The present contribution is based on the genus Bracon Fabricius, 1804 collected from the southern part of Iran during 2010-2013. A total of 10 species belonging to 6 subgenera were collected and identified, of which 2 subgenera (Ophthalmobracon Tobias, 1957, and Osculobracon) and 6 species are recorded for the first time from Iran. A phylogeny of the species-rich clade of the Neotropical frog genus Leptodactylus sensu stricto is presented on the basis of a total evidence analysis of molecular (mitochondrial and nuclear markers) and non-molecular (adult and larval morphological and behavioral characters) sampled from > 80% of the 75 currently recognized species. Our results support the monophyly of Leptodactylus sensu stricto, with Hydrolaetare placed as its sister group. The reciprocal monophyly of Hydrolaetare and Leptodactylus sensu stricto does not require that we consider Hydrolaetare as either a subgenus or synonym of Leptodactylus sensu lato. The family Xeniidae (Octocorallia) constitutes an abundant benthic component on many Indo-West Pacific coral reefs and is ecologically important in the Red Sea. The genus Ovabunda Alderslade, 2001 was recently established to accommodate previous Xenia species with sclerites comprised of a mass of minute corpuscle-shaped microscleres. The aim of the present study was to examine type material of Xenia species in order to verify their generic affiliation. We present here a comprehensive account of the genus Ovabunda, using scanning electron microscopy to depict sclerite microstructure. Background: A putative new species of Varestrongylus has been recently recognized in wild North American ungulates based on the ITS-2 sequences of larvae isolated from feces during a wide geographic survey. No taxonomic description was provided, as adult specimens were not examined. Methods: Lungworm specimens were collected in the terminal bronchioles of muskoxen from Quebec, and a woodland caribou from central Alberta, Canada. The L3 stage was recovered from experimentally infected slugs (Deroceras spp.). Description of specimens was based on comparative morphology and integrated approaches. The species of Anacaena THOMSON, 1859 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) of the Republic of the Philippines are revised. Fifteen new species are described: Anacaena albay sp.n., A. amplocomata sp.n., A. apo sp.n., A. balabag sp.n., A. cordillera sp.n., A. davao sp.n., A. destructa sp.n., A. emergens sp.n., A. hemisphaerica sp.n., A. levistriata sp.n., A. philippina sp.n., A. princesa sp.n., A. quezona sp.n., A. sulcata sp.n., and A. zamboangana. All species are endemic to the Philippines, twelve are aquatic, the habitat of three species is unknown. The Taxonomic Status And Geographic Distribution Of The European Hare (Lepus Europaeus Pallas, 1778) In Turkey (Mammalia: Lagomorpha), Yasi̇n Demi̇rbaş, İrfan Albayrak

This study was based on 125 specimens of hares collected from 61 different localities in Turkey between 2006 and 2010. We present diagnostic characters, pelage coloration, external, cranial and phallic measurements, skull and phallus features, hair structure, and collection localities of hares from Turkey. Additionally, we analyze morphometric variations of 5 regional populations according to the physiography/orography of the study area. Among the morphometric variables, 10 characters (weight, tail length, basal length, condylobasal length, rostral breadth, height of braincase, foramen incisiva length, occipitonasal length, profile length, and mandible length) are found to be significantly different between the populations (ANOVA, P < 0.01). Principal component analysis of 22 morphometric measurements is performed, and 71.56% of total variance is explained through 5 principle components. The Thracian specimen is distinguished from other populations on the first 2 canonical discriminant functions and the cluster dendrogram. The hair structure, as examined by scanning electron microscope, is found to be flattened and imbricate. Our Anatolian specimens are discussed at the subspecies level, comparing them to the relevant literature, and it is concluded that Lepus europaeus in Anatolia is represented by only one subspecies, Lepus europaeus syriacus.

In this research, 29 species of 11 amphibian and reptile families were detected in the endorheic basin of Akşehir and Eber. Of these species, 5 are anurans, 1 is a tortoise, 1 is a turtle, 9 are lizards, and 13 are snakes. In addition, the chorotype classification of the species recorded in the study area and their distributions depending on plants are also provided. It was established that specimens of subspecies Ophisops elegans macrodactylus and O. e. centralanatolia were sympatrically found in the vicinity of Ortaköy and Tuzlukçu. A checklist is provided for the Turkish Psylloidea comprising 99 species, of which 1 is doubtful (Livia crefeldensis) and 6 are recorded for the first time from Turkey (Rhodochlanis bicolor, Euphyllura pakistanica, Camarotoscena lauta, Syntomoza unicolor, Baeopelma colorata, and Spanioneura persica). A key is provided for the 3 Spanioneura species associated with Prunus dulcis. Spanioneura pechai (Klimaszewski and Lodos) stat. rev. is removed from synonymy with S. turkiana.

We describe and illustrate the external morphology, oral disc, chondrocranium, and internal oral anatomy of Leptodactylus caatingae larvae. We analyze the internal oral anatomy using scanning electron microscopy of a larva in Gosner, stage 38 and chondrocranial anatomy is reported for Gosner stage 34. The tadpole at Gosner stage 38 has a globular body shape with low tail fins and a ventral oral disc bordered by two rows of marginal papillae on most of the disc, except for the anterior labium and a medial portion of the posterior labium where papillae are simple; a wide rostral gap is present, labial …

In this study, gerbils collected in the Mongolia over the summers of 2009-2012 were examined for coccidia. In total, 171 gerbils of three species from 22 localities were examined for coccidia. Coccidian oocysts were identified from 21 gerbils, but those found in 1 of those gerbils were probably pseudoparasites of the host from which they were recovered. From the remaining 20 gerbils, 7 morphotypes of Eimeria and 1 morphotype of Isospora were identified. The study of a collection of caddisflies from Mindoro yielded a total of 34 species. Eight species proved to be unknown taxa and are described in the present article as: Rhyacophila crenophysetis spec. nov., Agapetus parallelaria spec. nov., Stactobia roxasi spec. nov., Paduniella vicentis spec. nov., Paduniella prodita spec. nov., Psychomyia taugadensis spec. nov., Tinodes hypoplectis spec. nov., and Ecnomus biundularia spec. nov. A list of all collected species is provided.

Ancyronyx buhid sp. n. and Ancyronyx tamaraw sp. n. are described based on adults and larvae, matched using their cox1 or cob DNA sequence data. Additional records of Ancyronyx schillhammeri Jäch, 1994 and Ancyronyx minerva Freitag & Jäch, 2007 from Mindoro are listed. The previously unknown larva of Ancyronyx schillhammeri is also described here, aided by cox1 data. The new species and larval stages are described in detail and illustrated by SEM and stacked microscopic images. Seven species of Hydraenidae, Hydrophilidae and Elmidae are recorded from temporary freshwater habitats at the Ateneo de Manila University Campus in the metropolitan area of Manila, Philippines. The present study deals with the first records of Laubieriellus salzi and Spiophanes afer in the Sea of Marmara. They were collected from Mytilus galloprovincialis, Zostera marina, sand, and shell fragments substrate at depths ranging from 0.2 to 5 m in November 2010. This study gives more information regarding the morphological and distributional features of these species.

Six species of Erythmelus Enock in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China, are reviewed, and an illustrated key to females is provided. One new species, E. (Erythmelus) quasipicinus Hu & Triapitsyn sp. nov., is described. Erythmelus wenquanensis Li, Lin & Hu, syn. nov., and E. brevifuniculatus Li, Lin & Hu, syn. nov., are synonymized under E. (Erythmelus) flavovarius (Walker) and E. (Erythmelus) israeliensis Viggiani & Jesu, respectively. New extralimital records are given for some of the species.

During a 3-year faunistic survey in the Strandzha Mountains and along the Black Sea coast, a total of 44 species of Pselaphinae were recorded, 40 in the Bulgarian part and 30 in the Turkish part of this mountain range. Neocaeculus imperfectus new species is described from material collected on Barrow Island, Western Australia. Keys to genera and Australasian species of Caeculidae are provided, and the relationship between the genera Neocaeculus and Microcaeculus is discussed. Results of an inventory of the fauna of aquatic and semiaquatic true bugs (Insecta: Hemiptera) of small streams in a lake catchment of northern Palawan are presented. Twenty-one species were recorded. Taxonomic and ecological notes, distribution and collection sites are given for each identified taxon. Rhagovelia hoberlandti Hungerford & Matsuda 1961 is newly ranked as a subspecies of R. kawakamii (Matsumura 1913): Rhagovelia kawakamii hoberlandti Hungerford & Matsuda 1961, stat.n. Bisexual populations of Ilyocypris inermis Kaufmann, 1900 were reported for the first time from 5 different aquatic bodies in Bolu and Erzincan (Turkey). The males were compared with the males of the other 11 species of the genus Ilyocypris (I. australiensis, I. biplicata, I. decipiens, I. dentifera, I. divisa, I. fallax, I. getica, I. gibba, I. lacustris, I. mongolica, and I. monstrifica) and described based on examinations of the soft body parts (e.g., hemipenis, legs, clasping organs) and valves. Ecological characteristics of habitats where the bisexual populations found were discussed for future studies.

The idiocerine leafhopper genus Busoniomimus Maldonado-Capriles, 1977 is recorded for the first time in China, and a new species, B. hainanensis sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Hainan Province, China. A key to species of the genus Busoniomimus is given, and a checklist of all known species of the genus Busoniomimus is also provided.

Piaroa guipongai sp. nov. is described based on specimens found in a secondary forest in the department of Tolima, Colombia, representing the third species of Piaroa Villarreal, Giupponi & Tourinho, 2008, and the first from this country. It shares with P. virichaj Villarreal, Giupponi & Tourinho, 2008 the shape and size of the male flagellum and the presence of a conspicuous ventral tubercle in the femur; however, like P. bijagua Armas & Víquez, 2009, it has a larger guard tooth on the chelicerae. Three new species from the Marmara region of Turkey are described: Hilara sakaryensis sp. nov. (Hilara abdominalis-group), Hilara truva sp. nov. (Hilara canescens-group), and Hilara balikesirensis sp. nov. (Hilara intermedia-group). Males and females are described and compared with related species, and male genitalia and forelegs are illustrated. The systematic position of the new species within the species groups is discussed, and a key to the Turkish species of Hilara Meigen is given.

Determining The Composition Of The Dwelling Tubes Of Antarctic Pterobranchs, Lukasz J. Sewera

Pterobranchs are a group of marine invertebrates within the Hemichordata, which share characteristics with both chordates and echinoderms. Pterobranchs live in colonies of secreted tubes, coenicia, which are composed of a gelatinous material of unknown composition. Visually, the tubes appear similar to the tunic of tunicates, a group of invertebrates within the Chordata. The nonproteinaceous tunic of tunicates is composed of cellulose, which is unusual. The goal of this study was to determine the composition of the pterobranch coenicium. Some aspects of pterobranch phylogeny are still unclear even after multiple molecular and morphological studies. Four oribatid mites new to the Turkish fauna, namely Licneremaeus licnophorus (Michael, 1882), Moritzoppia (Moritzoppia) tridentata (Forsslund, 1942), Lauroppia maritima acuminata (Strenzke, 1951), and Banksinoma lanceolata lanceolata (Michael, 1885), collected from Bolu province, Turkey, are given with their drawings and SEM photographs. On the basis of the collected samples, their morphological features and distributions in the world are also presented.

Two new species of zerconid mites, Zercon denizliensis sp.n. and Z. alattini sp.n., collected from Honaz Mountain National Park in Turkey are described and illustrated. Additionally, a key to the species of the genus Zercon known from Turkey is given.

Morphometrical, biological, ecological, and karyological data of 156 Myotis myotis and 149 M. blythii specimens collected from various provinces of Turkey between 1974 and 2007 were evaluated. Specimens from Turkish Thrace were referred to as M. m. myotis and the Mediterranean part as M. m. macrocephalicus. Specimens from the rest of Anatolia were assigned to an intermediate form. Due to a steady increase in body and cranial size detected in Myotis blythii from western to eastern Anatolia, we did not assign a subspecific name for the M. blythii populations in Turkey. For large parts of the world, the knowledge of bat ectoparasites is still scanty. Regarding Mongolia, only few studies exist to date. This paper analyzes results from extensive captures between 2005-2008, carried out in different sites of Mongolia. Discussed ectoparasites include bat fleas, (Ischnopsyllidae), bat flies (Nycteribiidae), and bat bugs (Cimicidae) and spinturnicid mites (Spinturnicidae). A number of species found in this study were new records for Mongolia, and for many species additional sites were reported. For some bat species, the spectrum and frequency of larger ectoparasites could be determined for the first time.

The Occurrence Of The Subgenus Microlaccobius Gentili In Turkey (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae, Laccobius), With Taxonomic Notes, Mustafa Cemal Darilmaz, Suat Kiyak

Distributional data and the chorotype of all known taxa of Turkish species of the subgenus Microlaccobius Gentili, 1974 are summarized. The taxonomic position of Laccobius gracilis persicus Gentili, 1974 is discussed and L. persicus is elevated to the level of valid species and new record for the Turkish fauna. A short identification key of Turkish species of the subgenus is also given.
