Some Anatomical Studies On The Kidney Of Goat (Capra Hircus) With Special Reference To Angioarchitecture, Ultrasonography And Doppler, Amr Elkarmoty, Samer Daghash, Elshymaa Abdelnaby

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present work was carried out on twenty-five goats to study the anatomy and sonar as well as Doppler vascular perfusion of kidney in the goat. The ultrasonographic scanning of goat's kidney appeared its cortex oriented as a homogenous hypoechoic area while the medullary pyramids are presented as hypoechoic-anechoic areas deeper than the cortex. The arterial supply of the kidneys of the goat was supplied by the right and the left renal arteries. The renal artery gives accessory renal artery then passing for dividing into the dorsal and the ventral renal branches. Both branches detache the caudal dorsal, caudal dorsal …

For the first experiment, ewes (n = 50) received 50 mg enrofloxacin (TRT) to sponge prior to insertion or received no treatment to sponge (CON) during nonbreeding season. For the second experiment, ewes (n = 56) were randomly assigned to one of the four groups (TRT-E; TRT-G; CON-E; CON-G) according to the presence …

Glucocorticoids (GCs) play a critical function in neonatal lung growth and maturation though the long-term dose-dependent effects of GCs on lungs are still ambiguous. The purpose of the present study is to explore the morphologic and morphometric changes in broiler lungs in reaction to dietary GC. Day-old chicks (DOCs) were purchased and divided into four groups at random i.e. one control group (C) and three experimental groups (E1, E2, and E3). Commercial broiler feed was provided to both the control and experimental groups where the feed of the experimental groups contained GC, dexamethasone (DEX) at the rate of 3, 5, …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Human being has strong and historic connections with plants to fulfill food, feed, and shelter. Moreover, human uses plants as medicine for the treatment of various diseases. Plants are chemical factories for the biosynthesis of the huge number of secondary metabolites (SMs) that are directly used as a medicine or indirectly used in the development of commercial pharmaceutical drugs. Their improvement through classical breeding remains a difficult struggle for plant breeders. Hence, rapidly advancing research on the plant omics era has accelerated our understanding of the complex structure of SMs synthesis in medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs). In addition, sequencing …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Our study assessed how physiological traits and the growth of seedlings of Pinus densiflora and Larix kaempferi, representative coniferous species of Korea, are affected by warming and precipitation manipulation. A warming and precipitation manipulation experiment was conducted with 1- and 2-year-old seedlings using infrared heaters, transparent panels, and an irrigation system. Plant physiological activities were monitored using a portable photosynthesis measurement system, and seedling growth was investigated by measuring the dry weight of harvested biomass. P. densiflora, an isohydric species, showed an overall decrease in physiological activities under the warming treatment in the first (germination) year. In particular, stomatal conductance …

Identification Of Snp Markers Linked To Rf Locus In Carrot Using Gbs, Sevi̇n Teoman Duran, Ahmet İpek

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Commercial carrot production is based on the use of hybrid seed varieties worldwide. Cytoplasmic genetic male sterility (CGMS) mechanism has been widely used as the main method for hybrid carrot seed production. There is a significant demand for a rapid method for identification of fertility restorer gene (Rf) carrying individual plants in a carrot breeding population. The objective of this research was to identify SNP markers linked to Rf locus and develop a genetic map of Rf gene in carrot. For this purpose, a carrot F2 population segregating for male sterility was produced and segregating 10,425 SNP markers were discovered …

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The effects of an aminoglycoside antibiotic, streptomycin, on survival rate, development time, and adult longevity of Drosophila melanogaster (Diptera: Drosophilidae) were examined by adding on the artificial diet at different concentrations in laboratory condition. The effect of streptomycin on malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl (PCO) contents, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) activities in all developmental stages of D. melanogaster was also investigated. First-instar larvae were reared into diets with 600 mg/L, 1200 mg/L, and 1800 mg/L of streptomycin concentrations and were fed until the adult emergence. The highest concentration of streptomycin significantly reduced the survival rates of all development …

Significant differences between the sexes were recorded in tail length, length of longest primary feather, and chest circumference. . No significant difference was recorded in haematological parameters between the sexes. Gut analysis revealed that common snipe feed mostly on Chironomidae and Ceratopogonidae larvae and male and female snipes have the same food preference.

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Anurans are the most suitable vertebrate group to see the development and also evolution in the skull, compared to other terrestrial vertebrates as they show highly derived morphology. For this reason, the cranium of anurans has been widely used for analyzing e.g., development and integration, evolutionary history, phylogenetic relationships, sexual dimorphism; and for taxon determination. We applied geometric morphometric techniques and then multivariate statistical analyses to see the skull size and shape variations in closely related Bufo species (B. bufo and B. verrucosissimus) inhabiting Turkey. Females have larger skull than males for both species. Ventral skull size of males differed …

Review On Antimicrobial Peptides From Malaysian Amphibian Resources: Status, Researchapproaches And Ways Forward, Dasi Ong, Shahriza Shahrudin, Mohd Nazri Ismail

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant threat to human health globally. Diseases caused by AMR are getting more challenging to cure due to the increasing rate of resistance of microbial pathogens. Drugs formulated with antimicrobial peptide (AMP) can be applied to treat these diseases. AMPs are found naturally within organisms, especially amphibians, and is related to the high adaptability of defence mechanisms against various pathogens and predators in the environment. This review focuses on the current status of research works and the different approaches applied to stimulate and collect amphibian secretions, extract and identify peptides, and conduct antimicrobial assays. The …

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This study evaluates the Black Sea anchovy population infected by parasitic Ascaridoid Nematode larva in the Southern Black Sea. It assesses the larva?s effect on fish body condition, energy stored in the body, and anchovy growth. For this, anchovies sampled on July 10-31, 2018, from 30 different stations were examined, and 11.8% of the 825 anchovies were found infected. The observed infection rate was higher on the western side of the study area, suggesting that this rate may be used as a biomarker for the western stock. Age and size of the anchovies play a significant role in the prevalence. …

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The common vole Microtus arvalis (Pallas, 1778) is the most widespread Microtus species. It has two forms - the European arvalis form (2n: 46, NF: 84) and the Asian obscurus form (2n: 46, NF: 72). The present study aimed to clarify the taxonomic status of M. arvalis populations distributed in Eastern Turkey, Europe and Asia by analysing two mitochondrial (CYTB and COX1) and one nuclear (IRBP) markers.
