Optimization Of Preparation Of Conjugated Linoleic Acid By Alkali Isomerization Of Peanut Oil, Shen Qiu-Yun, Peng Qing-Jing

Objective: To obtain a promising production technique of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Methods: The alkali isomerization was used to prepare CLA from peanut oil. The relative content of linoleic acid in peanut oil was determined, and the effects of reaction time, reaction temperature, ratio of alcohol to oil and KOH dosage on the conversion of CLA were investigated. The preparation conditions were optimized by Box-Behnken test. Results: The peanut oil was rich in linoleic acid with a relative content of 27.85%. Isolation, Purification And Identification Of Ace Inhibitory Peptide From Paramisgurnus Dabryanus Protein, Dong Jing-Qi, He Ze-He, Tian Gui-Fang, Shao Juan-Juan, Wu Xiao-He

Objective: This study aimed to develop ACE inhibitory peptide of Paramisgurnus dabryanus.Methods: Ultrafiltration, Sephadex G-15 and RP-HPLC were used to isolate and purify ACE inhibitory peptides from the proteolysis products of P.dabryanus,and their structures were analyzed by HPLC-MS/MS. The inhibitory mode of purified ACE inhibitory peptide was analyzed by inhibition kinetics. Results: The amino acid sequence of ACE inhibitory peptide was Glu-Gly-HIS, the relative molecular weight was 341.2 Da, the IC 50 value was (17.89±3.28)μg/mL, and the purification ratio was 27.47. Conclusion: The inhibitory peptide of P. dabryanus is a competitive ACE inhibitory peptide.

In order to understand the awareness of urban adolescents on healthy diet, nutrition knowledge, traditional food culture, and food safety, a food education survey was carried out in the Middle School Affiliated to the National University of Defense Technology of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Based on 1 088 middle and high school students, the questionnaire was designed from four dimensions: food nutrition cognition, correct eating habit cultivation and safety knowledge, traditional diet and etiquette inheritance, food education knowledge cognition and attitude. Objective: This study aimed to establish a rapid screening method for 57 drugs illegally added to medicinal and edible food. Methods: Extracted samples were purified by QuEhERS pretreatment technology, and 57 kinds of illegal addition of drugs were separated by Waters BEH C18 column. Acetonitrile-water was used as a mobile phase for gradient elution. Mass spectrometry electrospray and multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) were used for detection and analysis. The endophytic microbiome may influence the ecological performance of plants, including forest trees. Various abiotic and biotic factors may shape the endophyte communities directly but also indirectly, by modifying the quality of host plants as a substrate. We hypothesized that potentially antifungal or fungistatic condensed tannins (CTs) would determine the quality of aspen (Populus tremula) leaves as a substrate for endophytic fungi. When applying pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals, the applicator should know the amount of chemical applied to the treated area. Calibration is a method an applicator can use to measure and set the application rate. If sprayers are not properly calibrated, it can result in over or under application of chemicals, causing damage, reduced pest control, and potential safety concerns. Making the effort to properly mix chemicals and calibrate sprayers can save money and increase treatment effectiveness. The green revolution was based on genetic modification of the gibberellin (GA) hormone system with “dwarfing” gene mutations that reduces GA signals, conferring shorter stature, thus enabling plant adaptation to modern farming conditions. Strong GA-related mutants with shorter stature often have reduced coleoptile length, discounting yield gain due to their unsatisfactory seedling emergence under drought conditions. Here we present gibberellin (GA) 3-oxidase1 (GA3ox1) as an alternative semi-dwarfing gene in barley that combines an optimal reduction in plant height without restricting coleoptile and seedling growth. Accurate prediction of the phenotypic outcomes produced by different combinations of genotypes, environments, and management interventions remains a key goal in biology with direct applications to agriculture, research, and conservation. The past decades have seen an expansion of new methods applied toward this goal. Here we predict maize yield using deep neural networks, compare the efficacy of 2 model development methods, and contextualize model performance using conventional linear and machine learning models. Seed treatment with fungicides is an effective method to control this disease. However, using fungicides in organic and low-income fields is forbidden, and planting resistant cultivars are preferred. Colored sweet bell-shaped and tapered peppers are a staple at the farmers' market. Many small and medium-sized farming operations in Indiana grow this summer crop. High tunnels allow growers to protect their crops and extend their growing season. Sweet peppers, in particular, benefit from the unique growing environment created by the high tunnel. Planting of peppers can start at least 2-4 weeks earlier in the spring, and production can continue into the fall until the first hard freeze. Understanding Current Labor Shortage And Mechanization In New Jersey Nursery Crop Operations, Hemant Gohil, Timothy Waller, Raul Cabrera

We conducted a survey of New Jersey’s nursery industry to understand the current levels of labor shortage, how this has affected specific tasks related to the production capacity of the industry, and the actual level of mechanization. Survey results identified priority areas needing mechanization. There is a need for greater mechanization in almost all areas of nursery production to reduce the reliance on labor and or improve the efficiency of labor. Other Implications related to Extension programming on nursery mechanization are also discussed.

Based on results collected through a comprehensive needs assessment of farmers market (FM) vendors in Pennsylvania, the purpose of this study was to develop and pilot-test a customized, food safety training program for FM vendors. A customized 3-hour, in-person, training program was developed and pilot tested. Connecting Diverse Communities Through A 4-H Urban-Rural Experience, Laurie Murrah-Hanson, Brittani Lee, Pamela Bloch

Misconceptions regarding agricultural careers are exacerbated by increasing urbanization and are one of many differences in perspective between urban and rural communities. The One Georgia 4-H Urban-Rural Experience addresses this divide through a statewide youth exchange focusing on the agricultural sector. The program includes a multifaceted look at agricultural careers through visits to urban and rural communities. Focus group evaluations revealed the impact on youth through exposure to new careers, increased understanding of the diversity of agriculture, awareness of the interconnected nature of urban and rural communities, and a sense of belonging to a diverse group of youth.
