Turkish Journal of Zoology
Data are given on the distribution of 40 species belonging to the subfamilies Exoristinae and Tachininae that were collected by the first author in Fars province, Iran, during 2006-2007. In all, 22 species were recorded for the first time from Iran and 34 species from Fars province. Erynniopsis antennata (Rondani, 1861) was reared for the first time on the host Diorhabda elongate (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae).

New Records Of Leptostracans (Crustacea, Phyllocarida) From The Eastern Mediterranean, Cengi̇z Koçak, Juan Moreira, Tuncer Katağan
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Knowledge about leptostracans from the Mediterranean Sea is still scarce. Examination of samples collected from the Aegean Sea off Turkey and from Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean Sea revealed new localities and range extensions for 2 species of leptostracans: Nebalia strausi Risso, 1826, and N. kocatasi Moreira, Koçak, and Katagan, 2007. The record of N. kocatasi is the first for Cyprus and for the Levantine Basin. Additional specimens (Nebalia sp. 1 and Nebalia sp. 2) might prove to belong to 2 new species but the lack of material prevents their formal description.

New Records Of Bats From The British Virgin Islands, Gary G. Kwiecinski, Jean-Pierre Bacle, Kevel C. Lindsay, Hugh H. Genoways
University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
As currently understood the bat fauna of the British Virgin Islands consists of five species – Noctilio leporinus, Brachyphylla cavernarum, Artibeus jamaicensis, Tadarida brasiliensis , and Molossus molossus. Our knowledge of distribution of bats in the British Virgin Islands is far more limited than that in the United States Virgin Islands. As part of ongoing research on the bats of the Virgin Islands, recent brief surveying periods in the British Virgin Islands have produced new records for some islands. Also, our researching of existing museum collections has discovered unreported new records. Our new data adds information for five species …

An Evaluation Of The Distribution Pattern Of The Common Chaffinch (Fringilla Coelebs) In Turkey, Utku Perktaş, Zafer Ayaş
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The common chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) is one of the most common and widespread of the Western Palearctic songbirds and breeds primarily in natural forests in the northern, western, and southwestern parts of Turkey. We reevaluated the distribution of this species in Turkey with recent observational data. Although this species has been considered a breeder in southeastern Turkey, results of this study suggest that it probably does not breed in the region any longer. We examined the effect of climatic (temperature, precipitation, potential evapotranspiration) and topographic (altitude) variables on common chaffinch distribution in Turkey. Our findings show that the presence of …

The natural history of thirty-eight species of the genus Crematogaster in North America has been discussed and distribution of specimens mapped. A dichotomous key to the workers of these species has been developed. I hypothesized that the species richness is not as great as previously thought in North America. A taxonomic review of these species has been made with the following changes:
Crematogaster cerasi Fitch 1855 senior synonym of C. browni Buren1968.
C. coarctata Mayr 1870 senior synonym of C. californica Emery 1895, C. mormonum
Emery 1895 and C. colei Buren1968.

Turkish Journal of Zoology
During 2007-2008 survey conducted on the Turkey oak (Quercus cerris) in Isparta province Psilophrys parvulus (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea, Encyrtidae) and its host Kermes bacciformis (Hemiptera: Coccoidea, Kermesidae) represent new species records for Turkey. Previously, P. parvulus was known only from Italy where it was first recorded. The emergence behavior of this parasitoid differs from that of most scale insect parasitoids emerging from the anal opening of its host rather than chewing a hole in the scale insect's test to emerge.

Historic And Recent Distributions Of Elk In Nebraska, Kent A. Fricke, Michael A. Cover, Scott E. Hygnstrom, Scott R. Groepper, Hugh H. Genoways, Kit M. Hams, Kurt C. Vercauteren
Great Plains Research: A Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (through 2013)
Elk (Cervus elaphus) were historically found throughout North America but were extirpated from Nebraska and much of the Great Plains in the 1880s due to consumptive uses by settlers, miners, market hunters, and others. Elk began to reappear in Nebraska in the 1950s and 1960s, and established a stable, nonmigratory population that currently consists of seven herds and an estimated 1,400 individuals throughout western and central Nebraska. The reappearance and subsequent persistence of elk in Nebraska suggests there is adequate habitat to support a self-sustaining population. The general movement of elk eastward may lead to an eventual statewide …

Distribution Pattern And Morphological Differences Between The Sexes Of River Blenny, Salaria Fluviatilis (Asso, 1801), In The Ceyhan River Basin, Turkey, Ahmet Alp, Cemi̇l Kara
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The distribution of the river blenny (Salaria fluviatilis) in the Ceyhan River basin and the morphological differences between the sexes were investigated. Occurrence of the river blenny in the Ceyhan River basin depended on altitude of the habitats, and specimens were obtained at altitudes < 750 m. Samples were strongly female biased, which may have been due to the egg-guarding behavior of the males. There was also sexual dimorphism in that male blennies were larger than females (P < 0.05); however, there were no differences in the meristic counts between the sexes (P > 0.05). Analysis of variance showed that all of the standardized morphometric measurements were significantly different among the samples. In discriminant function analysis, morphological differentiation was determined between the sexes. Plotting discriminant function 1 to 2 separated the sexes from each other. Proportions of correctly classified individuals into their original groups were 71.9% for juveniles, 79.0% for …

Local Population Size And Dynamics Of The Color Polymorphic Bush Cricket, Isophya Rizeensis Sevgili, 2003 (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) Within The Fırtına Valley, İsmai̇l Kudret Sağlam, Seli̇m Süalp Çağlar
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Isophya rizeensis Sevgili, 2003 (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) is a color polymorphic bush cricket endemic to the Fırtına Valley in the northeast of Turkey. This paper describes the local population size and dynamics of the species distributed in 13 different habitat patches within the Fırtına Valley. Local population size varied greatly between sites, and a 1-week delay in nymph emergence and maturation was recorded at the highest habitat patch relative to all habitat patches located at lower altitudes. The results given in this paper suggest that the I. rizeensis population in the Fırtına Valley constitutes a metapopulation made up of several local …

The Morphology, Taxonomy, And Distribution Of Specimens Of Darevskia Clarkorum (Sauria: Lacertidae: Darevskia) Collected From Turkey’S Eastern Black Sea Region, Çeti̇n Ilgaz
Turkish Journal of Zoology
In all, 103 specimens of Clark's lizard, Darevskia clarkorum (Darevsky and Vedmederja, 1977), from 6 localities in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey were examined in terms of pholidosis characteristics, morphometric measurements, and color and pattern features. Kolmogorov-Smirnov testing across all populations verified sexual dimorphism in the Ortacalar and Hemşin populations, regarding transversal series of ventral plates (P < 0.05). According to the Mann-Whitney U test, 16 pholidosis characteristics showed differences among the populations (P < 0.05). For comparison of morphometric measurements, 4 morphometric indices and ratios were developed. According to the results of independent t-testing, no differences were found between males and females among the populations. One-way variance analyses based on 4 morphometric indices and ratios confirmed that head index, snout-vent length/tail length, and tail length/total body length showed differences among the populations (P < 0.05). Regarding pholidosis characteristics (except rates of the presence of a masseteric plate and contact between the rostral and internasal plate), morphometric measurements, and color and pattern features, the specimens collected from 6 different localities were similar to D. clarkorum specimens mentioned in the literature. Furthermore, the known range of the species in Turkey has been extended.

Leptodactylus validus has an unusual distribution, inhabiting Trinidad, Tobago, and the Lesser Antilles, but not the mainland of South America. This distribution is inconsistent with other distribution patterns observed for these islands. Although slight variation in adult morphology has been observed among the different island populations of L. validus, call data suggest the presence of a single species. Calls of L. pallidirostris from Venezuela and Brazil suggested that this taxon might be conspecific with L. validus. Sequence data from the 12S and 16S mt rDNA genes indicate that L. validus represents a single species throughout its distribution and is conspecific …
