Citrus is one of the most important and widely cultivated fruit crops globally. However, its productivity is increasingly threatened by various diseases, with bacterial infections being particularly the most destructive. Among these, citrus canker, caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Xac), poses a significant challenge, requiring effective management strategies. Traditional approaches have shown limited success, but nanotechnology has emerged as a promising alternative for disease control. A New Longidoridae Member, Xiphinema Brevicolle, From Citrus Orchards In Türkiye, Adem Özarslandan, Ayşenur Aslan, Lerzan Öztürk

Individuals of the genus Xiphinema were recovered from soil samples collected during citrus surveys in south-eastern Türkiye. Morphological examination using light microscopy identified the species as X. brevicolle. The female individuals measured 2000–2050 μm in length, and displayed a slightly flattened lip region, an amphidelphic reproductive system with two well-developed branches, and a short conoid tail ending in a rounded tip. These morphometric and morphological features were consistent with those of previously described X. brevicolle specimens. Optimizing Cultivated Land Productivity Through Integrated Fertilization Strategies And Uav-Assisted Management, Kejun Wang

This study investigates the impact of long-term fertilization modes on crop health and productivity using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted monitoring and a Q-learning-based approach for optimized fertilization strategies. An approximate state-matching Q-learning algorithm was developed to improve the efficiency of agricultural UAVs in fertilization tasks. The spatiotemporal patterns of cultivated land productivity under different fertilization regimes were analyzed in a long-term experiment. An evaluation system for cultivated land health productivity was established. The results indicated that the Q-learning algorithm enabled UAVs to achieve efficient task completion. QLASM outperformed traditional methods on all metrics. QLASM achieved a 92% task completion rate …

This review explored the pathogenic microbes associated with common edible insects. With rising human populations and fluctuating food supplies, edible insects offer a rich source of protein, vitamins, and minerals and are culturally accepted in many regions. Despite their nutritional benefits, knowledge on microbial hazards associated with edible insects is fragmented. The review focuses on commonly consumed species, including Tenebrio molitor, Zophobas morio, Acheta domesticus, Gryllus bimaculatus, Locusta migratoria, Ruspolia differens, Bombix mori, Bunaea alcinoe, and Oryctes monoceros. This study investigates the optimal mixing ratios of common vetch (Vicia sativa L., CV) and oats (Avena sativa L., O) for enhanced forage yield and quality in the ecological conditions of Erzurum Province. The research was conducted over two growing seasons with three replications in a randomized complete block design (RCBD). Sugar bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a legume of notable nutritional and functional value, and its genotypes have substantial variation in bioactive compounds, antioxidant activity, mineral composition, and enzyme inhibition properties. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the biochemical and functional diversity of 10 sugar bean genotypes using data mining algorithms to identify superior candidates for functional food and nutraceutical development. Designing an undergraduate research experience in which all team members can meaningfully contribute and experience growth can be challenging, especially for virtual teams working across institutions. For two years, the authors worked remotely as a team that included several undergraduate researchers in a highly involved research project. Cypermethrin is an insecticide widely used by farmers in Uganda to control pests and diseases. The widespread use leads to biomagnification, affecting humans and the ecosystem. This study examined the short-term effects of cypermethrin on soil macronutrients (N, P, K), meso-nutrients (Ca, Mg), and microbial communities (bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes) in tropical Ugandan soils. Background/aim: The present study investigates the role of Shenfu injection in the treatment of yang-deficient chronic heart failure (CHF). Materials and methods: Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were modeled for yang-deficient CHF by abdominal aortic coarctation. Echocardiography was performed to detect changes in cardiac function, and serum N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide proteins (NT-proBNP), cardiac troponin I (cTnI), and ferroptosis-related factors were measured using ELISA kits. Background/aim: Oxidative stress is a major contributor to melanocyte dysfunction and hair graying by impairing key signaling pathways. Eucommia ulmoides bark extract (EUE), rich in antioxidant phytochemicals, has shown potential in combating oxidative damage. This study investigated the protective and promelanogenic effects of EUE under hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂)-induced oxidative stress, with a focus on the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Materials and methods: An oxidative stress model was established using B16 cells and a C57BL/6 mouse hair follicle model. Background/aim: Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor (FGFR) gene fusions are recognized as pivotal oncogenic drivers, contributing to cancer initiation and progression across diverse malignancies. These fusions often represent significant therapeutic targets, particularly in challenging malignancies like cholangiocarcinoma. This study aimed to characterize the novel FGFR2::SHTN1 fusion, identify it as a de novo chimeric protein, and elucidate its precise oncogenic mechanism. Background/aim: This study aimed to investigate the phenotypic resistance and distribution of efflux pump-associated antimicrobial resistance genes in Staphylococcus spp. isolated from dairy and meat samples. Antimicrobial resistance in foodborne bacteria increases with antibiotic exposure and biocides, particularly through efflux mechanisms. Growing evidence suggests that psychiatric disorders are characterized by a prolonged inflammatory state, which may influence the efficacy of compounds targeting serotonin. Serotonin is a key signaling molecule in neuroplasticity of the adult hippocampus and involved in antidepressant action. Recent in vitro studies indicate the neurotransmitter may also facilitate the response to inflammation and potentially modulate microglial function towards neuroprotection. A new species of functionally dioecious bush tomato from the “Solanum dioicum + S. echinatum group” of Solanum subgenus Leptostemonum is described. Solanum nectarifolium Martine & Brennan, sp. nov., is a member of the taxonomically challenging Solanum dioicum W.Fitzg. species complex in Australia and differs from other species in the group by the presence of prominent and conspicuous extrafloral nectaries on the abaxial leaf surfaces, a tinge of purple on the new growth and young fruiting calyces, and curved prickles on young stems. The failure caused by punching shear is considered very dangerous because it happens suddenly. So, many researches have presented various methods to enhance the punching shear capacity by adding shear reinforcement like, vertical shear studs, stirrups or other means. Recent evidence highlights the significance of a new type of tumour suppressors, which are not frequently mutated but inhibited by metabolic cues in cancers. Here, we identify BATF2 as a tumour suppressor whose expression is epigenetically silenced by glutamine in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinomas (HNSCC). BATF2 correlates with type-I interferon and Th1 signatures in human HNSCC, with correlation coefficients even stronger than those of the positive control, STING. The phosphorylation of BATF2 at serine 227 promotes the oligomerization of STING. BATF2 deficiency or high glutamine levels result in higher oxygen consumption rates and metabolic profiles unfavorable for …

Objectives: Determine the utility of low-flip angle "black bone" magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for cortical mandibular bone assessment compared to computed tomography (CT).

Methods: Quantification of cortical mandibular bone width was performed per Hamada et al. at 15 cross-sectional interdentium locations on pretreatment black bone MRI and CT for 15 oropharyngeal cancer patients, with interobserver analyses on a subset of three patients by 11 observers. CT and MRI measurements were compared using Bland-Altman analysis, Lin's concordance, and Deming regression; interobserver variability was assessed with absolute variance and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the common liver cancer, exhibits higher incidence in males. Here, we report that mice lacking bile acid (BA) regulators, Farnesoid X Receptor (FXR also termed NR1H4) and Small Heterodimer Partner (SHP also termed NR0B2), recapitulate the sex difference in liver cancer risk. Since few therapeutic options are available, we focused on understanding the intrinsic protection afforded to female livers. Transcriptomic analysis in control and NR1H4 and NR0B2 double knockout livers identified female-specific changes in metabolism, including amino acids, lipids, and steroids. Objective: Auricular point acupressure (APA) has shown promise for pain relief, but its biological mechanisms remain unclear. This study examined the effects of APA on inflammatory cytokines and explored the relationships between changes in inflammatory markers and clinical outcomes in older adults with chronic low back pain (cLBP).

Fresh produce is highly perishable, necessitating various postharvest treatments to minimize quality loss, extend shelf-life, and facilitate international trade. This study investigated the potential of a single low-dose gamma irradiation treatment as an alternative to commercially used chemical treatments for protecting ‘Granny Smith’ apples against insect pests and postharvest disorders. ‘Granny Smith’ apples harvested in 2019 and 2020 were treated with gamma irradiation at doses of 240 or 860 Gray (Gy) or with commercial chemical applications of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), diphenylamine (DPA), or methyl bromide (MeBr). Particle image velocimetry (PIV) flow measurements are common practice in laboratory settings in a wide variety of fields involving fluid dynamics, including biology, physics, engineering, and medicine. Dynamic fluid pressure is a notoriously difficult property to measure non-intrusively, yet its variation is a driving flow force and critical to model correctly. In this work, three methods are proposed to identify parameters of PI controllers used for wind energy conversion systems based on DFIG. Mathematical model of generator and grid side system is depicted. Three tuning methods; bode-plot, pole-placement, and MATLAB tuner are used for grid side and rotor side converter controllers’ design. Wind turbine system with PI controller parameters obtained using the mentioned method is investigated via MATLAB/SIMULINK under three different scenarios.
