The Nature Of Resistance In Alfalfa To Wilt (Aplanobacter Insidiosum L. Mc.), George L. Peltier, F. R. Schroeder
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
Alfalfa wilt was first discovered in 1924 in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. The causal organism, Aplanobacter insidiosum, was later described by McCulloch. Since that time wilt has been reported from most of the alfalfa-growing sections of the United States and in some states it has been responsible for a rapid decrease in the acreage of alfalfa. During the past three years a number of investigators have found that certain alfalfas are somewhat resistant to wilt, whereas others are very susceptible. At the Nebraska station the results to date indicate that all common and most variegated alfalfas are very …

Tuber Development In Triumph Potatoes As Influenced By Time Of Planting On Dry Land In Northwestern Nebraska, H. O. Werner
Tuber Development In Triumph Potatoes As Influenced By Time Of Planting On Dry Land In Northwestern Nebraska, H. O. Werner
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
Triumph potatoes were planted on four different dates during six years in order to determine the best planting date on dry land in northwestern Nebraska, where this variety is grown primarily for seed. Features considered in comparing the merits of these planting dates were: stand of plants; vine growth; disease prevalence; time of plant maturity; number, size, and shape of tubers; cracking at harvest time; prevalence and severity of common scab; total yields and yields of various grades of potatoes from various harvesting dates; weight loss in storage; and duration of the dormant period. The experimental aspects dealing with the …

Studies Of Prairie Hay In North Central Nebraska, F. D. Keim, A. L. Frolik, G. W. Beadle
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
During five years, 1924-1928, Nebraska ranked first among the states in the production of prairie hay. Approximately 2,500,000 tons were grown annually during this period. In acreage utilized, wild hay ranked third among the field crops of Nebraska. As a forage crop in the state, prairie hay ranked first in acreage, but second to alfalfa in production. The purpose of this bulletin is to report studies made of the botanical structure and yields of the native hay meadows during a period of four years, 1926-1929, in the most prominent prairie hay producing section of the state. Four counties in this …

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
The University Fruit Farm may be considered as a substation or detached portion of the Nebraska Experiment Station. It was established to assist in answering questions pertaining to fruit production, and only experiments of this sort are carried on. Supervision of this property rests with the Department of Horticulture of the Nebraska College of Agriculture. This circular has been prepared with the view of furnishing visitors to the farm with a brief outline of the experimental projects. Further information is available from either the local foreman or from the Department. Visitors are always welcome and helpful suggestions are solicited.
The Effect Of Maturity And The Ethylene Chlorhydrin Seed Treatment On The Dormancy Of Triumph Potatoes, H. O. Werner
The Effect Of Maturity And The Ethylene Chlorhydrin Seed Treatment On The Dormancy Of Triumph Potatoes, H. O. Werner
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
Western Nebraska dry-land Triumph potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) vary in maturity at the time of harvest, from some that are very immature to others with vines which are entirely ripe. Variations in maturity may be due to such factors as early frost, drouth, destruction of vines by hail or early blight, time of planting, and strain type (whether early or late maturing). The question of seed maturity and its influence upon duration of the dormant period is of considerable commercial importance, since these potatoes are annually being planted in south Texas as early as December 26 and in southern …

Infection Experiments With Spindle Tuber And Unmottled Curly Dwarf Of The Potato, R. W. Goss
Infection Experiments With Spindle Tuber And Unmottled Curly Dwarf Of The Potato, R. W. Goss
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
It is probable that more than one insect species are capable of spreading some of the potato virus diseases. This conclusion was also indicated by repeated observations in the dry-land section of western Nebraska. While aphids are abundant and are probably the chief vectors of potato virus diseases in the more humid sections of the country, they are usually scarce in the western upland plains area and are not present in large enough numbers to account for the rapid spread of spindle tuber and unmottled curly dwarf which sometimes occurs. It was therefore considered advisable to determine the common potato …

The Effect Of A Varying Moisture Supply At Different Periods Of Growth On The Development, Yield And Quality Of Flax, William K. Soule
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the flaxseed producing section of the United States consisting of the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota and Montana, periods of drought frequently occur during some part of the growing season. The time of occurrence varies from early spring to fall. Such periods have a profound effect on the normal growth of the plant.
