In order to determine the Braconidae fauna of Turkey, adult specimens of Opiinae were collected from various habitats of the Turkish northeastern Anatolian region using Malaise and light traps and sweeping nets between 2012 and 2014. The pine processionary moths Thaumetopoea pityocampa and T. Wilkinsoni are among the most important Mediterranean pine defoliators. The Genus Macrocheles Latreille (Acari: Mesostigmata: Macrochelidae) From Kelkit Valley (Turkey), With Three Newly Recorded Mite Species, Hasan Hüseyi̇n Özbek, Durmuş Ali̇ Bal, Sali̇h Doğan

This survey was carried out on the genus Macrocheles in Kelkit Valley, Turkey, during 2007-2012. Seven species, M. Muscaedomesticae (Scopoli, 1772); M. Glaber (Müller, 1860); M. Perglaber Filipponi and Pegazzano, 1962; M. Scutatus (Berlese, 1904); M. Merdarius (Berlese, 1889); M. Subbadius (Berlese, 1904); and M. Robustulus (Berlese, 1904), were recorded from the valley. M. Perglaber, M. Scutatus, and M. Subbadius are first records for the Turkish fauna. Original drawings and diagnoses for all known species of the genus from the valley are included. In addition, an identification key to the Turkish species of Macrocheles is provided here.

The locality of Hayranlı-Sivas is situated in the central Anatolian plateau (Sivas, Turkey) and includes many fossil remains, including carnivores collected from 2 different spots. The aim of this study is to contribute to knowledge of carnivore evolution in Turkey based on the fossil specimens in Hayranlı-Sivas. The studied collection indicates the presence of the following taxa: Hyaenictitherium wongii, Hyaenictitherium intuberculatum, Lycyaena dubia, and Machairodus giganteus. L. Dubia is the first record from Anatolia. The material of each taxon was described and determined by comparison with other materials from various Eurasian localities. The distribution of crustaceans in 3 transects (İskenderun, Mersin, and Anamur bays, including depths of 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, and 200 m) located within Turkish coastal borders of the Cilician shelf was studied between 2005 and 2007 to show the association with habitat types, eutrophication level, and depth-dependent environmental parameters in representative months of each season (winter, spring, summer, and autumn). Two New Records Of The Genus Prozercon Sellnick, 1943 (Acari: Zerconidae) From Turkey, Mehmet Karaca, Raşi̇t Urhan

Morphological features of Prozercon bulbiferus Ujvari, 2011 and Prozercon graecus Ujvari, 2011, which are new records for the Turkish fauna, are given with drawings. Deutonymph members of P. Bulbiferus are described and illustrated for the first time. Information about habitat and distribution for each species is also provided. Additionally, a key to species of the genus Prozercon known from Turkey is given. Both species are found in the Thrace region of Turkey.

The parasitic wasp Blacus (Blacus) forticornis Haeselbarth, 1973 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Blacinae) is reported as a new record for the fauna of Turkey. The specimen of the species was collected by sweeping from an alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) field in Erzurum Province.

This study was conducted to contribute to the Turkish oak gall wasp fauna (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae). Oak cynipid galls were collected between 2011 and 2013 from different regions of Turkey; we found that Andricus assarehi, A. Coriariformis, A. Csokai, A. Glandulae, Andricus legitimus, A. Paradoxus, A. Sadeghii, A. Serotinus, A. Stellatus, A. Trotteri, Cynips longiventris, and Trigonaspis megaptera were new to the Turkish Cynipidae fauna. A new distribution range is also provided for the previously recorded gall wasp species Andricus pseudoaries.

The lacertid lizard Podarcis tauricus tauricus is recorded from Yörükköy, Düzce Province, in the western Black Sea region. With the record of the present study, the known distribution area of the subspecies has been extended about 90 km eastward. The pholidolial and morphometric characters and color-pattern features of the specimens were compared with specimens from a known Turkish locality with regard to the literature. We observed that the specimens of the Yörükköy population were similar to P. T. Tauricus specimens reported in the literature.

A Comparative Study Of The Reproductive Activities Of European Hare (Lepus Europaeus) Populations In Turkey, Yasi̇n Demi̇rbaş, İrfan Albayrak

To explore whether the reproductive cycle of Lepus europaeus differs within Turkey, a total of 182 hares from Turkish Thrace (transition climate), Central Anatolia (continental climate), the Black Sea (oceanic climate), and the Turkish Mediterranean (Mediterranean climate) were collected between June 2006 and September 2014. We present the length of breeding season, sex ratio, mean litter size, and testicle position of European hares distributed in Turkey for the first time. Among these features, length of breeding season and mean litter size of European hares showed moderate variation in Turkey.

In this study, we report 2 new close localities for Eumeces schneideri from Aydın, western Anatolia, Turkey. The specimens were examined morphologically and compared with the relevant literature. These new localities have filled in the gap in the species' distribution range in western Anatolia, Turkey. According to the morphological results, the female specimens resembled E. S. Barani in terms of the scales along the dorsal midline. However, the color-pattern characteristics of the specimens were found to be somewhere between E. S. Barani and E. S. Princeps; thus, the specimens were accepted as E. S. Cf. Barani.

The census of shallow-water sponges from the northern Aegean and Marmara sea coasts resulted in the collection of 10 species of Demospongiae. A new Hymedesmia species, Hymedesmia (Hymedesmia) anatoliensis sp. Nov., is described from the western coast of Turkey. Three further species of demosponges, Axinyssa aurantiaca (Schmidt, 1864), Halichondria (Halichondria) contorta (Sarà, 1961), and Dictyonella incisa (Schmidt, 1880), are new to the sponge fauna of Turkey.

Abacoproeces topcui sp. Nov. (Araneae: Linyphiidae) is described based on male specimens from Mersin Province in Turkey. Four species, namely Araeoncus tauricus Gnelitsa, 2005; Erigonoplus globipes (L. Koch, 1872); Megalepthyphantes pseudocollinus Saaristo, 1997; and Styloctetor romanus (O. P.-Cambridge, 1872), belonging to this family are new records for the spider fauna of Turkey. Styloctetor Simon, 1884 has been recorded as a new genus for Turkey. Data on collected localities, distribution throughout the world, and genitalia figures of each species are presented.

Reedbeds can be characterized as forming a transition between the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. They have distinctive animals adapted to living in aqueous conditions. Because of the lack of data on the mite fauna in marsh habitats of Turkey, this faunistic study was conducted in the Ekşisu Marshes, which resulted in collecting and determining 58 species and 36 genera belonging to 29 families. Species Records Of Ephemeroptera (Insecta) Nymphs In The Gediz River Basin With A New Record For The Turkish Fauna: Labiobaetis Atrebatinus Eaton, 1870, Caner Aydinli, Nesi̇l Ertorun

In this study, 3801 Ephemeroptera specimens were collected and identified from the Gediz River basin (Kütahya, Manisa, Uşak, and İzmir provinces) during 2011-2012. Twenty-three taxa belonging to 14 genera from 5 families were determined. All identified species from Uşak, Manisa, and İzmir and the 4 identified species from Kütahya are new records for the mentioned provinces. Moreover, Labiobaetis atrebatinus Eaton, 1870 is a new record for the Turkish Ephemeroptera fauna. As a result of this study, the number of the identified Ephemeroptera species from Turkey has increased to 147.

This study is based upon material of the family Cydnidae collected from different localities in Turkey between 1980 and 2012. A total of 13 species of 7 genera belonging to 2 subfamilies, Cydninae and Sehrinae, of the family Cydnidae were recorded from Turkey. Among them, Cydnus aterrimus (Forster, 1771), Macroscytus brunneus (Fabricius, 1803), Canthophorus dubius (Scopoli, 1763), and Tritomegas sexmaculatus (Rambur, 1839) have been found to be the most abundant and widespread species. Separately, Legnotus picipes (Fallén, 1807) is a new record for the Turkish fauna. In addition, new localities are added for some species previously reported for Turkey.

The rocky mouse, Apodemus mystacinus, is a rodent species distributed in Anatolia. A total of 108 specimens from 19 localities in Turkey were collected to study the molecular variation of A. Mystacinus inferred from RFLP of mtDNA cytochrome b (cytb) and D-loop. MboI, HaeIII, and RsaI from cytb digestion and MboI, BfaI, and HinfI from D-loop digestion showed differentiation among the studied specimens. The zooplankton composition of Lake Ladik, located in Samsun Province in northern Turkey, was investigated monthly between November 2009 and October 2010. Some physicochemical parameters such as temperature of surface water, pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, conductivity, and total dissolved solids were also evaluated. A total of 29 zooplankton species were identified. These species were represented by three main groups: Rotifera (59%), Cladocera (24%), and Copepoda (17%). The maximum and minimum numbers of species were found in July and October, respectively. We measured body size (snout-vent length, SVL) for three populations of Ommatotriton ophryticus newts in Turkey and estimated age using the skeletochronological method. Age was determined by counting the lines of arrested growth in cross-sections taken from phalanges. SVL was similar among populations and ranged between 58.41 and 85.78 mm in males and 50.33 and 71.56 mm in females. Males were significantly larger than females in all populations. Age at maturity was 4-6 years in males and 5-6 years in females. The average age of males and females did not differ significantly. Maximum age ranged from 9 to 12 years …

The reproduction, postnatal development, and social behaviors of the Transcaucasian mole vole (Ellobius lutescens) were studied in the laboratory in 2012/2013. The collected voles were kept in glass cages in captivity conditions and observations were made throughout the year. The litter size, gestation period, neonate weight, eye-opening, weaning, and earliest sexual maturity age were observed. Pups were born with 'nipple-seizing incisors'. These incisors were different from those of adults. The molars and normal incisor eruption appeared after 19-21 days. Females have three pairs of nipples. The relationships between size (length and width) of the lagenar (asteriscus) and the utricular (lapillus) otoliths and body length for five cyprinid fish species, freshwater bream Abramis brama, white bream Blicca bjoerkna, Prussian carp Carassius gibelio, brond-snout Chondrostoma regium, and rudd Scardinius erythrophthalmus, collected from Lake Ladik from November 2009 through October 2010, are presented. The right and left side measurements of otoliths were pooled in all cases except asteriscus length in Prussian carp. Forty-seven species belonging to 7 genera of Alticini are presented based on the investigations conducted on Davraz Mountain (Isparta). Host plant relationships of 24 species established from the area are listed. Brassicaceae, Scrophulariaceae, and Lamiaceae seem to be the most preferred host plant families among others. Three species from the genus Longitarsus Berthold - namely L. baeticus Leonardi, 1979; L. foudrasi Weise, 1893; and L. tabidus (Fabricius, 1775) - were sampled only from 1900 m and above on the mountain. Altitudinal gradients are an important variable in testing the life history traits (e.g., longevity, age at maturity, and body size) of organisms. In this study, the life history traits of the Anatolian lizard Apathya cappadocica were examined from 3 populations from different altitudes (Kilis, 697 m; Şanlıurfa, 891 m; Diyarbakır, 1058 m) from southeastern Anatolia, Turkey. Age structure was determined by using skeletochronology. Males in all populations were the larger sex; therefore, the populations showed male biases that were negative by the sexual size dimorphism index. Males in Diyarbakır (high altitude) were also younger than males in the other populations. …

In this study, age estimation using skeletochronology was done in 43 specimens (6 males, 29 females, 8 juv.) of Anatololacerta anatolica living in the vicinity of Çanakkale. When the cross-sections taken from phalanges were examined, the median age for the Çanakkale population was 4 years. The maximum age was calculated as 10 years for female individuals, and the maximum snout-vent length (SVL) of female individuals was measured as 74.18 mm. We studied the unusual wintering records of some rare pipit species during winter in Hatay Province, in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of Turkey. Through intensive field observations performed between 2007 and 2013, 8 pipit species were recorded in the province. Among the observations, 59 were unusual wintering records belonging to 5 pipit species. In this article, we present observations on frequency and seasonality of each pipit species observed in Hatay Province. A record of the Italian wall lizard, Podarcis siculus (Rafinesque-Schmaltz, 1810), from Atakum (Samsun, Central Black Sea Region) is provided in this study. In addition, 5 specimens (3 males and 2 females) from Atakum (Samsun) and 14 specimens (7 males and 7 females) from Gelibolu (Çanakkale, Thrace), with records provided recently, were evaluated in terms of measurements, pholidosis, and color and pattern. With the record from Samsun, the Italian wall lizard's distributional range has been extended about 360 km eastwards. The specimens examined from both localities were determined to resemble P. s. hieroglyphicus (Berthold, 1840), distributed in Thrace and Anatolia. …
