A reexamination of the tardigrade collection from the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN) in Madrid was carried out. Specimens from the genera Milnesium, Macrobiotus, and Paramacrobiotus were verified in order to provide their correct identification and 15 taxa were identified. Moreover, a list of corrected species identifications from MNCN is provided. Fourteen specimens and 16 eggs, identified previously as Macrobiotus recens, were attributed to a species new for science. Macrobiotus noemiae sp. nov. is most similar to Mac. naskreckii and Mac. recens but it differs from them by details of egg morphology, mainly by the presence of thin flexible …

Revision Of The Taxonomic Status Of Rhodanthidium Sticticum Ordonezi (Dusmet, 1915), An Anthidiine Bee Endemic To Morocco (Apoidea: Anthidiini), Max Kasparek, Patrick Lhomme

Rhodanthidium ordonezi (Dusmet, 1815) is recognized here as a valid species endemic to central and southern Morocco. It has previously been regarded as a subspecies of R. sticticum (Fabricius). The two taxa are in allopatry throughout most of their respective ranges, but probably cooccur in the Middle Atlas Mountains. They are clearly distinguished by their coloration and some aspects of their color patterns. Structural differences are minor, but a multivariate discriminant function analysis of 11 morphometric traits has showed that these are sufficient to assign 82.7% of all specimens correctly. Anthrenus (Anthrenodes) himalayensis sp. nov., a new dermestid species from Kashmir Himalayas, India is described, illustrated, and compared with similar species. The new species is closest to A. occultus Háva, 2006 and A. katrinkrauseae Háva, 2018 but differs by the structure of antennae, male genitalia, and scale pattern.

English: As a part of an ongoing project to inventory the helminth parasites of rodents in Mexico, 30 individuals of Aspiculuris americana were collected inhabiting the intestine from three specimens of the rock mouse Peromyscus difficilis, collected from Cerro Xihuingo, Municipality of Tepeapulco, Hidalgo State, Mexico. The purpose of our summer research is to compile results and trends observed in previous studies to better understand the function of auditory bullae, the variations in size and shape throughout the overlapping geographic distribution of Perognathus species, and the relationship between bullar size and climatic patterns. Our research found that there is a negative correlation between auditory bullae size and the amount of moisture in the habitat. Large and inflated auditory bullae are observed in arid and open habitats. A new freshwater ostracod genus, Comalcandona gen. nov., and its type species (Comalcandona tressleri sp. nov.) are described from John Knox Ranch, Comal County, Texas, USA. The new genus differs from the related genera in the presence of the shallow pits on the trapezoidal shape of the carapace and presence of one well-developed anterior claw (posterior claw and both anterior and posterior setae are absent) on the uropod, a diagnostic character. A New Species Of Surazomus Reddell And Cokendolpher, 1995 (Arachnida: Schizomida) From Rondonia, Brazil, Lidianne Salvatierra

A new species, Surazomus rafaeli sp. nov., is described based on a male from the State of Rondonia, Brazil. It is characterized by a long, pointed, and curved ventral projection on the pedipalp femur, and a short and conical ventral projection on the pedipalp patella. Moreover, the male flagellum has Vm5 distant from Vl1, lacks Dl2, and the middle portion of the flagellum's depression is raised and bearing Dm4.

Neriene nigripectoris (Oi, 1960) (Araneae, Linyphiidae) is redescribed and illustrated. Based on the genital conformation, we propose that N. nigripectoris be transferred to the genus Ketambea Millidge & Russell-Smith, 1992. Notes are given on distinguishing Neriene from Ketambea.

This paper presents the first results of a study on the Scaptognathus (Acari: Halacaridae) mites from the Mediterranean Sea coast of Turkey. Two species, S. hallezi Trouessart, 1894 and S. sabularius André, 1961, are newly recorded from Turkey. They are briefly described with drawings, habitats, and worldwide distributions. Additionally, a checklist is provided for the marine halacarid species of Turkey.

A preliminary checklist of blister beetles from Pakistan and Kashmir is carried out, with the inclusion of 79 species. Stenoria osellai sp. nov. from northern Pakistan, Hycleus pakistanus sp. nov. from Baluchistan, and Meloe (Micromeloe) pintoi sp. nov. from Indian Kashmir are described. Three genera, namely Stenoria, Psalydolytta, and Rhampholyssa, and several species belonging to both subfamilies Nemognathinae and Meloinae, are recorded for the first time from these countries, whereas the genera Cerocoma and Glasunovia, previously cited, are excluded. This species is currently known to occur only in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, China. Nineteen species of ptyctimous mites were found in 20 samples collected in Cameroon: 15 samples from the Southwest region, near the ocean, and 5 samples from the Northwest region, inland. Two new species: Euphthiracarus (Pocsia) inaequatus sp. n. and Steganacarus (Rhacaplacarus) alius sp. n. are described and figured. Six species are new to Cameroon. Further results are presented of the first field course at Maliau Basin, Malaysian Borneo organized by Taxon Expeditions, an organization which enables citizen scientists to be directly involved in taxonomic discoveries. Three new species of the aquatic beetle genus Grouvellinus Champion, 1923, namely G. leonardodicaprioi sp. n., G. andrekuipersi sp. n., and G. quest sp. n. were collected jointly by the citizen scientists and taxonomists during the fieldwork in Maliau Basin. Material was mainly sampled from sandstone bottom rocks of blackwater streams at altitudes between 900 m and 1,000 m using fine-meshed hand-nets. The genus is widely distributed …

A new mayfly species, Sparsorythus sescarorum sp. n. (Tricorythidae) is described from Mindoro Island, Philippines. Nymphs are characterized by the combination of the following characters: compound eyes of approximately equal size in both sexes, shape and setation of legs, presence of rudimentary gills on abdominal segment VII, and some details of mouthparts. Male imagines are characterized by the coloration pattern of wings and details of genitalia. The developmental stages are matched by DNA barcodes.

An extensive survey of small mammals and ectoparasites along an altitudinal transect in the Manu Biodiversity Reserve in Peru found the sigmodontine rodent genus Nephelomys infested by mites of the genus Gigantolaelaps Fonseca, 1939. Two distinct species co-occurred exclusively in the pelage of Nephelomys keaysi, G. inca Fonseca and G. minima n. sp. Nephelomys levipes, which replaces N. keaysi at higher elevations, was infested exclusively with a single new species, G. nebulosa n. sp. In this paper, we formally describe these new mite species, and provide more information on the morphology of G. inca.

The taxonomic status and phylogenetic position of the recently recorded smooth newt (Lissotriton vulgaris) population from the island of Bozcaada (Çanakkale, Turkey) is clarified on the basis of morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses. The L. vulgaris population from Bozcaada presents body proportions and morphological features of subsp. schmidtlerorum, such as small body length, absence of the tail filament, and dorsal crest with pointed free margin. Similarly, phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial DNA sequences (ND4, 16S rRNA) place the Bozcaada population within Clade E of the recent L. vulgaris phylogeny, which consists of L. v. schmidtlerorum populations.

In the present paper color and pattern variations of Hierophis gemonensis, a snake with little morphological variation, are described. For the first time, partially melanistic individuals were observed and described for this species. The identity of one of these snakes was corroborated by genetic means. Taxonomical circumstances and environmental causes of this color and pattern variation are discussed.

Recent concerns about the ecological well-being of bee communities in California and elsewhere have increased the need for monitoring programs and studies that evaluate the impact of habitat loss and alteration on bee diversity and abundance. Acanthurus albimento is described as a new surgeonfish from northeastern Luzon from six specimens collected during extensive fish-market surveys in the Philippines. The new species is characterized by a distinctive white band below the lower jaw; many irregular, wavy, thin, blue lines on the head; a brown-orange pectoral fin with a bluish tinge on the outer membrane of the rays and a dark band on the posterior margin; a narrow rust-orange stripe along the base of the dorsal fin; and a large blackish caudal spine and sheath with the socket broadly edged in black. The authors report on the presence of species of the family Tarsonemidae in association with three bark beetle species (Orthotomicus erosus (Wollaston, 1857), Scolytus scolytus (Fabricius, 1775), and S. multistriatus (Marsham, 1802)) in two provinces in Central and Northern Iran. The following mite species are new for the fauna of Iran: Heterotarsonemus hajekae Smiley and Moser, 1985, H. magowskii Khaustov, 2001, and Tarsonemus crassus (Schaarschmidt, 1959). The genus Heterotarsonemus is newly recorded in Asia. The new record of H. hajekae is the second ever known in the world and H. magowskii is now established as new phoront of the bark …

Short-tailed opossums (genus Monodelphis) comprise the most species-rich genus of New World marsupials, with 25 currently recognized species. Monodelphis comprise small, terrestrial species collectively widespread in South America, which makes the group potentially informative about biogeographic processes that have shaped the continental fauna. The genus exhibits striking variation in several phenotypic characters, notably pelage coloration, behavior, and reproductive strategies. This diversity is unique among Neotropical marsupials, and makes the group particularly interesting to investigate the evolution and the adaptive significance of phenotypic trait variation. A new species of Mesocriconema and a unique assemblage of plant-parasitic nematodes was discovered in a heath bald atop Brushy Mountain in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Mesocriconema ericaceum n. sp., a species with males, superficially resembles M. xenoplax. DNA barcoding with the mitochondrial COI gene provided evidence of the new species as a distinct lineage. SEM revealed significant variability in arrangement of labial submedian lobes, plates, and anterior and posterior annuli. Three other nematodes in the family Criconematidae were characterized from the heath bald. In order to identify the plant parasitic nematodes associated with Berberis vulgaris, 130 soil samples were collected from the rhizosphere of this plant in the South Khorasan Province of Iran during 2012-2014. Among the identified species, four species, Merlinius acuminatus, Geocenamus dobroticus, Paratylenchus vandenbrandei, and Criconemoides morgensis, are new records for the Iranian nematode fauna.

There are twelve Microtus species in Turkey and two of them are endemic to the steppic central Anatolian plateau. In this study, previously collected specimens that were recorded as Microtus irani from southeastern Turkey were reevaluated by karyologically comparing different species distributed throughout southeastern Turkey. The taxonomic status of this species was raised to a new species, Microtus elbeyli sp. Nov., which has dark ochreous dorsal color, agrestis morphotype in M2, and 2n = 46, NF = 50, Nfa = 46 karyotype.
