La investigacion en acuacultura en Honduras se ha desarrollado desde 1983 en una manera colaborativa por medio del Centro Internacional de Acuacultura y Medio Ambientes Acuaticos, Universidad de Auburn, y la Direccion General de Pesca y Acuacultura, Secretaria de Agricultura y Ganaderia, Republica de Honduras. Development Of Semi-Intensive Aquaculture Technologies In Honduras: Summary Of Freshwater Aquacultural Research Conducted From 1983-1992, Bartholomew Green, David Teichert-Coddington, Terrill Hanson

Aquacultural research has been conducted collaboratively in Honduras since 1983 by the International Center for Aquaculture and Aquatic Environments, Auburn University, and the Direccion General de Pesca y Acuicultura, Secretaria de Recursos Naturales. This research was carried out at the El Carao National Fish Culture Research Center, Comayagua, Honduras, under the auspices of the USAID-financed Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program (PD/A CRSP). The goal of the PD/A CRSP is to increase tilapia yields by optimizing resource use in systems based predominantly on natural pond productivity.

This Aquacultural Production Manual from the International Center for Aquaculture at Auburn University is oriented towards field application rather than rigorous scientific evaluation of the described techniques. The management practices have been field tested and proven feasible at the described scale of production.

The intended readers are intermediate to upper level technicians with experience in related aquacultural activities. As such, a basic understanding of the principles of aquatic production and of the life history and environmental requirements of tilapia is presumed.
