Oil Provinces Of Colombia And Venezuela, William R. Ransone
Oil Provinces Of Colombia And Venezuela, William R. Ransone
Field and Laboratory
Colombia and Venezuela are by far the most important oil producing countries of South America. In 1938, Venezuela ranked third among the oil producing countries of the world, with a yield of 190,000,000 barrels. Only the United States (1,265,000,000 barrels), and Russia (210,000,000 barrels) outrank that country. Colombia, with 22,000,000 barrels was ninth among the petroleum producing countries of the world.

Drainage Controls In The Austin Chalk Cuesta Area Of Dallas, Texas, E. F. Blakemore Jr.
Field and Laboratory
The Austin chalk cuesta is a prominent topographic feature which trends northeast across central Texas from Austin through Waco and Dallas. The escarpment is formed through differential erosion of beds at the contact between the Austin chalk and Eagle Ford: shale, the overlying chalk forming the cuesta. The area described in this paper is situated 6 miles west of Dallas, south of the Trinity River Cross Valley.
Bionomics Of The Aquatic And Semi-Aquatic Hemiptera Of Dallas County, Texas, Dick D. Millspaugh
Bionomics Of The Aquatic And Semi-Aquatic Hemiptera Of Dallas County, Texas, Dick D. Millspaugh
Field and Laboratory
Although (as Professor S. W. Geiser has shown in his publications on scientific study and exploration in Early Texas) a number of naturalists and entomological collectors have worked in Texas, and some of them (like Jacob Boll, Gideon Lincecum, J. D. Mitchell, A. C. V. Schott, G. W. Belfrage, E. A. Schwarz and F. A. Schaupp) have made notable contributions toward our first knowledge of the insect fauna of Texas, either by collection of specimens sent to monographers and specialists, or by publication, still, on several groups our information is meager. Among these groups are the aquatic and semi-aquatic Hemiptera.

The Meteorite:A Lecture To Students Of Elementary Geology, John D. Boon
The Meteorite:A Lecture To Students Of Elementary Geology, John D. Boon
Field and Laboratory
I have at hand a chunk of iron that was found on the rim of Meteor Crater in Arizona. Whence came this mass of metal that is unlike terrestrial rocks, and what is the story it tells?
Origin Of The Menard "Crater", Emmett Blakemore
Origin Of The Menard "Crater", Emmett Blakemore
Field and Laboratory
On August 30, 1938, the foreman of the Wilkerson Ranch twelve miles southwest of Menard, Texas, reported that a meteorite fell on the ranch and created a large crater. The story, widely publicized by newspapers, caused the writer, accompanied by Professor J. D. Boon of Southern Methodist University, to investigate this phenomenon.
The Hesperiidae Of Dallas County, Texas, Avery Freeman
The Hesperiidae Of Dallas County, Texas, Avery Freeman
Field and Laboratory
Little is known concerning the Hesperiidae of the Southwest. In Texas, various early naturalists made extensive collections of insects, but none specialized on Lepidoptera.
A Century Of Scientific Exploration In Texas, Part Ib: 1820-1880, S. W. Geiser
A Century Of Scientific Exploration In Texas, Part Ib: 1820-1880, S. W. Geiser
Field and Laboratory
In the fourth volume of this journal, I published a list, with short biographical notices, of naturalists and men of science who worked in Texas from 1820 to 1880. In that paper I promised a second contribution, to deal with naturalist-collectors and students in Texas during the years 1881-1920, thus rounding out a century of scientific study and exploration in the State.
An Annotated List Of Snails From Texas And Northern Mexico Collected By C. D. Orchard, E. P. Cheatum
An Annotated List Of Snails From Texas And Northern Mexico Collected By C. D. Orchard, E. P. Cheatum
Field and Laboratory
A collection of land and fresh-water shells, principally from central, southern and southwestern Texas counties, with a few lots from Mexico, has been sent to me by Mr. C. D. Orchard, of San Antonio. Each lot was accompanied by ecological data; and since there were many intergrading forms, the following annotated list may be interesting and useful to field zoologists and systematists.
Geographic Factors In The Development Of The Fredericksburg Area, Carol Fritz
Geographic Factors In The Development Of The Fredericksburg Area, Carol Fritz
Field and Laboratory
As a result of economic stress in Central Europe following the Napoleonic Wars and the industrialization of the Rhine region, the Mainzer Verein-a society of nobles-was organized in Germany in 1844 to direct and protect German emigration. After considering several regions as possible locations for its future colonies, the Society ultimately decided upon an unoccupied section of central Texas. This decision resulted from a favorable report by the Company's agent, Prince Victor von Leiningen, despite the fact that another agent, Count von Boos-Waldeck, advised against settling the Texas area because of the expense of transportation and lack of protection from …
