A Contribution To The Knowledge Of Tenthredinidae (Symphyta, Hymenoptera) Fauna Of Turkey Part Ii: Subfamilies Blennocampinae, Dolerinae, Nematinae And Selandrinae, Önder Çalmaşur, Hi̇kmet Özbek

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In the second part of this contribution to the fauna of the typical sawfly, Tenthredinidae in Turkey, the subfamilies Blennocampinae, Dolerinae, Nematinae and Selandrinae are discussed. Twenty-seven species in 13 genera of Blennocampinae, 7 species in 2 genera of Dolerinae, 9 species in 6 genera of Nematinae, and 4 species in 4 genera of Selandrinae, a total of 47 species, are recorded. Of these, 7 species were new to the Turkish fauna. New data on geographical distribution and host plants are given for some species. For each species, a chorotype is reported.

Taxonomic Status And Distribution Of Apodemus Mystacinus (Danford And Alston, 1877) (Mammalia: Rodentia) In Turkey, Ercüment Çolak, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t, Reyhan Çolak, Mustafa Sözen, Şaki̇r Özkurt, Tolga Kankiliç

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Morphological, biometrical, karyological, bacular and phallic aspects of Apodemus mystacinus populations in Turkey were studied based on 117 specimens. The biometrical and phallic comparisons confirmed the distinctness of A. m. mystacinus and A. m. epimelas. The UPGMA tree divided populations in Turkey into 2 groups. The distance (D) between A. m. mystacinus and A. m. euxinus was 0.469. A. mystacinus had karyotypic values of 2n = 48, NFa = 50, and NF = 52. Being different from A. m. epimelas, there was a short groove in the dorsal view of the phallus in populations of A. m. mystacinus in Turkey.

A New Rumen Ciliate From The Turkish Domestic Goat (Capra Hircus L.): Entodinium Salmani N.Sp. (Entodiniidae, Entodiniomorphida), Bayram Göçmen, Sami̇ye Rastgeldi̇

In the course of examining rumen contents obtained from 8 domestic goats (Capra hircus L.) from the south-east of Turkey, a new ciliate species Entodinium salmani n.sp. (Entodiniidae, Entodiniomorphida) and 4 formae [E. salmani salmani n.sp., n.f., E. salmani monospinosum n.sp., n.f., E. salmani bispinosum n.sp., n.f., E. salmani trispinosum n.sp., n.f.] were distinguished. The main characteristics of these species and formae are described in detail and compared with those of similar ones previously reported.

This study focused on the crustacean fauna of Cystoseira facies in the upper infralittoral zone of the Turkish Aegean coast. Investigations were carried out at 9 stations along a depth gradient of 2 to 5 m in June and July 1995. A total of 2179 specimens belonging to 81 species were identified. Among the species encountered, Ampithoe ramondi was the most common, with a dominance value of 11%, followed by Leptochelia savignyi (7%). Caprella rapax is recorded for the first time from the Aegean coast of Turkey; Corophium acutum, Corophium rotundirostre and Hippolyte varians are new records for the entire …

This study aimed to contribute to the knowledge of Turkish Malacostraca fauna by determining the Malacostraca (Crustacea) fauna of Yuvarlak Stream. Monthly sampling was performed at 10 stations along the stream between May 2001 and April 2002. Eleven taxa were determined; of these, 5 (Gammarus balcanicus, Gammarus longipedis, Echinogammarus antalyae, Corophium orientale and Orchestia platensis) belong to Amphipoda, 3 (Palaemonetes antennarius, Atyaephyra desmarestii orientalis and Potamon potamios) to Decapoda, 2 (Lekanesphaera hookeri and Cyathura carinata) to Isopoda and 1 (Diamysis mesohalobia mesohalobia) to Mysidacea.

Gambusia affinis, Baird & Girard, 1853, originally comes from North America and has been distributed all over the world for the biological control of mosquitoes. This study aimed to determine some biological properties, such as structure, age, growth and reproduction of the populations of G. affinis in Turkey. For this purpose, between November 1998 and October 1999, 2026 mosquitofish were caught in the wetlands of Fethiye-Akgöl, Dalaman and Ortaca in Muğla province in the western Mediterranean region of Turkey and the data found were compared. A Karyological Analysis Of Garra Rufa (Heckel, 1843) (Pisces, Cyprinidae) From The Eastern Mediterranean River Basin In Turkey, Serap Ergene Gözükara, Tolga Çavaş

A cytogenetic investigation on 12 Garra rufa (Heckel, 1843) specimens, from Müftü stream, was carried out by a slight modification of the conventional air-dried technique, using gill epithelial cells. The diploid chromosome number of this species was 2n = 44, comprising 22 metacentric and 20 submetacentric chromosomes and 2 acrocentric chromosome carrying satellites (NF = 85). A haploid idiogram, based on the chromosome measurements, was prepared. A detailed standard karyotype of G. rufa was established for the first time in this study.

In order to determine the Malacostraca fauna of water bodies in the Taurus Mountains, southern Anatolia, 2 field studies were conducted in 1996 and 1997. As a result, Asellus aquaticus (L. 1758), Gammarus balcanicus Schäferna 1922, Gammarus longipedis G.S. Karaman & Pinkster 1987 and Stygobromus ambulans (F. Müller 1846) were determined from the investigated area. All the determined taxa are recorded for the first time from these localities.

Through 10 monthly sampling, a total of 7434 water mites belonging to 24 species and 9 families from Lake Çapalı were caught and identified. Of these, Piona variabilis and Arrenurus batillifer are new records for the Turkish fauna. Besides the index of species diversity, frequency analysis and the ecological characters of the study area, constant, associated, euconstant, influent and accidental species were determined.

Cultivated and non-cultivated areas were surveyed between 1999 and 2000 for coccoid fauna in Ankara, Afyon, Burdur and Isparta provinces. Nineteen species from 11 genera belonging to Pseudococcidae were found. Among these Chaetococcus phragmitis (Marchal, 1909), Phenacoccus bicerarius Borchsenius, 1949, Phenacoccus evelinae Tereznikova, 1968, Puto pilosellae (Sulc, 1898), Puto superbus (Leonardi, 1907), Rhodania porifera Goux, 1935, and Spinococcus morrisoni (Kritchenko, 1935) were new records for Turkish fauna.

The morphometric measurements of 10 taxonomically important characters, and the coloration features of the 8 subspecies of Mertensiella luschani were investigated and statistical analyses were carried out. Male and female specimens of Brachypoda mutila and male specimens of Bandakia concreta collected from a seepage spring in West Anatolia are described. Their morphological features are compared with those of the most closely related species. Identification keys to the species known from the Palearctic of the genera Bandakia and Brachypoda are provided.

The study was carried out on 89 specimens representing 11 bat species, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, R. hipposideros, R. euryale, Myotis brandtii, M. bechsteinii, M. myotis, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, P. kuhlii, Nyctalus leisleri, Plecotus auritus and Miniopterus schreibersii. The specimens were collected from the eastern Black Sea region between the 1992 and 1994. Some ecological features of the species and their localities are presented in this study.

Two species of Aulodrilus, A. pigueti and A. pluriseta, collected from Sakarbaşı, Enne, Margıalan and Kuşbaşlı creeks (parts of the upper Sakarya river system), are new records for the Turkish Potamofauna. In addition, the genus Aulodrilus is also new for the Anatolian fauna. Their morphological features were examined under a scanning electron microscope and light microscope and diagrams of them were drawn.

On The Distribution, Taxonomy And Karyology Of The Genus Plecotus (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) In Turkey, Ahmet Karataş, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t, Ercüment Çolak, Tolga Kankiliç

Plecotus auritus and Plecotus austriacus were recorded from 8 and 3 localities in the Asiatic part of Turkey, respectively. It was determined that the length of the first premolar, the shape of the zygomatic arches and baculum distinguish these taxa from each other. Apart from these morphological characteristics, the tibia length of P. austriacus was found to be significantly greater than that of P. austriacus (P < 0.05). The diploid chromosome numbers were identical in both taxa (2n = 32). The number of chromosomal arms (FN = 54) and the number of autosomal chromosomal arms (FNa = 50) were the same as in previously published papers on P. austriacus.

The egg batches with parasitoids of the sunn pest Eurygaster sp. (Hemiptera: Scutelleridae) were collected to determine the egg parasitoid Trissolcus species (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) of the pest from cereal areas in Turkey. In total, eight Trissolcus species, namely T. simoni Mayr, T. vassilievi Mayr, T. semistriatus Nees, T. grandis Thompson, T. manteroi Kieffer, T. pseudoturesis Rjachovsky, T. rufiventris Mayr and T. djadetshko Rjachovsky, are recognized. T. djadetshko Rjachovsky and T. manteroi Kieffer are new species for the Turkish fauna. The species are described and an identification key is provided.

Twenty-two (12 males, 10 females) specimens of Nannospalax nehringi, collected from Northeast Anatolia (Turkey), were used for morphological and karyological studies. The specimens from the Kars population have foramina on the premaxillonasal suture. These foramina are absent in the Erzurum, Ağrı and Van populations. The diploid number of chromosomes in the Erzurum and Kars population is 2n = 50. The number of chromosomal arms (NF) is 70 and the number of autosomal arms (NFa) is 66. Urfacus bozovaensis gen. et sp. nov. of the Entodontinae (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) are described. The specimens were swept from a wheat field together with many specimens of Haplothrips tritici Kurdj. (Thysanoptera, Phleothripidae) in Bozova, Şanlıurfa, Turkey. The diagnostic characters of the taxa are illustrated and the taxonomic position of the genus and species is discussed.

The karyological, bacular and phallic aspects of Apodemus iconicus Heptner, 1948, in Turkey were examined for the first time. The diploid number of chromosomes was 2n = 48, the number of autosomal arms was NFa = 46, and the fundamental number was NF = 48. The X chromosome was large acrocentric, and the Y chromosome was small acrocentric. The baculum was composed of a distal and proximal part, the average length of which was 3.74 mm. The phallus showed two notches near the crater, and a groove extending along the phallus on the ventral side.

Animals were assigned to four age groups according to molar wear, field notes and external and cranial measurements. Six days-old animals were referred to newborn, up to 30 days as young and thereafter as adult; animals with very worn molars were considered old. This study was carried out to determine Eimeria infection in goats in nine different districts in Van province in Turkey. Faecal samples (approximately 3-5 g) were obtained from the rectums of 242 goats. The samples were examined by Sheather's sugar flotation technique and determined microscopically for the presence of oocysts. Eimeria species were identified following sporulation of faeces in a thin layer of 2.5% potassium dichromate for one or two weeks at 25 ºC. The faeces of 464 horses and 110 donkeys were cOllected and examined by the flotation, sedimentation and Baermenn-Wetzel methods in a parasitology laboratory. The examinations showed that 327 of 464 (70.5%) horses and 85 of 110 (77.3%) donkeys were infected with the following species: in horses, Strongylidae sp. 62.7%, Strongyloides westeri 5.8%, Parascaris equorum 3.2%, Anoplocephalidae sp. 2.4 %, Fasciola hepatica 0.9%, Oxyuris equi 0.6%, and Paranoplocephala mamillana 0.2%; and in donkeys; Strongylidae sp. 72.7%, Strongyloides westeri 13.6%, Parascaris equorum 2.7%, Fasciola hepatica 0.9%, Oxyuris equi 0.9% and Dicrocoelium dendriticum 0.9%.

Ellobius lutescens is the only species of the genus Ellobius living in eastern Anatolia. They are highly adapted to underground life. There is no knowledge about the ecological peculiarities, population structures or detailed range of this species in Turkey. A large number of molluscan shells were collected from the seas of Turkey (the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea, the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea) and examined to determine their species and to point out the species found in each sea. Twenty-four (16 male, 8 female) specimens of the Mediterranean spur-thighed tortoise Testudo graeca were examined from Mardin, southeastern Turkey. For morphological comparisons, 15 morphometric characters and 31 ratios developed by combinations of straight carapace length (SCL) and straight carapace width (SCW) were investigated. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of Mallophaga species on wild partridges in the Elazığ region. We inspected 68 partridges for Mallophaga species between November and January from 1996 to 2000. At least one species of Mallophaga was found on 48 partridges. Three species of Mallophaga were found on infested partridges. These species, were Goniodes dispar (Burmeister, 1838), Goniocotes pusillus (Nitzch in Giebel, 1866) and Menacanthus lyali (Rodriguez Caabeiro et al.,1983). These three Mallophaga species have not been reported before in Turkey.
