The perception of key players in the fish farming sector towards the use of insects is important for their acceptance to adopt insects as an alternative protein source to the expensive fish meal. Perception was established through a cross-sectional study of 208 fish farmers and 71 fish feed traders and/or processors conducted in Gulu, Tororo and Masaka districts in Uganda, using descriptive, Chi-square, correlation and factor statistical analysis of the data collected. he current study aims to compare sugar beet leaves (SBLs) ensiled with sugar beet pulp (SBP), sugarcane molasses (SM), or rock candy juice (RCJ) using an in vitro gas production technique. Treatments in the first group included 10% SBP (control 1) and control 1 plus 5% SM or RCJ. In the second group, there were 3 treatments, including 20% SBP (control 2) and control 2 plus 10% SM or RCJ. The silages with no added soluble carbohydrate (SC) sources had significantly higher (P < 0.001) pH, buffer value index, and ammonia nitrogen values than the other treatments. However, there was no significant difference between RCJ and SM in their effect on these variables. Adding both levels of SC sources caused an increase in dry matter digestibility compared to those that only included SBL and SBP (P < 0.001). Maximal and rate of gas production from slowly fermentable fraction (a$_{2}$) were significantly greater when the substrate contained 85%, 10%, and 5% SBL, SBP, and SC sources, respectively. Using dried SBP and SC sources for the preservation of fresh SBL is recommended; however, with higher levels of SC, the silage may be at risk of spoilage, and it must be less exposed to air.

This study aimed to determine the lethal concentration 50% (LC$_{50}$) and behavioral, hematological, biochemical, histopathological, and genetic disorders of fipronil for Rhamdia quelen in acute toxicity tests for 96 h. To determine the LC$_{50}$, 42 juveniles were distributed in groups of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 0.8 mg L$^{-1}$ of fipronil. For other evaluations 36 silver catfish were divided into control, 0.3 mg L$^{-1}$, and 0.4 mg L$^{-1}$ groups. Blood, kidneys, livers, and gills were collected for evaluation. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different curing temperatures (4 °C or 10 °C) and agents (KNO$_{3}$ or NaNO$_{2}$) on microbiological and physicochemical properties of pastırma and diversity of gram-positive, catalase-positive cocci (GCC$^{+}$) and also to investigate some technological properties of the strains. Four different groups of pastırma were produced applying different curing temperatures and agents. This study was carried out to evaluate the biochemical parameters and intestinal microflora in broilers with low doses of Eimeria tenella. Birds from the experimental groups were orally infected with 500 (GI) or 1000 (GII) sporulated oocysts of E. tenella and then examined for weight gain, biochemical indicators, and microbiota on day 9 and 16 after infection. In this study, findings of morphological deformation observed on a blue crab sampled in Köyceğiz Lagoon (Muğla, Turkey) are presented. The deformation is in the left lateral spine. It has been observed that this spine, which normally should have been one, developed as two independent spines. Due to this abnormality observed in the individual, the individual has two carapace widths.

The patient in this case report was a male Golden Retriever dog, approximately 5 years of age, found in woodlands and presenting with an inability to use the right hindlimb. In craniocaudal and mediolateral radiographs taken of the patient, presence of an old comminuted fracture caused by a firearm injury was observed in the right femoral condyle. A custom-made trochlear groove of suitable dimensions for the patient was produced. The patient tip-toed on postoperative day 1 and was seen to be mostly weight-bearing by day 7. A small pupil and poor pupil dilation are well-known risk factors faced by veterinary ophthalmologists during and after cataract surgery. We here describe two cases of phacoemulsification performed using an iris expander (Visitec I-Ring Pupil Expander, Beaver-Visitec International, USA) for treating cataracts in dogs with small pupils. Using this technique, we performed cataract extraction effectively in dogs with insufficiently dilated pupils. This case report provides useful information on the use of an iris expander for phacoemulsification in eyes with a small pupil, which can be applied in veterinary settings.

This research was conducted to study the content and phenotypes of haptoglobin and their correlation to the differential leukocyte count in healthy Red-motley Holstein calves (n = 30). The blood samples from calves were taken through puncture of the jugular vein on days 1, 7, 14, and 28 after birth. Differential leukocyte count was analyzed by manual enumeration. The objective of this study was to investigate whether there is an association between ovarian stimulation and interrupted gamete interaction in the rat fallopian tube in vivo. We evaluated the protein expression of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) via immunohistochemistry and assessed the key histological features of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uteri of the rats following treatment with mild (15 IU) and high (30 IU) doses of gonadotropins compared to an unstimulated control group. The effects of phenylboronic acid (PBA) and boric acid (BA) on the proliferation of canine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were investigated. Treatment of PBMCs from mixed breed dogs with PBA or BA (0.05 µg/mL) alone elicited blastogenic responses of 0.478 ± 0.438 and 0.499 ± 0.366, respectively. We observed an additive effect on proliferation when purebred Kangal PBMCs were cultured in a combination of BA (0.001 µg/mL) and the mitogenic lectin concanavalin A (1 µg/mL). The correlations between selected egg, embryo development, and chick traits were analyzed in three lines of Japanese quail subjected to intrafamily selection for 28th day body weight (group S) and in three lines of random control birds (group K). The significant correlation coefficients between egg weight and most of the traits observed after the first two days of incubation as well as chick weight and shank length were estimated. Specimens of Oreochromis niloticus (One control and 3 experimental groups) were fed diets mixed with different doses of mercury (control group = free of mercury; group 1 = 500 mg/kg; group 2 = 750 mg/kg, and group 3 = 1000 mg/kg) for 60 days in order to study its accumulation and histopathological alterations in the liver, gills, skeletal muscles, and skin. The results obtained revealed that mercury accumulation was significantly (P < 0.05) high in the liver and gills compared to the muscles and skin. Uterine torsion is an uncommon disorder of bitch and is more likely to occur in the pregnant animals. A three-year-old Labrador bitch was presented to the Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital with the history of having delivered two live puppies in the morning with no further signs of parturition. The aim of this study was to compare Kangal shepherd dogs with and without ankyloglossia in terms of various physiological and behavioral changes. A total of 24 dogs were used, 11 of which have had ankyloglossia and 13 of which did not have ankyloglossia. Heart rates, respiratory rates, and body temperatures of the dogs were measured at three different environmental temperatures (18, 23, and 28 °C), resting state, and different exercise durations (5, 10, and 15 min). This study was conducted to detect the prevalence and presence of bovine herpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1) using immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF) and antigen enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in the lung samples of cattle (n = 1023). In addition, three methods were compared using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and chi-square test ($χ^{2}$ test), and their usability were evaluated in laboratory conditions. Macroscopically, pneumonia was seen in 120 of the lung tissue samples (11.73%). The present study evaluated the effect of housing system on morphometric and carcass traits of 3 chicken genotypes. In total, 180 cockerels and 180 pullets of 6 weeks old were studied. Leptin is a hormone-like protein consisting of 167 amino acids. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of different leptin concentrations on in vitro and in vivo embryo development rates. In vitro development rates were investigated by embryo culture studies, and in vivo implantation rates and the quality of embryos were assessed by embryo transfers to the recipient mice. This study aims to evaluate Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) genetic diversity through the complete sequencing of the pvpA gene among six MG isolates present in industrial poultry from 2015 to 2016. The genetic comparison of these six isolates showed similarities of over 94% and 92% in terms of nucleotide and amino acid sequences, respectively. The size of the PvpA protein in the studied isolates included three different sizes with 361, 364, and 366 amino acids. A new attempt was undertaken to check the reproductive capabilities of male hybrids bred from European bison (Bison bonasus) and domestic cattle (Bos taurus). The analysis concerned two hybrids aged 1.5?2.5 years (the latter being sampled twice at 6-month intervals), and additionally one 1.5-year-old backcross hybrid. Examination of testicular tissue revealed halting of spermatogenesis, which was hardly ever able to proceed further than meiosis I. Spermatogenesis was arrested at the stage of spermatogonia and primary spermatocytes. Spermatozoa were found only in the case of one hybrid and these were mostly malformed. This study was conducted to determine the effects of subanesthetic doses of ketamine given prior to premedication on the quality of anesthesia, recovery, and postoperative pain in horses. Eighteen horses were randomly recruited into three equal groups, S, LK, and HK, wherein saline, ketamine at 0.2 mg/kg body weight (bwt), and ketamine at 0.4 mg/kg bwt were given, respectively, i.v. for 30 min as a continuous rate infusion (CRI).
