New Host And New Records Of Charipinae(Hymenoptera: Cynipoidea: Figitidae) From Iran, Mar Ferrer Suay, Jesus Selfa, Ehsan Rakhshani, Elham Nader, Juli Pujade Villar

Charipinae material collected from various localities in Iran was studied. A total of 712 specimens have been determined in 8 species: Alloxysta arcuata (Kieffer, 1902), A. Brevis (Thomson, 1862), A. Circumscripta (Hartig, 1841), A. Citripes (Thomson, 1862), A. Darci (Girault, 1933), A. Mullensis (Cameron, 1883), A. Pusilla (Kieffer, 1902), and Phaenoglyphis villosa (Hartig, 1841). Alloxysta circumscripta and A. Darci are cited for the first time from Iran. In total, 91 host associations (Charipinae-Aphidiinae-Aphid-host plant) are recorded, of which 23 are new to science. New trophic relationships are also recorded for Iran for A. Brevis, A. Mullensis, and P. Villosa. Diagnoses, …

The present contribution is based on the genus Bracon Fabricius, 1804 collected from the southern part of Iran during 2010-2013. A total of 10 species belonging to 6 subgenera were collected and identified, of which 2 subgenera (Ophthalmobracon Tobias, 1957, and Osculobracon) and 6 species are recorded for the first time from Iran. The newly recorded species from Iran are as follows: Bracon (Glabrobracon) ahngeri Telenga, 1936; Bracon (Habrobracon) didemie (Beyarslan, 2002); Bracon (Ophthalmobracon) ophthalmicus Telenga, 1933; Bracon (Osculobracon) erzurumiensis Beyarslan, 2002; Bracon (Osculobracon) osculator Nees 1811; and Bracon (Glabrobracon) obscurator Nees, 1811. This paper is the first record of the exotic cichlid, the redbelly tilapia, Tilapia zillii (Gervais, 1848), from natural freshwater bodies of Iran, which has most likely been deliberately released to enhance fish production. The new records extend the geographical distribution range of this exotic fish.

The genus Empidideicus Becker, 1907 (Diptera: Mythicomyiidae) was studied in 2 provinces of northern Iran (Tehran and Ghazvin provinces). Six species were collected and identified. A new species, Empidideicus formosus Hakimian, Talebi, & Gharali sp. nov., is described and its diagnostic characters are illustrated. This species is closely related to E. unicus Gharali & Evenhuis, 2011, but it is easily distinguished by the almost all-yellow prescutellar area and striated female spermathecal reservoirs.

Gammarus Komareki Aznavensis Subsp. Nov., A New Amphipod Subspecies From Iran (Amphipoda: Gammaridae), Murat Özbek, Hamidreza Rasouli

A new subspecies of freshwater amphipod, Gammarus komareki aznavensis subsp. nov., collected from Aznav County (Khalkhal-Ardabil), northwestern Iran, is described and illustrated. The new subspecies belongs to the Gammarus pulex-group and has characteristic features similar to Gammarus komareki. Shorter flagellum of antenna 1, kidney-shaped and bigger eyes, more setose outer margin of the exopodite of uropod 3, and shorter endopodite of uropod 3 are the most obvious features that differ from G. komareki. A detailed morphological description and illustrations of the new subspecies are given and differences from related species are discussed.

One genus and 3 species belonging to 3 tribes of Tetracneminae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea, and Encyrtidae) are recorded for the first time from Iran. The species Aenasius bambawalei Hayat is considered as a junior synonym of A. arizonensis (Girault). Nipaecoccus viridis is recorded as a new host for Leptomastix longicornis. In addition, available information for each species and comments on taxonomy, biology, and geographical distribution are included.

The false horned vipers of the genus Pseudocerastes consist of 3 species; all have been recorded in Iran. These include Pseudocerastes persicus, P. fieldi, and P. urarachnoides. Morphologically, the taxonomic border between P. fieldi and P. persicus is not as clear as that between P. urarachnoides and P. persicus or P. fieldi. The Carabidae family (Coleoptera) is among the dominant groups of terrestrial predators and includes more than 40,000 species worldwide, making it one of the largest families of beetles. The fauna of Carabidae in Azarbaijan, Iran, is very diverse and has not been studied thoroughly. In the following paper, this group of beneficial predators is studied, using samples taken through 2007-2010 across Azarbaijan. Species belonging to 12 subfamilies were collected from 24 different localities. Among this diverse fauna, 3 species, Broscus cephalotes (Linnaeus, 1758), Harpalus (Pseudoophonus) calceatus (Duftschmid, 1812), and Amara (Xenocelia) ingenua Duftschmid, 1812 are new records for Iranian fauna.

Ecological data are important in integrated vector management. There are few published documents about the ecology of mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in western Iran. To study the fauna and ecology of the mosquito larvae of Kurdistan Province, the samples were collected by the dipping method during June-October 2005 and June-August 2006. Larval habitat characteristics were recorded according to habitat type, water conditions (stagnant or running, clear or turbid), water temperature, vegetation (with or without vegetation), and sunlight exposure (full or partial sunlight or shaded). A new Hemiscorpius species, H. kashkayi sp. nov., is described from the Khuzestan and Ahwaz region in southwestern Iran. H. kashkayi is related to H. persicus Birula, 1903, known from Baluchestan in eastern Iran, which does not show sexual dimorphism between males and females, like H. kashkayi. These 2 species differ from all other Iranian Hemiscorpiidae species in having no sexual dimorphism. H. kashkayi is distinguished from H. persicus by its relatively short and well-developed stout metasoma and pedipalp segments, less developed patellar process, and carapacial and mesosomal carination.

A 2-year study of the food habits of the Persian leopard was conducted in Sarigol National Park in northeastern Iran, North Khorasan Province. Based on an analysis of 52 leopard scats, the principal prey was wild sheep (Ovis orientalis: prey frequency of occurrence = 61.5%; prey relative frequency of occurrence = 47.05%; relative biomass = 53.96%), followed by wild pig (Sus scrofa: frequency = 23.07%; relative frequency = 17.64%; relative biomass = 25.38%) and wild goat (Capra aegagrus: frequency = 13.46%; relative frequency = 10.29%; relative biomass = 6.64%). Typhlops vermicularis (Merrem, 1820) is one of the cosmopolitan species of the genus Typhlops that occupies a vast range of different localities from North Africa to western Afghanistan. In this study, different populations of T. vermicularis were investigated to clarify if there was any degree of geographic variation in this taxon throughout the studied range. For this purpose, 103 specimens of this taxon belonging to 12 populations from all over Iran, Turkey, and Turkmenistan were studied. Suctobelbid mite fauna of the Shendabad region (East Azerbaijan Province) was studied in 2008 to determine the species found in soil samples. There were 4 species identified that are new records for the mite fauna of Iran: Suctobelbella (Flagrosuctobelba) elegantula (Hammer), Suctobelbella (Flagrosuctobelba) nana Shtanchaeva and Subias, Suctobelbella (Suctobelbella) acutidens (Forsslund), and Suctobelba trigona (Michael). One species, Suctobelba aliena Moritz, is new to Asia. An identification key is given for the species.

Four species of the genus Perigrapha Lederer are reviewed in Iran. Two species, P. annau Varga & Ronkay, 1991 and P. flora Hreblay, 1996, are reported for the first time from the fauna of Iran. Adult and genitalia images are illustrated and identification keys for the external and genital features are given.

Neoechinorhynchus zabensis Amin, Abdullah, and Mhaisen, 2003 was described from Capoeta damascina (Valenciennes, 1842) and Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843) in the Greater and Lesser Zab rivers of northern Iraq. It is reported here from C. trutta in the Dez River, Iran, and from Capoeta barroisi Lortet, 1894 (new host record) in the Murat River, Turkey (both are new locality records). Neoechinorhynchus zabensis appears to be restricted to the Tigris-Euphrates basin in Iraq, Turkey, and Iran, where it infects native fishes of the genus Capoeta Valenciennes in Cuvier and Valenciennes, 1842 (Cyprinidae). The genus Trichopsomyia Williston, 1888 is recorded for the first time from Iran. Trichopsomyia flavitarsis (Meigen, 1822) and T. lucida (Meigen, 1822) were determined based on the material collected from a wetland in Aynali forests in 2010. A key to the species of the genus in northwestern Iran is prepared and photographs of the specimens are provided.

Within the wide distribution of spirlin in Iran, populations of this species inhabit a great variety of habitats, including qanats. We hypothesized that qanats may contribute to habitat-specific variation in the life history of the fish. To test this, a total of 240 specimens of Alburnoides bipunctatus, caught in the qanat of Uzineh (northern Iran) from October 2007 to August 2008, were examined for life history attributes. The present study was conducted to identify the parasitic infection of the nemacheilid loach, Turcinoemacheilus kosswigi, in 5 rivers of the Tigris basin in Iran, from July 2007 to August 2008. Extracted from 43 fish specimens were 3 parasitic species: metacercaria of Posthodiplostomum cuticola (Digenea: Diplostomatidae) in the skin, fins, gills, and muscles; Allocreadium sp. (Digenea: Allocreadidae) and Procamallanus sp. (Nematoda: Camallanidae) in the intestine. The scorpion Mesobuthus vesiculatus (Pocock, 1899) was briefly described from northwestern Iran based on only one male with a picture indicating the dorsal habitus of the holotype; the author pointed out that it has a large and globular telson with a short aculeus. Lecanid Rotifers (Rotifera: Monogononta: Lecanidae) From Iran, Esmat Khaleqsefat, Shahrokh Pashaei Rad, Reza Malekzadeh Viayeh

Rotifer diversity was investigated in 26 bodies of water in northwest Iran. Thirteen species of Lecanidae were identified, 6 of which are new records for Iran. The new records include Lecane flexilis (Gosse 1886), L. hamata (Stokes 1896), L. hastata (Murray 1913), L. lamellata (Daday 1893), L. papuana (Murray 1913), and L. punctata (Murray 1913). Drawings are provided, and both the seasonal and spatial distributions of the identified taxa are discussed. A brief comparison is made between the present study's results and those reported from Turkey.

Some aspects of the reproductive biology of Garra rufa Heckel, 1843, a native cyprinid fish species from the Armand stream in Chaharmahal-o-Bakhtiari province, central Iran, were investigated by regular monthly collections throughout 1 year. A significant relationship between length and weight and the isometric growth pattern were observed in this fish. There were no significant differences in the total number of male and female specimens. The rotifer fauna of Iran is poorly known. This comprehensive study presents the results of an investigation of rotifers sampled in 51 freshwater sites of Tehran and neighboring provinces of Iran, from May 2006 to May 2007. Of the 115 species identified, 72 from 19 genera and 5 families are new for the fauna of Iran. Including the present records, the number of known Iranian rotifers has now reached 143. A Contribution To The Tachinid Flies Of The Subfamilies Exoristinae And Tachininae (Diptera: Tachinidae) From Fars Province, Iran, Mehdi Gheibi, Hadi Ostovan, Karim Kamali

Data are given on the distribution of 40 species belonging to the subfamilies Exoristinae and Tachininae that were collected by the first author in Fars province, Iran, during 2006-2007. In all, 22 species were recorded for the first time from Iran and 34 species from Fars province. Erynniopsis antennata (Rondani, 1861) was reared for the first time on the host Diorhabda elongate (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae).

To determine the predatory mite family Phytoseiidae associated with spider mites in northwest Iran, a survey was carried out during 2006-2007. Nineteen species from 7 genera of the family Phytoseiidae were collected and identified. Measurements are given and some morphological characters are discussed. A key is provided to identify the adult females of the known 27 species of Phytoseiidae of that area. The following new synonymies are proposed: Neoseiulus vardgesi (Arutunjan, 1968) as a junior synonym of N. zwoelferi (Dosse, 1957); Transeius caspiansis (Denmark and Daneshvar, 1982) and T. patellae (Karg, 1982) as junior synonyms of T. wainsteini (Gomelauri, 1968); …
