Jane Claire Dirks-Edmunds Documents
Originally a radio broadcast, this document explores the fraternal nature of bird watching. It was included in the papers of Dr. James A. Macnab, Dr. Jane Claire Dirks-Edmunds's mentor at Linfield College. The article mentions various books by bird-watching authorities and naturalists from around the Pacific Northwest.
Dirks-Edmunds, a 1937 graduate of Linfield, graduated from the University of Illinois in 1941; she returned to teach in the Biology department at Linfield from 1941-1974.

Digitized Primary Sources
Regional bird journal compiled by Bridgewater College students, faculty and alumni, 1918, 1947 - 1950. Handwritten by several compilers in a composition book.
The first part of the book is an "Index of Birds identified in the spring of 1918. Course under Dr. Scott." The list was compiled by Charles S. Driver, BC Class of 1916. Field notes are included. Driver was likely taking this class in graduate work, probably at Indiana University.
The second section of the book is a list, "Birds observed in the vicinity of Bridgewater, Va. 1947 -48- 49. " Contributors are listed. They are mostly …

A Plea For The Protection Of Our Birds, Lawrence Bruner
A Plea For The Protection Of Our Birds, Lawrence Bruner
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
The fact that insect depredations are increasing in extent each succeeding year makes it plain to us that something must be done to prevent it, and that quickly. We have found to our sorrow that, although we are continually making increased efforts to destroy these pests, our efforts avail but little and the destruction of our crops goes on. What, then, is to be done? How can we be released from this ever-increasing struggle for existence? The answer is plain. Heed the advice of the Naturalist who has made a study of the life-histories of the various other living creatures …

Papers in Ornithology
In 1896, Prof. Bruner published his list entitled "Some Notes on Nebraska Birds." As a working basis for the study of the ornithology of the state it has proven invaluable and it has also been greatly in demand by people not ornithologists, who desired to "know something about our birds." That edition was exhausted some time ago and its author has been frequently urged to publish another. However, the organization of the Nebraska Ornithologists' Union and the development of ornithology in the University has led to such a rapid increase in our knowledge in the past five years that it …

Papers in Ornithology
For upwards of twenty-five years the writer has taken an interest in our birds and made notes relative to their abundance, migrations, nesting, food-habits, etc., simply for personal gratification.
About two years ago, during a conversation in which the relation of birds to horticulture incidentally arose, Professor F. W. Taylor suggested the advisability of devoting a portion of a succeeding annual report to our Nebraska birds. With this object in view both the professor and the writer broached the matter to other members of the Society. Several at once not only became interested in the matter, but suggested its early …
