Assessment Of The Incubation Period For Each Sex Of Turkish Semiwild Northern Bald Ibis (Geronticus Eremita), Ahmet Kiliç, Ersi̇n Uysal

The semiwild population of Northern Bald Ibises (Geronticus eremita) at Birecik, Turkey, are the final representatives of the Eastern population of the species in the Middle East, apart from a few captive birds in Turkish zoos. This study took place between 2012 and 2015. Breeding is highly synchronized among the colony and incubation behavior was monitored for multiple nests throughout the day. Differences were found when incubation duty period was examined according to sex. In 2013, the incubation period varied significantly between males and females (F = 71.059, P < 0.001). The female incubated eggs for 178.42 min per day on average, while the male incubated for 233.69 min per day on average. A significant difference in incubation was determined between males and females (F = 91.260, P < 0.001) in 2014. Females sat on eggs for 188.06 min on average, while males sat on eggs for 244.13 min on average. In 2015 the incubation period varied significantly by sex, similar to previous years (F = 79.871, P < 0.001). The female incubated for 159.66 min in average, while the male incubated for 223.07 min on average.

Despite their comparative richness and accessibility in the Republic of Srpska and in Bosnia and Herzegovina in general, population studies of reptiles have not been performed in Srpska until recently. For example, one of the most common snake species in this area is the dice snake; nevertheless, previous studies have only reported its distribution. The aim of the present study was to analyze characteristics of the dice snake population along the Vrbanja River. Animals were processed during 2011 throughout their activity period. Sciaridae or the dark-winged fungus gnats fauna of southern and eastern Europe is very poorly known. A total of 29 species were identified from Romania, of which 20 species are reported here for the first time from the country. An updated checklist of dark-winged fungus gnats (Sciaridae) of Romania is provided. DNA barcodes of 39 specimens belonging to 21 species were successfully sequenced, of which some were previously unknown or undetected.

Gonadal Development And Fecundity Of Bogue Boops Boops (Linnaeus, 1758) (Sparidae) On The Central Algerian Coast, Soumia Amira, Zakia Alioua, Kamel Harchouche

Boops boops sexuality was studied in 664 females, 201 males, and 103 hermaphrodites collected from central Algerian coast ports between December 2013 and November 2014. Histoanatomical observations were performed to describe the sexual pattern of B. boops. Observation of the evolution of sexual maturity stages as well as the gonadosomatic report have established the breeding period of B. boops as between February and June. The B. boops population fished here is in favor of females, with a percentage of 76.76% against 23.34% for males. Thus, the female to male ratio (F:M) of the sample was calculated as 1:3.3. Messor creticus sp. nov. is described as a new endemic species to Crete. Revised data for members of the Messor structor complexes are given and updated checklist of Greek Messor taxa is provided.

Stone moroko (Pseudorasbora parva) is considered to be one of the most invasive fishes, dispersing rapidly all over Europe and also in the freshwaters of the Baltic Sea basin. A recent survey carried out in the catchment of the lower part of the Odra River (Poland) in 2015 and 2016 revealed a large new population of stone moroko, which had colonized the creek Wardynka. Within its range, the Caspian green lizard, Lacerta strigata, occurs in the Elburz Mountains (northern Iran) at elevations from below sea level to approximately 2700 m a.s.l. To determine the environmental factors affecting the distribution of this lizard, we used an ensemble approach to model the distribution of the Caspian green lizard (Lacerta strigata) in Iran using four algorithms (generalized boosted model, maximum entropy, generalized linear model, random forest). Anthrenus (Anthrenodes) himalayensis sp. nov., a new dermestid species from Kashmir Himalayas, India is described, illustrated, and compared with similar species. The new species is closest to A. occultus Háva, 2006 and A. katrinkrauseae Háva, 2018 but differs by the structure of antennae, male genitalia, and scale pattern.

Despite advances in oceanographic investigations in the Indian Ocean, zooplankton ecology is still poorly known from the open waters of the Bay of Bengal. In order to understand the vertical and horizontal distribution of zooplankton in the Bay of Bengal during spring intermonsoon, stratified sampling was conducted using a multiple plankton net. We found that higher zooplankton biomass was often associated with mesoscale cold-core eddies. Rhodanthidium ordonezi (Dusmet, 1815) is recognized here as a valid species endemic to central and southern Morocco. It has previously been regarded as a subspecies of R. sticticum (Fabricius). The two taxa are in allopatry throughout most of their respective ranges, but probably cooccur in the Middle Atlas Mountains. They are clearly distinguished by their coloration and some aspects of their color patterns. Structural differences are minor, but a multivariate discriminant function analysis of 11 morphometric traits has showed that these are sufficient to assign 82.7% of all specimens correctly. Zooplankton samples were collected from water wells in Kuyubeli village (Kozan, Adana, Turkey). A total of 24 zooplanktonic species were identified, including 13 rotifers, 9 copepods, and 2 cladocerans. The genus Speocyclops was reported for the first time from Turkish inland waters.

This study was performed in order to determine the Braconidae fauna of meadows and forest areas around Gala Lake National Park. Samples were collected from June to October 2011 in selected pasture, forest, and rice agricultural areas. As a result of the study, a total of 38 taxa species belonging to 12 genera within 5 subfamilies were identified. In the present study, scanning electron microscopy was used to investigate the ultrastructure of sensilla present on the antennae of male and female Zygogramma bicolorata. The antennae in this insect consist of the scape, pedicel, and nine flagellomeres. Six types of sensilla were identified: sensilla trichodea type 1 and 2 (ST1, ST2), sensilla cavitae (SCa), sensilla chaetica (SCh), and sensilla basiconica type 1 and 2 (SB1, SB2). We report here that earthworm can be used as an in vivo system to prescreen antimitotic compounds. The known antimitotic compound colchicine and the aqueous extract of Acorus calamus L. rhizome were used to examine this system. The antimitotic activity of colchicine and the rhizome extract was confirmed by methods with Allium cepa root tip, earthworm regeneration, and MTT (3-(4,5-dimethyl thiazolyl-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide). An earthworm regeneration assay examined the regeneration ability of tissues from amputated regions of the earthworm. During the ongoing partial taxonomic revision of the genus Echinolaophonte on the basis of populations previously collected from various shores of the Turkish coasts, a new species of Echinolaophonte was discovered and named Echinolaophonte mordoganensis sp. nov. The new species is morphologically most closely related to E. minuta and E. veniliae. A New Brachineurini Genus And Two New Species(Diptera: Cecidomyiidae: Cecidomyiinae) From Yunnan, China, Ke-Long Jiao, Hao Wang, Wen-Jun Bu

A new free-living genus of the mycophagous tribe Brachineurini, Loborrhizomyia gen. nov., and its type species (Loborrhizomyia phaneroectata sp. nov.) and another new species (Loborrhizomyia aphanata sp. nov.) are described from the Caiyang River Nature Reserve, Pu?er, Yunnan, China. The new genus is characterized in the tribe Brachineurini by the unique gonostylus having a ventral lobe protruding to the distal. The taxonomic status of the new genus and two new species is discussed with a comparison between the other related groups and an updated key to all known Brachineurini genera including the new genus is provided.

Hydroacoustic surveys are one of the prime methods to assess the commercially top-ranked small pelagic stocks. The method relies on acoustic scattering from a fish, which is largely controlled by the size and morphology of the swimbladder. In this study, the changes in the size of the European anchovy swimbladder sampled in the Black Sea were investigated. There is great variation in the conservation status of the last habitats with long-term natural viable populations of the salmon species Hucho hucho in Maramureş Mountains Nature Park, Eastern Carpathians (Romania). The purpose of this study was to determine the histological structure of the kidney of Pelophylax bedriagae and the distribution of hyaluronic acid (HA) in the kidney tissue. The kidneys of P. bedriagae are long, brown, ribbon-like structures covered with connective tissue. Nephrons, the functional units of the kidney, consist of the renal corpuscle, proximal and distal tubules, collecting tubule, and collecting duct. The renal corpuscle is composed of the glomerulus and Bowman?s capsule. There is no structure similar to Henle?s loop, which is found in higher vertebrates. A New Erigonine Genus From The Nepal Himalayas (Araneae, Linyphiidae), Andrei V. Tanasevitch

A new genus, Parbatthorax gen. nov., with P. unicornis sp. nov. as type species, is described from the Nepal Himalayas. The genus is characterized by the highly modified palpal tibia and the paracymbium, as well as by the peculiar structure of the embolic division, which contains a convector.

First Record Of The Genus Spilomyia (Diptera, Syrphidae) From The Oriental Region, Aijaz Ahmad Wachkoo, Jeroen Van Steenis, Zubair Ahmad Rather, Jayita Sengupta, Dhriti Banerjee

Spilomyia manicata (Rondani, 1865) is reported as a new genus and species record from India and the Oriental region. A brief diagnosis, images, and comparison with allied species are provided to scientifically validate this new faunal record from the Indian subcontinent and to facilitate its prompt identification. The species shows rare distribution across its range, and various factors pose a threat to the existence of this large pollinator species. Therefore, the documentation of this species assumes significance for devising conservation strategies and sustainable management.

The total number of hemocytes and their morphological characteristics were analyzed in Helix pomatia Linnaeus, 1758, by light microscopy during different phases of hibernation. Three types of hemocytes were identified: hyalinocytes, agranulocytes, and granulocytes. Total number of hemocytes decreased significantly during hibernation. Most intensive changes in cell size, morphology, and appearance of special structures in granulocytes happened during the hibernation period itself. Termination of hibernation coincides with very important granulocyte transformation and the appearance of specific gigantic short-lived cells. The Basra Reed-warbler (Acrocephalus griseldis) is an endangered songbird that breeds in the reed beds of southern Mesopotamia. Hydrological projects, war, and drought have greatly reduced the breeding habitat of this species, making its future uncertain. The first Basra Reed-warbler for Turkey was caught in a mist net on 22 May 2018 at the Aras River Ornithological Research Station, between the provinces of Kars and Iğdır. This represents one of only a few vagrant records in the eastern Mediterranean, and the northernmost record to date.
