In this paper, samples of mosses and lichens collected from Bory Tucholskie National Park, Zaborski Landscape Park, and their surroundings (Pomerania Province, northern Poland) were studied for water bears (Tardigrada). In total, 38 tardigrade taxa were identified and six of them (Hypsibius cf. allisoni, Hyp. scabropygus, Macrobiotus sottilei, Milnesium beasleyi, Mil. dornensis, and Mil. granulatum) are new records for the Polish fauna. Eighteen taxa (only 14 identified to the species level) were found in Bory Tucholskie National Park, whereas in Zaborski Landscape Park this number was much larger, i.e. 28 taxa (including 22 identified to the species level), as well …

A new freshwater ostracod genus, Comalcandona gen. nov., and its type species (Comalcandona tressleri sp. nov.) are described from John Knox Ranch, Comal County, Texas, USA. The new genus differs from the related genera in the presence of the shallow pits on the trapezoidal shape of the carapace and presence of one well-developed anterior claw (posterior claw and both anterior and posterior setae are absent) on the uropod, a diagnostic character. Pumpkinseed(Lepomis gibbosus)is an exotic fish species widely distributed in Europe and it has expanded its distribution area in Turkey since its first report in 1982. It is well known that invasive species like L. gibbosus adapt to introduced habitats relatively well. In order to evaluate morphological variation within this invasive species, sampling was carried out in June 2012 and May 2013 in the Aegean and Thrace regions, respectively. Body-form variability in sampled populations of L. gibbosus was investigated using landmark-based geometric morphometrics. The sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (CO1) genes of eight species crabs of Grapsoidea were determined and analyzed in this paper. The traditional classification is that Grapsidae contains four subfamilies comprising Grapsinae, Varuninae, Sesarminae, and Plagusiinae, which are also treated as families in some studies. Afrolaophonte pori was originally described from the interstitial habitats of Israel and subsequently reported from Italy and the Aegean coasts of Turkey. It is the only representative of the genus in the Mediterranean Sea. It is thought that Spalacidae (Rodentia, Mammalia) originated in Anatolia. They are widespread among Neogene-aged faunas in Anatolia and they are used as zonal fossils because of their strong evolutionary dynamics. Only one fossil species (S. odessanus, Middle Pliocene) has been identified from the genus Spalax, which has more than 14 species presently. There are no fossil findings of this genus in Anatolia. Early Pleistocene-aged Spalax denizliensis sp. nov. from the Denizli Basin is the youngest fossil Spalax species and it will be helpful to understand the evolution of recent Spalax species.

Lagoons are valuable ecosystems providing various services, such as fishing, recreational activities, and land reclamation, as well as hosting high biodiversity. Although lagoons in Turkey cover a coastal area of more than 36,000 ha, few studies of them have been conducted. Earthworms are present in all types of soil. Changes in land use influence populations of earthworms. However, information on the dynamics of earthworm populations in northern Cameroon is not available. This paper highlights the research carried out on the abundance, biomass, and diversity of earthworm populations throughout four types of land use in northern Cameroon. Earthworms were sampled throughout the rainy season in three regions, across pastures, woody savannahs, grass savannahs, and fields, using formaldehyde and hand sorting. A new species, Surazomus rafaeli sp. nov., is described based on a male from the State of Rondonia, Brazil. It is characterized by a long, pointed, and curved ventral projection on the pedipalp femur, and a short and conical ventral projection on the pedipalp patella. Moreover, the male flagellum has Vm5 distant from Vl1, lacks Dl2, and the middle portion of the flagellum's depression is raised and bearing Dm4.

Hirundichthys rondeletii is among the three flyingfish species showing distribution in the Turkish seas. However, the egg stages of Exocoetidae species found in the Turkish waters have not been documented. Flyingfish eggs were randomly obtained on 16 July 2016 on the coast of Gümüldür, at a depth of approximately 1 m from a sandy bottom. Samples were fixed in a 4% buffered formaldehyde solution. The eggs were described and illustrated. The diameters of spherical fish eggs were between 1.75 mm and 2.05 mm. Edible dormice have to accumulate an adequate amount of body fat before hibernation. Because young dormice are born late in the season, they have a relatively short time for prehibernation fattening. The aim of our study was a) to determine what body mass juveniles reach prior to hibernation, and b) to examine patterns of mass gain in juvenile dormice with unlimited food supply. Black stork nestlings were measured (wing, bill, head, and tarsus lengths) at weekly intervals in central Poland in 2012, 2014, and 2015. The aim of the study was to provide growth equations based on nestling measurements to allow age estimation of black stork nestlings. The hatching hour and date of nestlings in five nests were determined using trail cameras. The age of the measured nestlings ranged from 18 to 53 days. The freshwater sponge collections of the National Museum of Natural History of Madrid were examined and the presence of Eunapius carteri (Bowerbank, 1863) in the Iberian Peninsula was rediscovered. An approach to its ecology is also presented. This species is not currently considered within the Iberian and Western European fauna. Therefore, its rediscovery changes the conception of this species' biogeographical distribution in Europe linked to its ecology.

The colonial ascidian Aplidium tabarquense Ramos-Espla 1991 was recorded in Montenegro during a monitory survey carried out by scuba divers on an underwater outfall of the wastewater discharge system in Traste Bay. Several colonies were present on artificial substrata at a depth of 27 m. This is the first record of the species in the South Adriatic Sea. Further observations are recommended both to delineate the effective distribution and population density of A. tabarquense in the Mediterranean Sea and to widen the knowledge on ascidian diversity along Montenegro's coasts.

This study investigated the prevalence of infection, and some of its morphological features, of the land snails Xerolenta obvia, Zebrina detrita, and Monacha samsunensis (Mollusca: Pulmonata) by metacercariae of Brachylaima sp. (Trematoda: Brachylaimidae) in Kastamonu, Turkey. The land snails were collected in spring and autumn. The prevalence rates of infection by metacercariae of Brachylaima sp. were 5.74%, 1.68%, and 17.35% in X. obvia, Z. detrita, and M. samsunensis, respectively. This study reports for the first time the natural occurrence of Brachylaima sp. unencysted metacercariae in the hepatopancreas of these three land snails.

Here we report a new winter crane fly (Trichoceridae) species, belonging to the subgenus Metatrichocera Dahl, 1966 from Bulgaria. Further records of Metatrichocera Dahl from Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia are presented with illustrations and taxonomic remarks. The records of Trichocera (Metatrichocera) forcipula Nielsen, 1920 and Trichocera (Metatrichocera) ticina Stary & Podenas, 1995 represent the first records of Trichoceridae from Serbia.

Variations in the population of lancelets inhabiting Chabahar Bay were surveyed statistically. Multivariate analysis of the Iranian Branchiostoma population using 5 morphometric characteristics indicates no separation of populations by locality in the study area (ANOSIM global; R = 0.2). Principal component analysis of the mean values of the 5 meristic characteristics of the present population with those of conspecifics of other populations around the world showed that Iranian lancelet populations are very similar to B. lanceolatum and completely different from the B. arabia and B. belcheri previously reported in adjacent waters (ANOSIM for pairwise tests; R = 1). The Evolutionary Trend Of Platform Denticulation In Middle Triassic Acuminate Gondolellidae (Conodonta), Pablo Plasencia, Ali̇ Murat Kiliç, Aymon Baud, Milan Sudar, Francis Hirsch

Acuminate Middle-Late Triassic Gondolellidae are characterized by an ellipsoid platform with a central to posterior amygdaloid basal cavity and an octomembrate apparatus of gondolelloid affinity. Starting with a neospathodiform proteromorph during the Anisian, their anagenetic lineage developed during the Fassanian, Longobardian, and Julian, ending in another neospathodiform proteromorph. As the increase in complexity in the platform denticulation is an important evolutionary trend, three new genera are proposed: Guexispathodus n. gen., Marquezella n. gen., and Kirilella n. gen., which, together with Pseudofurnishius and Mosherella, represent the subfamily Marquezellinae n. subfam.

Peripheral blood and haematopoiesis in bone marrow and liver tissue were investigated in Bufo bufo during the sexual cycle. A combined touch and imprinting tissue method were applied for the haematopoietic cell isolation. The liver is the primary site of erythropoiesis and partial lymphopoiesis. There was a positive correlation between body mass and liver mass, but it was not significant (P > 0.05). The primary role of yellow bone marrow is the maturation of haematopoietic cells, while red bone marrow is responsible for the production of blood cells. Lagoon Bardawil, belonging to the few hypersaline lagoons in the Mediterranean Sea, is located in the middle of the Sinai coast. Composition, distribution, and seasonal dynamics of large planktonic tintinnids and foraminifera at 12 stations in the lagoon were studied in 2009 and 2010. Fifteen species of Ciliophora (Tintinnina) and two species of Foraminifera were identified. Habitat conditions may shape the abundance and community structure of planktonic fauna. In this study, we investigated whether reservoirs with different locations and drainage basins also differed in the structure and abundance of zooplankton. The studies were conducted in 2010-2011 between June and October in the Vistula Lagoon and Lake Lebsko. The zooplankton was dominated mainly by small eurytopic organisms belonging to Rotifera. Plankton crustaceans showed a limited diversity of species. Copepods were predominant, while Cladocera were observed sporadically in more freshwater habitats. Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV) are typical retroviruses that are transmitted horizontally among felines. FIV results in symptoms of immunodeficiency such as weight loss, chronic lesions, opportunistic infections, and neurological abnormalities, while FeLV is known to cause a variety of neoplastic and nonneoplastic diseases in cats, such as thymic lymphoma, multicentric lymphoma myelodysplastic syndromes, acute myeloid leukemia, aplastic anemia, and immunodeficiency. The first comprehensive checklist of mayflies (Ephemeroptera) of Georgia is provided based on literature data supplemented by our unpublished data, including extensive samples in 2013-2017, works with the collections and types, faunistic observations, and taxonomical contributions. Records of 75 species are provided, with one species reported as a new finding for the country. Notes about the taxonomic status of several species are given. The present contribution represents the first publication of this kind for mayflies within the whole Caucasus area.

Mesopolobus quadrimaculatus Dzhanokmen (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) is recorded for the first time from China and outside of Kazakhstan. It was reared from galls of Stefaniola sp. (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) on black saxaul, Haloxylon ammodendron (C.A.Mey.) Bunge ex Fenzl and white saxaul, H. persicum (Bunge ex Boiss. & Buhse) (Chenopodiaceae) in Beishawo Desert in Fukang, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. The biochemical blood parameters of 22 (7 foraging, 7 nesting, and 8 injured) loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) from the southwest coast of Turkey were investigated. A total of 27 blood variables were analyzed in three groups (plasma enzymes, plasma metabolites, and plasma ions), and 4 steroid hormones: testosterone (T), estradiol (E2), progesterone (Pro), and corticosterone (B). Triglyceride, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, very low-density lipoprotein, magnesium, and phosphorus were higher in nesting females; urea was high in foraging individuals; and sodium, potassium, and chloride were lower while estradiol levels were higher in injured individuals.
