3.4. Entodinium semahatae, E. rostratum, and Ophryoscolex purkynjei m. bifidoquadricinctus are new host records for goats. A total of 625 fish belonging to 25 fish species were collected from the coastal areas of the Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey and were examined for fish parasites. The number of specimens of fish parasites collected included 242 digeneans (23 Anisocoelium capitellatum, 12 Anisocladium gracile, 50 Anisocladium fallax, 1 Stephanostomum minutum, 131 Helicometra fasciata, and 25 Lecithochirium musculus) and 517 cestodes (437 Grillotia erinaceus, 79 Progrillotia dasyatidis, and 1 Scolex pleuronectis). Diplodinium rangiferi was observed in rumen contents from a single animal out of 25 cattle surveyed in the area of Kastamonu, Turkey. It constituted 2.7% of the total ciliate population and had a 4% frequency of appearance. The size and percentage occurrence of this species in the present study are compared to those previously reported for other animal hosts living in different geographical locations. This study reports for the first time in Turkey and the world the naturally occurring presence of D. rangiferi in cattle.

Amblyseius bryophilus Karg (Acari: Phytoseiidae) is recorded for the first time for the Turkish fauna. The specimens were collected on bean plants infested with Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) in Ayder plateau, Rize Province, Turkey. In this paper, the redescription of A. bryophilus based on the collected adult females and a key to the Turkish Amblyseius species are given.
